Maxfield Parrish: A collection of 55 paintings (HD)

Maxfield Parrish: A collection of 55 paintings (HD) Description: "During the Golden Age of Illustration, Maxfield Parrish's "beautiful settings and charming figures" enchanted the American public. His work includes immense murals in office buildings and hotels, magazine covers, and advertisements as well as his book illustrations. Many of his illustrations to children's books, still popular today, are the result of his struggle to make a living as an artist in his early years around the turn of the 20th century. He was born Frederick Parrish in 1870 in Philadelphia, but he took the name Maxfield after his Quaker grandmother. His father, Stephen, was also an artist and Parrish's greatest influence. He originally studied architecture, an interest that is evident in his paintings. He married his wife Lydia 1895. Daybreak, his arguably most famous picture, was created for the art print market. It is still popular to this day. In 1900, Parrish contracted tuberculosis, and then suffered a nervous breakdown. Around that time, he switched from illustrations to oil painting. His oil paintings became very popular, with their brilliant colors and magical luminosity, until well into the 1940s. To achieve these magical effects, he would apply numerous layers of thin, transparent oil, alternating with varnish over stretched paper, a painstaking process that achieved both high luminosity and extraordinary detail. The tuberculosis hung on and Parrish went to Arizona to convalesce in the dry heat there. While in Arizona, he was commissioned to do a series of landscapes. He began painting and traveling on commission and his career took off. Parrish worked at his home in Cornish, New Hampshire, called The Oaks. The Oaks was a popular destination for guests during the summers but in the frozen New Hampshire winters, Parrish dedicated himself to his painting. In 1905, Parrish's met Susan Lewin, a 16-year old girl hired as a nanny for his son Dillwyn. Her image appears often in paintings from this time through the 1920s. Over time, Susan became Parrish's assistant, model for his paintings, and eventually his lover. His wife, Lydia, and Maxfield grew increasingly estranged and she left him in 1911. Susan stayed with Maxfield for another 50 years. From the 1930s until 1960, when he stopped painting, Maxfield Parrish refocused his attention on the world around him, producing a series of calendar landscapes. Yet even these retain the magical, window-to-the-otherworld quality that permeates all of his work. Parrish died at 95 in 1966, at a time when his work was enjoying a renaissance of interest." Johannes Vermeer: A collection of 41 paintings (HD)

Johannes Vermeer: A collection of 41 paintings (HD) Description: "Johannes was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. Vermeer was a moderately successful provincial genre painter in his lifetime. He evidently was not wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death, perhaps because he produced relatively few paintings. Vermeer worked slowly and with great care, and frequently used very expensive pigments. He is particularly renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work. Vermeer painted mostly domestic interior scenes. "Almost all his paintings are apparently set in two smallish rooms in his house in Delft; they show the same furniture and decorations in various arrangements and they often portray the same people, mostly women." He was recognized during his lifetime in Delft and The Hague, but his modest celebrity gave way to obscurity after his death. He was barely mentioned in Arnold Houbraken's major source book on 17th-century Dutch painting (Grand Theatre of Dutch Painters and Women Artists), and was thus omitted from subsequent surveys of Dutch art for nearly two centuries. In the 19th century, Vermeer was rediscovered by Gustav Friedrich Waagen and Théophile Thoré-Bürger, who published an essay attributing 66 pictures to him, although only 34 paintings are universally attributed to him today. Since that time, Vermeer's reputation has grown, and he is now acknowledged as one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

John Singer Sargent: A collection of 32 sketches (HD)

John Singer Sargent: A collection of 32 sketches (HD) Description: "At the turn of the century, John Singer Sargent was the portrait artist for rulers and the upper-class in both Europe and the United States of America. Sargent's best portraits reveal the individuality and personality of his sitters; his admirers think he is second only to Velázquez. Although primarily known for his portraiture, Sargent experimented with many artistic styles, especially while travelling, a passion he indulged with sketchbook in hand. However, he never embraced the modern styles that became in vogue towards the end of his career, and for this he was criticized. His personal life is not as colorful as some of the more well-known artists. Sargent was, quite simply, a private man who worked hard and was extremely good at what he did, with a uniformity of excellence that shocks even some of his critics." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Ambiment - The Ambient Ambiment - The Ambient by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100630 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Edward Seago: A collection of 77 paintings (HD)

Edward Seago: A collection of 77 paintings (HD) Description: "Edward Seago enjoyed the position as one of the most popular British artists of the 20th century. He began painting at the age of seven when he was confined to his room with a heart condition. Later, fully recovered, he would study with Bernard Priestman. He became a successful illustrator in the 1930's, working for, among others, England's poet laureate of the sea, John Masefield. After serving with the royal engineers in WWII, he would spend the remainder of his life painting and writing. He was an avid sailor which is evident in the accuracy and flavor of his sea paintings. Exhibiting widely, his famous one man shows at Colnaghi's would usually sell out on the first day. People were known to line up by 6 am to secure the painting of their choice. Examination of Seago's work shows the influence of the Dutch 17th century school and British artists such as John Constable. His two greatest influences however were the French impressionist Eugene Boudin and American painter James McNeil Whistler." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Caravaggio: A collection of 79 paintings (HD)

06:48
Caravaggio: A collection of 79 paintings (HD) Description: "Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Italian painter with great influence both in Italy and abroad. Caravaggio is particularly renowned for his use of chiaroscuro, a technique that uses light and dark to achieve a 3-D effect. Caravaggio breaks away from the tradition of symmetrical figures and detailed backgrounds. His figures do retain a traditional monumentality. His later work is less plastic. Caravaggio takes his name from the village where he was born. He receives his first training in Milan, specializing in still-lives. Around 1592 he takes to Rome, the spiritual capital of the Italian peninsula, switching his subject matter to street-life and young boys. In 1595 Caravaggio's talent catches the eye of cardinal Francesco Del Monte, who subsequently becomes his first patron. Caravaggio's three paintings on the life of St Matthew cause a sensation: never before has a saint, let alone an apostle, been shown like this. (calling, inspiration, martyrdom) After this succès fou, Caravaggio takes all his subjects from the New Testament. Caravaggio's life is as turbulent as his personality. He has many run-ins with the law and is arrested on several occasions. In 1606 a bet over a game of tennis leads to an argument, at which point Caravaggio draws his sword and kills his opponent. He flees to Naples, intending to take the long way home to Rome - where friends are lobbying for his rehabilitation - via Malta and Sicily. On his wanderings he produces several masterpieces, such as The Beheading of St John the Baptist, which he creates in Malta. He dies before reaching Rome, probably of pneumonia, in Porto Ercole. Several days after his death word arrives of papal absolution. Caravaggio's influence is widespread: outside Italy he inspires painters as diverse asGeorges de La Tour and members of the Utrecht School, e.g. Gerrit van Honthorst – artists who in their turn are later to influence Rembrandt." Andrew Wyeth: A collection of 108 paintings (HD)

Andrew Wyeth: A collection of 108 paintings (HD) Description: "Andrew Newell Wyeth was an American visual artist and realist painter. He will be remembered for his creations of paintings like ‘Christina’s World’ and ‘Winter 1946’. Trained by his artist father N.C. Wyeth, he achieved an important place in the field of art in the United States. As an artist, his first solo exhibition in New York attracted public attention when all of his paintings were sold there. After losing his father in an accident, he expressed his grief for his father by shifting his paintings from realism to abstract expressionism. He expressed his sincere grief for the death of his father by portraying barren lands and single figure. Some of his well known paintings include ‘Roasted Chestnuts’ and his self portrait titled ‘Trodden Weed’. All of his painting works represent a perfect amalgamation of beauty, emotion and symbolism. His usage of light and shadow is truly thought provoking. Moreover, all of his paintings prove his expertise in using the technique of egg tempera. Through the creation of paintings like ‘Ravens Grove’, ‘Night Sleeper’ and ‘Pentecost’, he attempted to interpret various moods of light. As the recipient of several prestigious awards, he was the first living American artist whom Britain’s Royal Academy elected as its member." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Earth Prelude Earth Prelude by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100247 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your help!

Józef Chełmoński: A collection of 114 paintings (HD) Description: "Józef Marian Chełmoński (November 7, 1849 – April 6, 1914) was a Polish painter of the realist school with roots in the historical and social context of the late Romantic period in the partitioned Poland. He is famous for monumental paintings now at the Sukiennice National Art Gallery in Kraków and at the MNW in Warsaw. Chełmoński was born in the village of Boczki near Łowicz in central Congress Poland under the Russian military control. His first drawing teacher was his father (a small leaseholder and administrator of Boczki village). After finishing high school in Warsaw, Jozef studied in Warsaw Drawing Class (1867–1871) and took private lessons from Wojciech Gerson. From 1871 to 1874 Chełmoński lived in Munich. He worked with Polish painters assembled around Jozef Brandt and Maksymilian Gierymski. There, he also studied for a few months at the academy of H. Anschutz and A. Strahuber. In 1872 and 1874 Chełmoński visited the Polish Territories (Poland, as an independent country, did not exist during this time), Tatra Mountains and Ukraine. His first paintings were done under the influence of Gerson. The works that followed were landscapes and villages. In 1875 Chełmoński went to Paris, where he had many important exhibitions and became known to the art scene. With many orders, the artistic level of his paintings decreased. From 1878 to 1887 Chełmoński visited Poland, Vienna and Venice. In 1887 he returned to Poland and in 1889 settled in the village of Kuklówka Zarzeczna. Contact with his homeland and nature are qualities revealed in his artworks. From that time are the best liked, or the most beloved of Chełmoński's paintings are paintings such as Partridge on the Snow, The Storks or Before Thunderstorm. Chełmoński represented the trend in art called "Polish Patriotic Painting". He died in Kuklówka near Grodzisk Mazowiecki in 1914." Feel free to subscribe!

Harald Slott Moller: A collection of 43 paintings (HD)

Harald Slott-Møller: A collection of 43 paintings (HD) Description: "Slott-Møller first exhibited in 1886 at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition and attracted attention in 1888 with his large lively work Fattigfolk i Fattiglægens Venteværelse (Poor People in the Poor Doctor's Waiting Room). He exhibited at Kunsthal Charlottenborg and Den Frie Udstilling with individual portraits, such as that of Georg Brandes (Georg Brandes at the University in Copenhagen, 1889), and landscapes, which often featured a prominent spot. A change in style occurred in the early 1890s as can be seen in his portrait of the sculptor Anne Marie Brodersen, in which her fair hair is covered with gold, as are the cornfields in one of his landscapes. Then followed a series of painting which ensured him a place as one of the principal participants in 1890 painting: Tre kvinder (Three Women), Foraaret (Spring), and his strikingly symbolic work Primavera (1901).Slott-Møller is remembered for his portraits of well-known figures from Southern Jutland and South Schleswig, often characterized with customized backgrounds such as a landscape or appropriate buildings. He also worked at the faience factory Aluminia 1902-1906 designing a number of notable items together with Christian Joachim (da).[4] As a result, Slott-Møller gained wide recognition as one of the leading craftsmen of the turn of the century. Although he continued to paint, opinions about his work became ever less supportive, partly on artistic grounds but also as a result of his attitude towards the public. In 1919, he became a Knight of the Dannebrog. He was a founding member of Den Frie Udstilling (The Free Exhibition). He is buried at Holmens Cemetery. Slott-Møller is portrayed in a double portrait: Ude eller Kammerater (Out or Comrades, 1886) in which he and his wife have painted each other. Another self-portrait based on a study drawing was Trækfuglene (Migratory Birds, 1909). There is also a self-portrait in Florence's Uffizi Gallery (1924)." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Frida Kahlo: A collection of 100 paintings (HD)

Frida Kahlo: A collection of 100 paintings (HD) Description: "Frida Kahlo's work was influenced by traumatic physical and psychological events from her childhood and early adulthood, including a crippling accident and the infidelity of her husband. In addition to personal issues, Kahlo's often brooding and introspective subject matter also deals with questions of national identity. Her mixed ancestry - Mexican and German - provided a rich source of ideas, particularly during the Second World War, when Kahlo changed the spelling of her first name to one that was less Germanic. Her works are often categorized as Surrealist because of her sometimes bizarre and disturbing themes, but unlike the Surrealists, Kahlo was not interested in dreams or the subconscious - her art was almost always starkly autobiographical. In later life, she was forced to rely on painkillers that affected the quality of her output. She has now become a cultural icon and is especially revered in her home country for her focus on her Mexican identity, or Mexicanidad." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your help!

Raphael: A collection of 65 sketches & etchings (HD)

05:40
Raphael: A collection of 65 sketches & etchings (HD) Description: "Raphael, born Raffaello Sanzio, was crowned the "Prince of Painters" by Giorgio Vasari, a sixteenth-century biographer of artists. From his father, Raphael learned painting; in his native Urbino, he experienced intellectual court life. A year after his father's sudden death, Raphael entered the workshop of Urbino's leading painter at age twelve and quickly surpassed his master. By the age of twenty-one, Raphael had moved to Florence, where he embraced the works of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. In Florence, his many paintings of the Madonna and Child display his characteristic human warmth, serenity, and sublimely perfect figures. Raphael's art epitomized the High Renaissance qualities of harmony and ideal beauty. In four years Raphael's fame led to a summons to Rome from Pope Julius II. As painter to the papal court, his work met with high praise, and he established himself as the most favored artist in Rome. He was commissioned to paint portraits, devotional subjects, and the Pope's private rooms; he also designed tapestries. Raphael was soon placed in charge of all papal projects involving architecture, paintings, decoration, and the preservation of antiquities. His untimely death at the age of thirty-seven, Vasari said, "plunged into grief the entire papal court"; the Pope, who "wept bitterly when he died, had intended making him a Cardinal." Antonio Mancini: A collection of 58 paintings (HD)

05:03
Antonio Mancini: A collection of 58 paintings (HD) Description: One of Italy's greatest early modern painters, Antonio Mancini (1852-1930) is best known for his daring and innovative painting methods. Born in Rome, Mancini spent his formative years in Naples, and it was there that the young artist was first recognized as a precociously gifted figure painter, noted for his poignant depictions of poor street urchins, or scugnizzi, subjects with whom he identified through his own impoverished childhood. Through his studies at the Istituto di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts) and the influence of Neapolitan Baroque artists and his own most important teacher, Domenico Morelli, Mancini developed a realistic style that he held to stubbornly, even after meeting Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Jean Léon Gérôme, and other French artists during two extended trips to Paris in the 1870s. After returning to Naples, Mancini's promising career was seriously derailed by an episode of mental illness-possibly brought on by mercury poisoning-that included delirium and even hallucinations and culminated in his hospitalization for four months in 1881-82. Although pronounced "cured," his bizarre behavior persisted to the extent that many referred to him as il pittore pazzo--the crazy painter. It was during this first period of mental instability that Mancini began to express his lifelong fixation with reflective self portraits. His paintings were at once realistic and visionary. Mancini moved permanently to Rome in 1883. In the following decades his inability to manage his affairs limited him to a precarious existence even as he developed new techniques: the use of the gratìcola (or perspective grid), radically thick impastos, and the inclusion of glass, metal foil, and other materials on the surfaces of his paintings. Nevertheless, he garnered the support of a cadre of European and American patrons and artists, and the turn of the century brought growing critical acclaim and acceptance of his work. John Singer Sargent is said to have called Mancini the "greatest living painter." Mancini contributed paintings to the Venice Biennale and other respected exhibitions in Europe, and by the time of his death in Italy in 1930, he had assumed the status of a national hero. Vilhelm Hammershoi: A collection of 120 paintings (HD)

10:15
Vilhelm Hammershoi: A collection of 120 paintings (HD) Description: "Danish painter, Vilhelm Hammershoi is best known for his genre-painting consisting of quiet interiors, in muted colours/tones of blue and grey, containing isolated figures that have their back turned to the viewer. His rooms are sparsely furnished, suggesting a quiet melancholy or introspection. Although Hammershoi is considered to be an exponent of Symbolism, there is equal argument for suggesting that he was simply interested in portraying beauty in the ordinary, rather than making any complex statements. His art has a mystical, timeless quality about it, but it also enables the viewer to take a nostalgic journey into the past. Influenced by the composition and tonal variations of Dutch Realist genre painting from the likes of Jan Vermeer, and also by the American Post-Impressionist James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Hammershoi's most familiar subject is his wife, painted in their tidy apartment. He also produced a number of landscapes, but these are considered of less importance. His reputation is undergoing something of a revival, and he is now considered to be one of the best genre painters from Scandinavia." Feel free to subscribe!

Emile Friant: A collection of 64 paintings (HD)

Émile Friant: A collection of 64 paintings (HD) Description: "Friant was born in the commune of Dieuze in 1863. His father was a locksmith and mother a dressmaker. The wife of a chemist, Madame Parisot would hire the wife of Émile Friant's father to design custom clothing. The Parisots took an early interest in the young Friant and treated him maternally, as they were without children of their own. With the defeat of the Second French Empire at hand, as part of the then-ongoing Franco-Prussian War, Dieuze was no longer under state control. Intensely distressed by this, Parisot intended to leave the commune for Nancy, but died shortly before having the chance. In 1871, Madame Parisot fled with Friant to Nancy; his biological family would follow later. Friant was sent to the lycée to learn Latin, as Madame Parisot intended for him to follow in her husband's footsteps and become a chemist. Meanwhile, friends of his biological father had suggested sending him to a municipal school of art because of his skill with the brush. Because of his poor work at the lycée, Friant requested permission to leave and focus on his art. His father agreed, and the young Friant was placed under the guide of a private tutor who would arrange his academic work so that time remained for painting. Under the guidance of Louis-Théodore Devilly, director of a school in Nancy and a proponent of realism, Friant learned the art of still life and landscape painting. Friant painted Le petit Friant at the age of 15. It was exhibited in Nancy and quickly became the center of public intrigue. The municipal council granted him permission to travel to Paris a year later. There, he studied under Alexandre Cabanel, who tutored him in creating oil sketches of historical works. Friant, becoming disenchanted by the academic style of the atelier method, returned to Nancy. In 1882, Aime Morot, a friend of Friant, encouraged him to debut two of his works at the Salon: The Prodigal Son and Studio Interior. The following year, Friant took second place in the Prix de Rome and again presented at the Salon. At his next two Salon presentations, spanning from 1883 to 1884, he won third-class and second-class honors respectively. He would form a lasting friendship with the actors Ernest and Benoit Coquelin. With the grant he received from the Salon of 1886, Frian traveled to and studied in the Netherlands. His portrait of the Coquelins' mother reflects the influence of that trip. Friant was appointed a professor of painting in 1923 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, promoted to the position of commander in the Legion of Honor, and made a member of the Institut de France. In 1932, Friant fell to his death in Paris." Feel free to subscribe!

Gustav Klimt: A collection of 112 paintings (HD) Description: "An influential painter and the founder of the Vienna Secession art movement, Gustav Klimt dominated the art scene in the 19th century Austria. Till date, his art works demand high respect and are widely revered in the art circles. Klimt chose to go off the beaten track of conventional and traditional academic art and adopted the new trend in European modern art. He is known for his decorative art, a genre that most of his contemporaries chose not to adopt. He was the most renowned proponent of Art Nouveau, a genre of art that was inspired by natural forms and structures. One of the most celebrated artists of the 19thcentury, Klimt’s paintings portrayed women in sensual and erotic tones. It was the presence of erotic appeal in his paintings that is accountable for his being enlisted in the list of most controversial artists of his time. Gustav Klimt’s work were constantly criticised for their sexual elements, due to which he had to submit some of his works to religious authorities before exhibiting them. Some of best known paintings include, ‘Old Burgtheater in Vienna’, ‘The Kiss’ ‘Portrait of Baroness Elisabeth Bachofen-Echt’ and ‘Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I’." Feel free to subscribe!

Sydney Long: A collection of 38 paintings (HD)

Sydney Long: A collection of 38 paintings (HD) Description: "Sydney Long was an Australian artist, active as a painter and printmaker. His work may be considered an example of the Art Nouveau style in Australia, and he is one of the country’s most important representatives of the Symbolist movement. Many of his images portray magical, almost dreamlike scenes, inviting the viewer to experience something almost transcendental or reverential. He remains a popular artist in his homeland, where many of his paintings remain on permanent display. Long first came to the attention of the art world in the 1890s, while studying at the Art Society of New South Wales at Sydney. His painting By Tranquil Waters, executed in 1894, was purchased that year by the National Gallery of Art of New South Wales. The painting, an Impressionistic scene of boys bathing in Cook’s River, attracted significant critical attention, as did its purchase by the National Gallery. Following the success of this painting, Long began working in a style that was increasingly decorative, with a color palette that was often restricted to a small range of blues and grey-greens. His works’ flatness—in which the picture plane’s two-dimensionality is emphasized—illustrate the influence of Symbolism and the English Aesthetic movement. Paintings such as Spirit of the Plains (1897) and Flamingoes (c. 1907) demonstrate this stylistic idiom. These works, as well as paintings such as Pan (1898), also highlight Long’s desire to depict mythical subject matter through a uniquely Australian lens. In September of 1910 Long left Australia for England, a journey he had been wanting to undertake for several years. For the next decade he lived, studied, and worked primarily in London, making occasional visits to Paris and Bruges. It was during this London period, in 1918, that Long began his studies with printmaking. His aquatint reproductions of earlier paintings—notably Pan and Spirit of the Plains—became particularly successful, and Long was recognized as a noteworthy printmaker when he returned to Sydney in 1918. After his return to Australia Long settled in Sydney in 1925, where he set up a studio and taught etching. For years he remained one of the country's foremost printmakers. When the art world's vogue for etchings fell out of favor in the mid-1930s, Long returned to painting. He continued painting landscape scenes during the last decades of his life. When his health began to fail he and his wife, Catherine Brennan, returned to London in 1952, where he died in 1955." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Earth Prelude Earth Prelude by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100247 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Considered to be among the most talented painters of the late 19th century, his paintings were characterized by certain expressiveness that is hard to convey in words. He possessed the ability to capture the character and personality of the subjects he painted on his canvas, such was the scale of his artistic abilities. Though best known for his nudes, he was equally skilled at painting portraits, especially of the common, working class. Born as the illegitimate son of a working class woman, life was not particularly easy for the young Anders. He had never met his father though the man had acknowledged him as his son and given him his name. From a young age Anders was fascinated by all forms of art and displayed artistic abilities. Through his determination and sheer hard work he rose from his humble beginnings to become one of the most famous artists to have been born in Sweden. His rags to riches story culminated in a fairy-tale ending when he met and fell in love with a beautiful girl from a wealthy family. The ensuing marriage to his lady love proved lucky for him and he went on to achieve international fame as an artist. Feel free to subscribe!

Newell Convers Wyeth: A collection of 80 paintings (HD) Description: "NEWELL CONVERS WYETH (1882-1945) had a huge zest for life. He carried this enthusiasm through a tremendous number of paintings, more than 3,000 illustrations, numerous vast murals, and a great many still life and landscape paintings. Howard Pyle was his teacher and idol. Wyeth emulated Pyle's approach as nearly as possible, painting much of the same kind of subject matter; medieval life, pirates, Americana. To this he added his own dramatic picture concepts and rich, decorative color. Outstanding in this phase of his work were the more than twenty-five books he illustrated for Chrles Scribner's Sons Classic series. The popularity of these books is such that, even after decades, most of them are still in print. After painting in oils for many years, Wyeth turned to the egg tempera medium and also began to paint more for exhibitions. He encouraged an interest in the arts in his children, giving them every opportunity for self expression. His daughters Henriette and Caroline, are both accomplished painters; Ann, a composer, and his son, Andrew, is a famous painter. His grandson, Jamie, is also an excellent painter in his own right. The October, 1965, issue of American Heritage contains an excellent article by Henry C. Pitz about the career of Wyeth and his family. At the time of his tragic death in a railway crossing accident, N. C. Wyeth was one of America's best loved painters." Feel free to subscribe!

Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch: A collection of 92 paintings (HD) Description: "Dutch painter, part of a family of artists, cousin of Jan Weissenbruch. He referred to himself and signed his work as Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch. The first generation of the family included the amateur painter and collector Johannes Weissenbruch (1787-1834) and his brother, the engraver Johan Daniel Weissenbruch (1789-1858), three of whose sons were also artists: Jan Weissenbruch (1822-1880), who was widely known for his sun-drenched townscapes, the lithographer Frederick Hendrik Weissenbruch (1828-1887) and the engraver Isaac Weissenbruch (1826-1912). Johannes's son Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch was a watercolour painter of landscapes and beach views and is regarded as one of the masters of the Hague School; a younger son, Frederik Adrianus Weissenbruch (1826-1882), was an engraver. The third generation included Jan Hendrik's son Willem Johannes Weissenbruch (1864-1941), who was also a painter. From 1840 Jan Hendrik attended drawing lessons with the Norwegian painter Johannes Löw, and from 1846 he was taught by Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove (1790-1880) at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. His early paintings clearly show the influence of van Hove and Andreas Schelfhout (1787-1870), although it is uncertain whether he was actually taught by the latter. His father, an avid collector, owned works by both artists. Weissenbruch copied the works of the seventeenth-century Dutch artists and painted in the area surrounding The Hague, Haarlem, and Arnhem. He became a significant open-air and watercolour painter of the Hague School." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida: A collection of 149 paintings (HD) Description: "Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida began to study painting at the age of fifteen in his native Valencia, Spain. At the age of eighteen, he went to Madrid, where he copied Old Master paintings in the Museo del Prado. Four years later, Sorolla won a grant to study painting in Rome; there he developed a distinct ability for depicting the effects of light. When Sorolla returned to Madrid, his paintings were in great demand. The paintings he exhibited at the 1901 Exposition Universelle in Paris were very well received. Contributing to his international fame, the Hispanic Society of America commissioned him to paint decorative scenes for its library in New York City in 1911. J. Paul Getty purchased ten of Sorolla's Impressionist beach scenes at auction in 1933. He later explained, "One could hardly imagine greater contrasts than those between a Van Goyen and a Sorolla--but, as I say, I bought what I liked." Sorolla's widow left a large collection of his paintings to the people of Spain. The collection is now a museum, the Museo Sorolla, in the artist's house in Madrid." Feel free to subscribe!

Saturnino Herrán: A collection of 53 works (HD) Description: "Saturnino Herrán (b. 9 July 1887; d. 8 October 1918), Mexican artist. Born in Aguascalientes, Herrán was one of the pioneers of the modern Mexican movement and is known primarily for a mural project for the National Theater, Our Gods, for which he did numerous studies from 1914 to 1918. It was never completed, but his focus on issues of Mexican identity have assured him a place in the history of Mexican art. He emphasized the dual nature of Mexican identity by using the Aztec earth goddess Coatlicue as the central motif, on which he superimposed an image of the crucified Christ. The Aztec deity symbolizes the indigenous character of Mexico and the Christ figure its European aspect. Figures making offerings are shown on each side of the central motif, Indians on the left and Spaniards on the right. Easel paintings by Herrán on Mexican subjects (people at work, fiestas, traditions, and history) inspired the artists of the Mexican School of the 1920s through 1940s. In portraits and a series of paintings he called "the creoles," he used distinctive colonial churches in the background to identify the sitters as Mexican and the location as Mexico. Each of the criollas portrays a beautiful woman as a symbol of Mexico. In his early paintings of 1912 and 1914, Herrán placed elderly figures in thematic contexts that emphasized their hopeless condition, exhausted by a life of toil and suffering. In his later works of 1917, the elderly figures have a serenity and peace that reflects a spirituality or intense religiosity." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Arnold Bocklin: A collection of 143 paintings (HD)

Arnold Bocklin: A collection of 143 paintings (HD) Description: "Arnold Böcklin, (born October 16, 1827, Basel, Switzerland—died January 16, 1901, Fiesole, Italy) painter whose moody landscapes and sinister allegories greatly influenced late 19th-century German artists and presaged the symbolism of the 20th-century Metaphysical and Surrealist artists.Although he studied and worked throughout much of northern Europe—Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Brussels, and Paris—Böcklin found his real inspiration in the landscape of Italy, where he returned from time to time and where the last years of his life were spent. Böcklin first won a reputation with the large mural Pan in the Bulrushes (c. 1857), which brought him the patronage of the king of Bavaria. From 1858 to 1861, he taught at the Weimar Art School, but his nostalgia for the Italian landscape pursued him. After an interval during which he completed his mythological frescoes for the decoration of the Public Art Collection (Öffentliche Kunstsammlung), Basel, he settled in Italy and only occasionally returned to Germany, and then to experiment with flying machines. During his last two decades, Böcklin’s work became increasingly subjective, often showing fabulous creatures or being based on dark allegorical themes, as in Island of the Dead (1880), which provided the inspiration for the symphonic poem The Isle of the Dead by the Russian composer Sergey Rachmaninoff. Such spectral scenes as his Odysseus and Calypso (1883) and The Pest (1898) reveal the morbid symbolism that anticipated the so-called Freudian imagery of much 20th-century art. Hieronymus Bosch: A collection of 147 paintings (HD)

Hieronymus Bosch: A collection of 147 paintings (HD) Description: "Hieronymus Bosch was an Early Netherlandish painter. His work is known for its fantastic imagery, detailed landscapes, and illustrations of religious concepts and narratives. Within his lifetime his work was collected in the Netherlands, Austria, and Spain, and widely copied, especially his macabre and nightmarish depictions of hell. Little is known of Bosch's life, though there are some records. He spent most of it in the town of 's-Hertogenbosch, where he was born in his grandfather's house. The roots of his forefathers are in Nijmegen and Aachen (which is visible in his surname: Van Aken). His pessimistic and fantastical style cast a wide influence on northern art of the 16th century, with Pieter Bruegel the Elder being his best known follower. His paintings have been difficult to translate from a modern point of view. Today he is seen as a hugely individualistic painter with deep insight into humanity's desires and deepest fears. Attribution has been especially difficult; today only about 25 paintings are confidently given to his hand along with 8 drawings. Approximately another half dozen paintings are confidently attributed to his workshop. His most acclaimed works consist of a few triptych altarpieces, the most outstanding of which is The Garden of Earthly Delights." Feel free to subscribe!

Rembrandt van Rijn: A collection of 102 sketches (HD)

Rembrandt van Rijn: A collection of 102 sketches (HD) Description: "Rembrandt van Rijn, in full Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Rembrandt originally spelled Rembrant (born July 15, 1606, Leiden, Netherlands—died October 4, 1669, Amsterdam) Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, possessing an exceptional ability to render people in their various moods and dramatic guises. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favoured an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty. Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits. Although he continued to paint—and etch and, occasionally, draw—portraits throughout his career, he did so less frequently over time. Roughly one-tenth of his painted and etched oeuvre consists of studies of his own face as well as more-formal self-portraits, a fact that has led to much speculation. The core of Rembrandt’s oeuvre, however, consists of biblical and—to a much lesser extent—historical, mythological, and allegorical “history pieces,” all of which he painted, etched, or sketched in pen and ink or chalk. Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are remarkable. His approach to composition and his rendering of space and light—like his handling of contour, form, and colour, his brushwork, and (in his drawings and etchings) his treatment of line and tone—are subject to gradual (or sometimes abrupt) transformation, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1640/42) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. These changes are not the result of an involuntary evolution; rather they should be seen as documenting a conscious search in pictorial and narrative respects, sometimes in discussion, as it were, with his great predecessors. Rembrandt quickly achieved renown among Dutch art lovers and an art-buying public for his history paintings and etchings, as well as his portraits and self-portraits. His unusual etchings brought him international fame during his lifetime, and his drawings, which in fact were done as practice exercises or as studies for other works, were also collected by contemporary art lovers. According to the myth that evolved after his death, Rembrandt died poor and misunderstood. It is true that by the end of his life his realism had been supplanted by Classicism and had become unfashionable in Holland. Nevertheless, his international reputation among connoisseurs and collectors only continued to rise. Certain artists in 18th-century Germany and Venice even adopted his style. He was venerated during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutch-ness." Feel free to subscribe!

Richard Diebenkorn: A collection of 90 paintings (HD)

Richard Diebenkorn: A collection of 90 paintings (HD) Description: "Richard Diebenkorn maintained his love of vivid color and structured composition in both his abstract and representational works. Born in Portland, Oregon in 1922, Diebenkorn moved with his family to San Francisco in 1924. After attending Stanford University from 1940 to 1942, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he concentrated on art classes. In the winter of 1944, when he was stationed in Virginia, he frequently visited The Phillips Collection, where he was inspired by the paintings of Henri Matisse and Paul Cezanne. He particularly admired Matisse’s technique of structuring space through planes of color, merging indoor and outdoor space. Returning to San Francisco in 1946, Diebenkorn enrolled at the California School of Fine Arts, where he studied with David Park, an expressionist artist from the Bay Area. Awarded a fellowship the same year, he moved East, living and working in Woodstock, New York, visiting New York City, and making many contacts. After returning to San Francisco, where he defined himself as a leading Bay Area artist, he was appointed to the faculty at the California School of Fine Arts in 1947, a position he held for two years; his fellow teachers included Elmer Bischoff, Edward Corbett, Hassel Smith, and Clyfford Still. Diebenkorn had his first one-person show in 1948 at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. After receiving a degree from Stanford University in 1949, he was awarded an M.F.A. from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1951. He briefly taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana 1952-53, settling shortly thereafter in Berkeley, California. Diebenkorn often titled his works after places that provided him with inspiration, such as his Berkeley paintings. Throughout the 1940s and early 1950s, Diebenkorn followed a distinctive abstract vocabulary of forms, stylistically rooted in the New York School, placing him firmly within the ethos of American modernism. However, in 1955 he shifted from abstraction to a more representational mode, making reference to observed subjects. Until 1967, when he returned to abstraction, Diebenkorn executed still-lifes, landscapes and interior figure paintings that present his finely tuned sense of color and structure. From 1955 to 1973 Diebenkorn taught at several California arts institutions, including a position at UCLA (1967) while he worked in a studio in the Ocean Park district of Santa Monica. There he created his last representational works, but returned to abstraction with his Ocean Park paintings. This series is characterized by broadly brushed surfaces of luminescent and atmospheric color, affirming the artist’s continuing concern with formal issues. These abstract brilliantly colored works—both paintings and drawings—elicited great acclaim, and The Phillips Collection owns three works from this series. Diebenkorn remained a prolific artist until his death in Berkeley, California, in 1993." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Bruno Liljefors: A collection of 62 paintings (HD)

Bruno Liljefors: A collection of 62 paintings (HD) Description: "Bruno Liljefors was born May 14, 1860 in Uppsala, the son of gunpowder merchant Anders Liljefors (1813 -) and Margaret Mary Lindbeck (1829 -). As a child, it is said that Bruno was sickly and weak and therefore spent much time indoors, where he sat and drew and drew. In order to improve his health, he was prescribed fresh air and walking. Already as a young man he drew with a sure hand animals in motion, such as dogs, foxes and flying birds. He spent much time outdoors, both on hunting trips and friluftsman. All these exercises caused him to grow up to be an athletic gymnast. Along with his two younger brothers, he performed even at the circus for a period of "The Brothers Manzondi". Nineteen years old, he joined the Academy where he attended the years 1879-1882. There he met Anders Zorn, and they became good friends. During his studies, he pulled himself up by selling some stock pictures to magazines, including New Illustrated magazine, which paid a 30-40 SEK per animal picture. His "moonlighting" was, however, over studying but the teachers agreed to some of absence when they realized how talented he was. The atmosphere at the academy was changed after two of the teachers died in the space of six months. Now tolerated suddenly no longer absences, and including Anders Zorn left the school and in 1882 also ended Bruno. He traveled abroad for a time, including France, Denmark and a few months in Düsseldorf where he received guidance in his paintings of animals and hunting painter Carl Friedrich Deiker (1836-1892). Back home, he received orders for paintings, which he was doing throughout 1880 - and the 90's. Twenty-seven years old (1887) he married Anna Olofsson and the following year (1888) he was offered to substitute for two years to Carl Larsson as head of the Valand art school in Gothenburg. Carl Larsson was in Paris to paint pictures for his benefactor Pontus Fürstenberg (1827-1902). Furstenberg was a man who involved himself in the young artists in Gothenburg and Bruno was soon commissioned by him, too. Bruno's homesick, however, became too great and after one year temporary position, he said up and went home to Kvarnbo outside Uppsala. His marriage to Anne was not so successful, and after some years they divorced. 1895, he married her younger sister Signe Olofsson. In 1906 he was called to chair a member of Berlin's Academy of Art. Bruno was one of the best and brightest animal painters Sweden had. He died in Stockholm on 18 December 1939, 79 years old. One of his paintings were sold in 2004 to 4.2 million." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Johan Christian Dahl: A collection of 92 paintings (HD) Description: "Johan Christian Dahl is considered one of the most accomplished landscape painters and Romantic artists of his time. Dahl began his training in Norway as a decorative painter, and continued his studies at the Copenhagen Academy under artists Carl Adolf Lorentzen and Georg Haas. Dahl was perhaps most influenced by 17th-century Dutch landscape painters, particularly Jacob van Ruisdael, as well as Caspar David Friedrich, who was also a lifelong friend. He made many studies for larger works en plein air, but the final works would be the combined result of sketches and landscapes conjured from memory. His works were characteristically emotional and nocturnal, with light filtering through clouds or mist. The erupting volcano Vesuvius also appeared in many of his works, inspired by Dahl’s witness of the actual phenomenon at close range." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

He was inducted as an honorary member of the Academy of Visual Arts in 1868, though he had never attended an art academy himself. Beginning in 1844, he produced many humoristic pictures in the "Fliegende Blätter." In this small format work, he represented the world of the German everyman with loving humor and indulgence as the Biedermeier ideal of "the good ole days." The work which best represents his technical sophistication and unmistakable style is "Der arme Poet" ("The Poor Poet") from 1839. Carl Spitzweg died on September 23, 1885, in Munich." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Arkhip Kuindzhi: A collection of 177 paintings (HD)

Arkhip Kuindzhi: A collection of 177 paintings (HD) Description: "The Russian landscape painter Arkhip Ivanovich Kuinji was born in 1842 in the town of Mariupol on the Azov Sea in the South of Russia. Kuinji was of Greek descent – during the reign of Catherine II his ancestors, together with other Greek refugees, settled near the Azov Sea. Kuinji lacked a formal education, but his eminent gift helped him attain a notable success in art. He evidently was allowed to attend classes at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, had training in the workshop of the famous marine painter Ivan Aivazovsky, visited the classes of the Society of Art Lovers. In 1868, having passed exams in general education and special subjects at the Academy of Arts, Kuinji received a diploma of a freelance artist for his independent work. His earlier paintings Autumn Weather (1870), Lake Ladoga (1870) and On the Valaam Island (1873) brought him first recognition. In 1873, Kuinji traveled around Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria and thoroughly studied the works of great masters. On his return, however, he creates works which were absolutely unlike those he had seen in European museums. His Ukrainian Night (1876) opened a new romantic stage in his work. He used special light effects to paint nature and achieved such astonishing results, that people, who saw the picture for the first time at an exhibition, tried to check its back, if there was any special source of light. Exhibited at the Paris World Fair in 1878 The Ukranian Night attracted the attention of the eminent French critics. Kuinji developed a new vision in his next painting A Birch Grove (1879). It is both realistic and conventionalized; it looks as a condensed essence of reality. In 1880, he completed Moonlit Night on Dnieper (1880). The picture was a great success. Kuinji became an idol of the public. But he was not understood by his colleagues who saw in his art only illusory color effects, did not support his romantic searching. Probably it was the reason of his withdrawal from all exhibitions and public arrangements. He worked hard in his studio, experimenting much, but only his close friends saw his works. In 1894, he accepted an invitation to become a professor of the Academy. He was very fond of teaching and his students admired him. Among Kuinji’s pupils were several prominent artists such as N. Rerikh, K. Bogaevskiy, A. Rilov, V. Purvit and others. Unfortunately his career of a professor did not last long, he was dismissed for supporting students in their protests against authorities. But he continued to teach his students privately, and then paid for their trip around Europe. Later he presented the Academy with a big sum of money, the interest from which was to be used for awards to young painters. In 1909, he founded The Kuinji Society, an independent association of painters, to which he left all his pictures and property. The next year he died. Bruce Crane: A collection of 88 paintings (HD)

09:14
Bruce Crane: A collection of 88 paintings (HD) Description: "Bruce Crane was one of America’s best-known Tonalists, adapting the style of the Barbizon School to the American tradition. Born in New York City, Crane began his painting career by seeking out the instruction of Alexander Wyant, who took him to paint in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains. Wyant’s moody, tonal style had a profound influence on Crane’s work, but he quickly abandoned Wyant’s favored wilderness for more picturesque subjects. Concentrating on open pastures, barnyards, and hayfields, Crane responded to nature’s quiet poetry and delicacy of tone. Crane journeyed to Europe in 1880, spending time in Paris and Grez-Sur-Loing, a pastoral artist’s colony. There, he gained direct exposure to the French Barbizon aesthetic, which introduced an increasingly atmospheric element into his work. When he returned to New York the following year, Crane set out for his favorite painting haunts in the Adirondack woods, Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut, creating pastoral landscapes that carried the golden haze of summer or grey light of fall. Crane’s work was admired by critics and patrons throughout the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. His paintings were continually on view at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Boston Art Club, and the Corcoran Gallery, and he earned numerous honors over the course of his career, winning prizes from the National Academy of Design, the Society of American Artists, the Carnegie Institute, the Salmagundi Club, the Paris Exposition of 1900, and the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. His paintings are now in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Wu Guanzhong: A collection of 52 works (HD)

Wu Guanzhong: A collection of 52 works (HD) Description: "Wu Guanzhong (Chinese, 1919–2010) was one of the most renowned Chinese artists of the 20th century, and is widely considered to be the founder of modern Chinese painting. Born in Yixing in the Jiangsu Province, in 1935, he entered the Zhejiang Industrial School, where he studied engineering. In 1936, he transferred to the National Arts Academy of Hangzhou, studying both Chinese and Western painting under Pan Tianshou and Lin Fengmian. In 1947, Wu received a scholarship and traveled to Paris to study at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. During this time, he was greatly inspired by the works of European artists such as Maurice Utrillo, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and, in particular, Vincent van Gogh. Between 1950 and 1953, Wu taught at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, where he introduced Western art practices to his students. Facing strong resistance from members of the academy, who were proponents of the Social Realist style, Wu transferred, first to Tsinghua University and later to the Beijing Fine Arts Normal College. He also traveled around the country, and created a number of landscape paintings. At the start of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, he was banned from painting, writing, and teaching, and, in 1970, was sent to Hebei Province for hard labor. In 1973, Wu and other artists were sent back to Beijing to paint murals for restaurants and hotels. His style gradually evolved over the 1970s, during which time he began using watercolors in the traditional Chinese style. He then concentrated on the human form, and applied the techniques he used in these works to his landscape paintings, experimenting with ink and oil on paper. After the Cultural Revolution, Wu was able to successfully bridge the gap between Western and Eastern art, returning to the stylistic formalism for which he had initially become known. At the beginning of the 1980s, Wu painted The Great Wall for Beijing’s Xiangshan Hotel, which exemplified the shift in style, from representation to semi-abstraction. Over the course of his career, he held solo exhibitions in major art galleries and museums around the world, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Taipei, South Korea, England, and the United States. In 1992, his paintings were exhibited at the British Museum, marking the first show for a living Chinese artist at the institution. Wu passed away in Beijing at the age of 90." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Peter Paul Rubens: A collection of 91 sketches (HD) Description: "Pieter Pauwel Rubens, South Netherlandish painter and draughtsman, famous during his life and thereafter. At first Rubens paints mainly biblical and mythological tableaux, while his Antwerp period (1608-1618) is characterized by its abundance of portraits. After Rubens retires to his country estate 't Steen at Elewijt in 1635, he dedicates himself to landscape painting. Between 1600 en 1608 Rubens travels through Spain and Italy, where he is influenced by the likes of Michelangelo and Raphael. Back in Antwerp in 1609 he marries Isabella Brandt. After her death in 1620 Rubens sets out on his travels once again, marrying Hélène Fourment in 1630. Rubens is the embodiment of Flemish baroque. His temperament helps him break with the reigning, rigid style of his day. Characteristic of his work are the many voluptuous nudes, chubby to modern standards. Rubens draws more commissions than he can handle; in his workshop others do much of his work for him. Often Rubens would draw the composition and add the final touch. Rubens dies in 1640." Ito Jakuchu: A collection of 72 works (HD)

Ito Jakuchu: A collection of 72 works (HD) Description: "Ito Jakuchu was born in Kyoto in Japan. His father was a rich groceryman. The grocery shop had been in his family for four generations, and the family lived at the shop. He was 23 years old when his father died, and he inherited the business. He didn't really want to be a businessman, so after a few years, he let his younger brother run the shop, and he spent the rest of his life painting. Jakuchu enjoyed painting pictures of birds, and in his garden he kept all kinds of birds that he could use as subjects in his paintings. In order to learn how to paint, he copied Chinese paintings, perhaps thousands of them. Then he got tired of just copying the paintings of other artists and decided to paint what he saw. He would watch the birds and other fowl in his garden and then paint those animals. When he painted The Tiger, he could not paint from a live model because there were no tigers in Japan, so he copied a picture that a Chinese artist had painted. You will enjoy looking at the paintings of Roosters and Hens. The roosters shown are the Yokohama variety. These roosters had tails that could grow to be 26 feet long! Jakuchu lived to be 85 years old and never married. He did not enjoy fame for his painting during his lifetime. People only began to become interested in his works after he had been gone for a hundred years or more. In the year 2000, which was 200 years after his death, the Kyoto National Museum featured a showing of his artworks." Moses Soyer: A collection of 49 paintings (HD)

Moses Soyer: A collection of 49 paintings (HD) Description: "Moses Soyer was a significant figure in the American realist movement at the beginning of the 20th century. Soyer was born in Russia in 1899. He and his family, including his twin brother, Raphael Soyer, also a well-known artist, immigrated to New York in 1912. Soyer’s everyday experiences in New York, with its diverse population and bustling activity, were the primary inspiration for his art. Soyer’s training began at Cooper Union, National Academy of Design, whose formalistic curriculum he left in favor of continuing his studies at Ferrer Art School in Spanish Harlem. There, Soyer studied painting and drawing with the more advanced Ashcan school artists Robert Henri and George Bellows. Artists associated with the Ashcan school in the early years of the twentieth century sought to capture New York scenes through realistic and unglamorized representations of everyday life. Known primarily for his drawings and oil paintings, Soyer had his first solo exhibition in 1926 and was awarded a scholarship enabling him to travel to Europe to study drawing. During the 1930s, when the United States was at the height of the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration, a part of the New Deal, commissioned Soyer to paint murals in government buildings throughout the country. Soyer’s art emphasized the depiction of the natural attitudes, thoughts, and gestures of individuals in performing everyday tasks. Throughout his career, Soyer’s art remained close to the representational rendering and simple subject matter of the Ashcan artists and the realism of Edward Hopper and Thomas Eakins. After World War II, as many artists delved into Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting, Soyer continued to paint within the realist canon and achieved recognition for his work. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1963 and in 1966 to the National Institute of Arts and Letters." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Pieter Bruegel the Elder: A collection of 42 paintings (HD)

03:43
Pieter Bruegel the Elder: A collection of 42 paintings (HD) Description: Pieter the Elder Bruegel (c. 1525-1569) was a Netherlandish painter and designer for engravings. His works provide a profound and elemental insight into man and his relationship to the world of nature. Pieter Bruegel lived at a time when northern art was strongly influenced by Italian mannerism, but despite the requisite journey to Italy for purposes of study, he was astonishingly independent of the dominant artistic interests of his day. Instead, he deliberately revived the late Gothic style of Hieronymus Bosch as the point of departure for his own highly complex and original art. Our major source of information concerning Bruegel is the Dutch biographer Karel van Mander, who wrote in 1604. This near-contemporary of the painter claims that Bruegel was born in a town of the same name near Breda on the modern Dutch-Belgian border. Most recent authorities, however, follow the Italian writer Guicciardini in designating the painter's birthplace as Breda itself. From the fact that Bruegel entered the Antwerp painters' guild in 1551, we may infer that he was born between 1525 and 1530. His master, according to Van Mander, was the Antwerp painter Pieter Coecke van Aelst, whose daughter Bruegel married in 1563. Between 1552 and 1553 Bruegel went to Italy, probably by way of France. He visited Rome, where he met the miniaturist Giulio Clovio, whose will of 1578 lists three paintings by Bruegel. These works, which apparently were landscapes, have not survived. About 1555 Bruegel returned to Antwerp by way of the Alps, which resulted in a number of exquisite drawings of mountain landscapes. These sketches, which form the basis for many of his later paintings, are not records of actual places but "composites" made in order to investigate the organic life of forms in nature. Fritz Thaulow: A collection of 157 paintings (HD)

Fritz Thaulow: A collection of 157 paintings (HD) Description: "Norwegian painter Frits Thaulow was born in 1847 and traveled throughout Europe. Though famous for his landscape painting, he is also known for combining Realism and Impressionism in his work. Born in a small town in Norway, Frits Thaulow was the son of a wealthy chemist. His father’s money gave him the chance to work with some of the leading artists of his time. Thaulow worked with several tutors and painters to perfect his art. Early in his career, Thaulow studied maritime art and planned to work in the field, but he later found himself interested in landscape art. After traveling between Norway and France for several years, Thaulow made the permanent move to France, where he lived and worked for the last few years of his life. Thaulow moved to Paris early in his career and worked on a number of paintings. Though Realism was popular in Norway, Paris was the center of the Impressionist movement. When he attempted to paint Impressionist landscapes, he found himself incorporating realistic elements from his childhood. Art historians now often regard the artist’s work as a combination of Realist and Impressionist elements. Those elements are clear inHorses Watering at the Bridge at Montreiul sur Mer. The interesting lines and pale color choices are clearly the work of an Impressionist, while the realistic look of the horses and the houses on the shore fall into the Realism movement. Another of his famous pieces is Summer Landscape with a Bridge at Beaulieu, which centered on a small creek. In 1880, Thaulow left Paris and returned to Norway, where he lived for more than a decade. While in France, he learned many Impressionist techniques that he later brought to his home country. Thaulow often focused on the landscapes and cities near his hometown. He completed a series of paintings of skiers on the slopes of a small town before moving back to Paris. Moving to France helped Thaulow expand his paintings to include French settings. He created the pieces The Battery and At Quimperle later in his career. Thaulow spent the last fourteen years of his life living in Paris and painting the French countryside as well as recreating memories from his home country. By combining elements of Realism and Impressionism in his landscapes, Thaulow created his own movement, and he’s responsible for introducing the Impressionist style to Norway." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Jehan Georges Vibert: A collection of 52 paintings (HD)

Jehan Georges Vibert: A collection of 52 paintings (HD) Description: "Jehan Georges Vibert is best known for his satirical depictions of ecclesiastical life. “The Marvelous Sauce”—a perennial favorite of museum visitors—portrays a Cardinal-turned-cook who astonishes a chef with his culinary endeavors. The Cardinal is recognizable from his distinctive scarlet regalia, but an apron partially sheaths it. Vibert often used such vibrant reds in his compositions to give them a sense of veracity. The wealth of the household and its owner, the Cardinal, is reflected in the large iron stove to the right, which is covered by a decorative hood with an aristocratic coat of arms, as well as the kitchen’s numerous brass cooking pots, abundance of food, and its elaborate, patterned floor. When considered in a broader historical context, the cheerfulness with a hint of cunning revealed in Vibert’s characters distinguishes his work as part of a growing democratization of France. This painting was created during a time when artists and writers alike sought to expose government corruption and the hypocrisies of upper-level clergy members, many of whom lived rather opulent lifestyles." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Lucian Freud: A collection of 43 sketches (HD)

Lucian Freud: A collection of 43 sketches (HD) Description: "Lucian Freud, in full Lucian Michael Freud (born December 8, 1922, Berlin, Germany—died July 20, 2011, London, England) British artist known for his work in portraiture and the nude. Sometimes called a realist, he painted in a highly individual style, which in his later years was characterized by impasto. The son of the architect Ernst Freud and a grandson of Sigmund Freud, he immigrated with his family to England in 1933, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1939. He was trained at the Central School of Art in London, where he was as much known for his unconventional behaviour as for his drawing talent, and at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing in Dedham. Freud turned to painting full-time after WWII. His Interior at Paddington (1951) exhibits many of his lifelong concerns—the human figure rendered in a realist manner and imbued with a stark and evocative psychological intensity. Freud’s many portraits of his friends and associates and of members of the British gentry extended a grand English tradition. His series of paintings and drawings of his mother, begun in 1970 and continuing until the day after her death in 1989, are particularly frank and dramatic studies of intimate life passages. Freud’s many studies of the nude make up a major part of his work. For 50 years he posed friends, neighbours, models, and family members in his studio, often as if strewn casually across dilapidated furniture, and confronted their nude flesh with both keen interest and a kind of clinical impassiveness. In this work he typically used a limited tonal range of creamy tans and browns. In studies such as Night Portrait (1985–86), Freud both highlighted and undercut the erotics of the female nude, opting out of the idealizing tendencies of much of the history of Western art. Beginning in the 1980s, Freud was increasingly drawn toward what could be called extreme body types. His work maintained the place of traditional subject matter in art while introducing personal and psychological attitudes that are fully modern." Feel free to subscribe!

Giovanni Segantini: A collection of 97 paintings (HD)

Giovanni Segantini: A collection of 97 paintings (HD) Description: "Italian painter. Born in 1858 in Arco, in the province of Trient, on the northern bank of Lake Garda, Giovanni Segantini attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Subsequently, he lived in the Brianza region, and then moved to Switzerland in 1886. He first settled with his family in Savognin, but from 1894 he was based in Maloja and Soglio. Segantini died of peritonitis in 1899, at the early age of 41, while working on the middle section of his Alpine Triptych, Nature, on the Schafberg high above Pontresina. Already during his lifetime, Segantini was celebrated through much of Europe as an innovator and prophet, as well as an important Symbolist painter. His early works, executed in Milan and Brianza, still bear testimony to the traditional Lombard style of painting. After moving the Alps, with its pure, clear air, the artist was able to develop a style which exuded radiance and at the same time went hand in hand with the evolution of the Divisionism painting technique and his progression towards Symbolism. At the end of the 19th century, Giovanni Segantini executed a panorama conveying an underlying universal truth; his impressive Alpine Triptych, Life - Nature - Death, was one of the last paintings of its kind in that era. The work - a large-dimensional portrayal of the life cycle - was intended for the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 and depicts human existence in harmony with nature. The landscapes and simple characters portrayed are woven into the eternal rhythm of the changing seasons. An exponent of Divisionism, Segantini was the only Italian painter of the late 19th century to have enjoyed an unbroken international reputation, especially in Germany and Austria." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Leonardo da Vinci: A collection of 119 sketches (HD)

11:34
Leonardo da Vinci: A collection of 119 sketches (HD) Description: "Da Vinci was one of the great creative minds of the Italian Renaissance, hugely influential as an artist and sculptor but also immensely talented as an engineer, scientist and inventor. Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452 near the Tuscan town of Vinci, the illegitimate son of a local lawyer. He was apprenticed to the sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence and in 1478 became an independent master. In about 1483, he moved to Milan to work for the ruling Sforza family as an engineer, sculptor, painter and architect. From 1495 to 1497 he produced a mural of 'The Last Supper' in the refectory of the Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. Da Vinci was in Milan until the city was invaded by the French in 1499 and the Sforza family forced to flee. He may have visited Venice before returning to Florence. During his time in Florence, he painted several portraits, but the only one that survives is the famous 'Mona Lisa' (1503-1506). In 1506, da Vinci returned to Milan, remaining there until 1513. This was followed by three years based in Rome. In 1517, at the invitation of the French king Francis I, Leonardo moved to the Château of Cloux, near Amboise in France, where he died on 2 May 1519. The fame of Da Vinci's surviving paintings has meant that he has been regarded primarily as an artist, but the thousands of surviving pages of his notebooks reveal the most eclectic and brilliant of minds. He wrote and drew on subjects including geology, anatomy (which he studied in order to paint the human form more accurately), flight, gravity and optics, often flitting from subject to subject on a single page, and writing in left-handed mirror script. He 'invented' the bicycle, airplane, helicopter, and parachute some 500 years ahead of their time. If all this work had been published in an intelligible form, da Vinci's place as a pioneering scientist would have been beyond dispute. Yet his true genius was not as a scientist or an artist, but as a combination of the two: an 'artist-engineer'. His painting was scientific, based on a deep understanding of the workings of the human body and the physics of light and shade. His science was expressed through art, and his drawings and diagrams show what he meant, and how he understood the world to work." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Dismissed by critics many times for his controversial subjects, he is now regarded as one of Australia's greatest artists. His works span numerous media that include pen drawings, etching, oil paintings, woodcuts, sculptures, editorials, and publishing. His affinity for the arts began to take shape at a very young age and his interests grew with him. He gained a more formal training and better experience to churn out works of incredible depth and technical prowess. His tremendous creative energy enabled him to work on multiple projects at a time. Through his work, he challenged many societal norms and invited the ire of many critics leading to many of his works being banned. Despite this, he was the highest paid Australian artist of the time. His literary works such as ‘Age of Consent’, ‘Halfway to Anywhere’, and ‘Dust or Polish’ have been adapted to the silver screen. Lindsay was not the only member of his family to dabble in the arts. His brothers, Percy, Lionel, and Ernest, sister Ruby, sons, Jack, Philip, and Raymond were all involved in the arts and inspired each other’s works." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Just As Soon Just As Soon by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100185 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Gustave Dore: A collection of 26 paintings (HD) Description: French illustrator and etcher, born in Strasbourg, dies in Paris. Famous for his printed illustrations of over 100 books, among which the Bible, fairy tales (by Perrault) the works of Dante (Divina Comedia), Lord Byron and Cervantes (Don Quixote). Art connoisseurs consider Doré a romantic exponent of the 19th century whose work is devoid of artistic value but whose importance lies in his contribution to the development of book illustration. For his bible illustrations Doré makes optimum use of contrast and chiaroscuro, often reaching quite mystical effects. His illustrated bible in folio format is a sensation from its moment of publication in 1865. Around 1870 Doré stays in London for a considerable time where a publisher invites him to sketch a portrait of the city in 180 prints (London, a pilgrimage). Doré does not manufacture all his engravings himself. In his studio his sketches are transferred onto plates. At one time he has a staff of 40 working to meet the demand. Feel free to subscribe!
