Maxfield Parrish: A collection of 55 paintings (HD)

Maxfield Parrish: A collection of 55 paintings (HD) Description: "During the Golden Age of Illustration, Maxfield Parrish's "beautiful settings and charming figures" enchanted the American public. His work includes immense murals in office buildings and hotels, magazine covers, and advertisements as well as his book illustrations. Many of his illustrations to children's books, still popular today, are the result of his struggle to make a living as an artist in his early years around the turn of the 20th century. He was born Frederick Parrish in 1870 in Philadelphia, but he took the name Maxfield after his Quaker grandmother. His father, Stephen, was also an artist and Parrish's greatest influence. He originally studied architecture, an interest that is evident in his paintings. He married his wife Lydia 1895. Daybreak, his arguably most famous picture, was created for the art print market. It is still popular to this day. In 1900, Parrish contracted tuberculosis, and then suffered a nervous breakdown. Around that time, he switched from illustrations to oil painting. His oil paintings became very popular, with their brilliant colors and magical luminosity, until well into the 1940s. To achieve these magical effects, he would apply numerous layers of thin, transparent oil, alternating with varnish over stretched paper, a painstaking process that achieved both high luminosity and extraordinary detail. The tuberculosis hung on and Parrish went to Arizona to convalesce in the dry heat there. While in Arizona, he was commissioned to do a series of landscapes. He began painting and traveling on commission and his career took off. Parrish worked at his home in Cornish, New Hampshire, called The Oaks. The Oaks was a popular destination for guests during the summers but in the frozen New Hampshire winters, Parrish dedicated himself to his painting. In 1905, Parrish's met Susan Lewin, a 16-year old girl hired as a nanny for his son Dillwyn. Her image appears often in paintings from this time through the 1920s. Over time, Susan became Parrish's assistant, model for his paintings, and eventually his lover. His wife, Lydia, and Maxfield grew increasingly estranged and she left him in 1911. Susan stayed with Maxfield for another 50 years. From the 1930s until 1960, when he stopped painting, Maxfield Parrish refocused his attention on the world around him, producing a series of calendar landscapes. Yet even these retain the magical, window-to-the-otherworld quality that permeates all of his work. Parrish died at 95 in 1966, at a time when his work was enjoying a renaissance of interest." Caravaggio: A collection of 79 paintings (HD)

Caravaggio: A collection of 79 paintings (HD) Description: "Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Italian painter with great influence both in Italy and abroad. Caravaggio is particularly renowned for his use of chiaroscuro, a technique that uses light and dark to achieve a 3-D effect. Caravaggio breaks away from the tradition of symmetrical figures and detailed backgrounds. His figures do retain a traditional monumentality. His later work is less plastic. Caravaggio takes his name from the village where he was born. He receives his first training in Milan, specializing in still-lives. Around 1592 he takes to Rome, the spiritual capital of the Italian peninsula, switching his subject matter to street-life and young boys. In 1595 Caravaggio's talent catches the eye of cardinal Francesco Del Monte, who subsequently becomes his first patron. Caravaggio's three paintings on the life of St Matthew cause a sensation: never before has a saint, let alone an apostle, been shown like this. (calling, inspiration, martyrdom) After this succès fou, Caravaggio takes all his subjects from the New Testament. Caravaggio's life is as turbulent as his personality. He has many run-ins with the law and is arrested on several occasions. In 1606 a bet over a game of tennis leads to an argument, at which point Caravaggio draws his sword and kills his opponent. He flees to Naples, intending to take the long way home to Rome - where friends are lobbying for his rehabilitation - via Malta and Sicily. On his wanderings he produces several masterpieces, such as The Beheading of St John the Baptist, which he creates in Malta. He dies before reaching Rome, probably of pneumonia, in Porto Ercole. Several days after his death word arrives of papal absolution. Caravaggio's influence is widespread: outside Italy he inspires painters as diverse asGeorges de La Tour and members of the Utrecht School, e.g. Gerrit van Honthorst – artists who in their turn are later to influence Rembrandt." Johannes Vermeer: A collection of 41 paintings (HD)

Johannes Vermeer: A collection of 41 paintings (HD) Description: "Johannes was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. Vermeer was a moderately successful provincial genre painter in his lifetime. He evidently was not wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death, perhaps because he produced relatively few paintings. Vermeer worked slowly and with great care, and frequently used very expensive pigments. He is particularly renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work. Vermeer painted mostly domestic interior scenes. "Almost all his paintings are apparently set in two smallish rooms in his house in Delft; they show the same furniture and decorations in various arrangements and they often portray the same people, mostly women." He was recognized during his lifetime in Delft and The Hague, but his modest celebrity gave way to obscurity after his death. He was barely mentioned in Arnold Houbraken's major source book on 17th-century Dutch painting (Grand Theatre of Dutch Painters and Women Artists), and was thus omitted from subsequent surveys of Dutch art for nearly two centuries. In the 19th century, Vermeer was rediscovered by Gustav Friedrich Waagen and Théophile Thoré-Bürger, who published an essay attributing 66 pictures to him, although only 34 paintings are universally attributed to him today. Since that time, Vermeer's reputation has grown, and he is now acknowledged as one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

John Singer Sargent: A collection of 32 sketches (HD)

John Singer Sargent: A collection of 32 sketches (HD) Description: "At the turn of the century, John Singer Sargent was the portrait artist for rulers and the upper-class in both Europe and the United States of America. Sargent's best portraits reveal the individuality and personality of his sitters; his admirers think he is second only to Velázquez. Although primarily known for his portraiture, Sargent experimented with many artistic styles, especially while travelling, a passion he indulged with sketchbook in hand. However, he never embraced the modern styles that became in vogue towards the end of his career, and for this he was criticized. His personal life is not as colorful as some of the more well-known artists. Sargent was, quite simply, a private man who worked hard and was extremely good at what he did, with a uniformity of excellence that shocks even some of his critics." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Ambiment - The Ambient Ambiment - The Ambient by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100630 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Vilhelm Hammershoi: A collection of 120 paintings (HD)

10:15
Vilhelm Hammershoi: A collection of 120 paintings (HD) Description: "Danish painter, Vilhelm Hammershoi is best known for his genre-painting consisting of quiet interiors, in muted colours/tones of blue and grey, containing isolated figures that have their back turned to the viewer. His rooms are sparsely furnished, suggesting a quiet melancholy or introspection. Although Hammershoi is considered to be an exponent of Symbolism, there is equal argument for suggesting that he was simply interested in portraying beauty in the ordinary, rather than making any complex statements. His art has a mystical, timeless quality about it, but it also enables the viewer to take a nostalgic journey into the past. Influenced by the composition and tonal variations of Dutch Realist genre painting from the likes of Jan Vermeer, and also by the American Post-Impressionist James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Hammershoi's most familiar subject is his wife, painted in their tidy apartment. He also produced a number of landscapes, but these are considered of less importance. His reputation is undergoing something of a revival, and he is now considered to be one of the best genre painters from Scandinavia." Feel free to subscribe!

Edward Seago: A collection of 77 paintings (HD)

Edward Seago: A collection of 77 paintings (HD) Description: "Edward Seago enjoyed the position as one of the most popular British artists of the 20th century. He began painting at the age of seven when he was confined to his room with a heart condition. Later, fully recovered, he would study with Bernard Priestman. He became a successful illustrator in the 1930's, working for, among others, England's poet laureate of the sea, John Masefield. After serving with the royal engineers in WWII, he would spend the remainder of his life painting and writing. He was an avid sailor which is evident in the accuracy and flavor of his sea paintings. Exhibiting widely, his famous one man shows at Colnaghi's would usually sell out on the first day. People were known to line up by 6 am to secure the painting of their choice. Examination of Seago's work shows the influence of the Dutch 17th century school and British artists such as John Constable. His two greatest influences however were the French impressionist Eugene Boudin and American painter James McNeil Whistler." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your support!

Fritz Thaulow: A collection of 157 paintings (HD)

15:10
Fritz Thaulow: A collection of 157 paintings (HD) Description: "Norwegian painter Frits Thaulow was born in 1847 and traveled throughout Europe. Though famous for his landscape painting, he is also known for combining Realism and Impressionism in his work. Born in a small town in Norway, Frits Thaulow was the son of a wealthy chemist. His father’s money gave him the chance to work with some of the leading artists of his time. Thaulow worked with several tutors and painters to perfect his art. Early in his career, Thaulow studied maritime art and planned to work in the field, but he later found himself interested in landscape art. After traveling between Norway and France for several years, Thaulow made the permanent move to France, where he lived and worked for the last few years of his life. Thaulow moved to Paris early in his career and worked on a number of paintings. Though Realism was popular in Norway, Paris was the center of the Impressionist movement. When he attempted to paint Impressionist landscapes, he found himself incorporating realistic elements from his childhood. Art historians now often regard the artist’s work as a combination of Realist and Impressionist elements. Those elements are clear inHorses Watering at the Bridge at Montreiul sur Mer. The interesting lines and pale color choices are clearly the work of an Impressionist, while the realistic look of the horses and the houses on the shore fall into the Realism movement. Another of his famous pieces is Summer Landscape with a Bridge at Beaulieu, which centered on a small creek. In 1880, Thaulow left Paris and returned to Norway, where he lived for more than a decade. While in France, he learned many Impressionist techniques that he later brought to his home country. Thaulow often focused on the landscapes and cities near his hometown. He completed a series of paintings of skiers on the slopes of a small town before moving back to Paris. Moving to France helped Thaulow expand his paintings to include French settings. He created the pieces The Battery and At Quimperle later in his career. Thaulow spent the last fourteen years of his life living in Paris and painting the French countryside as well as recreating memories from his home country. By combining elements of Realism and Impressionism in his landscapes, Thaulow created his own movement, and he’s responsible for introducing the Impressionist style to Norway." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Gustav Klimt: A collection of 112 paintings (HD)

09:35
Gustav Klimt: A collection of 112 paintings (HD) Description: "An influential painter and the founder of the Vienna Secession art movement, Gustav Klimt dominated the art scene in the 19th century Austria. Till date, his art works demand high respect and are widely revered in the art circles. Klimt chose to go off the beaten track of conventional and traditional academic art and adopted the new trend in European modern art. He is known for his decorative art, a genre that most of his contemporaries chose not to adopt. He was the most renowned proponent of Art Nouveau, a genre of art that was inspired by natural forms and structures. One of the most celebrated artists of the 19thcentury, Klimt’s paintings portrayed women in sensual and erotic tones. It was the presence of erotic appeal in his paintings that is accountable for his being enlisted in the list of most controversial artists of his time. Gustav Klimt’s work were constantly criticised for their sexual elements, due to which he had to submit some of his works to religious authorities before exhibiting them. Some of best known paintings include, ‘Old Burgtheater in Vienna’, ‘The Kiss’ ‘Portrait of Baroness Elisabeth Bachofen-Echt’ and ‘Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I’." Feel free to subscribe!

John Martin: A collection of 37 paintings (HD)

04:07
John Martin: A collection of 37 paintings (HD) Description: "English Romantic painter and mezzotint engraver, celebrated for his melodramatic scenes of cataclysmic events crowded with tiny figures placed in vast architectural settings. He caught the public imagination with spectacular paintings such as Joshua Commanding the Sun to Stand Still (United Grand Lodge of Great Britain, London, 1816), the work that made him famous, and in 1821 Lawrence referred to him as 'the most popular painter of the day'. His work was indeed truly popular, for he made his living mainly through the sale of engravings of his pictures rather than the paintings themselves. He became famous in France as well as Britain, he was knighted by Leopold I of Belgium (1833), and his influence was felt by American artists such as Cole. However, while he pleased a vast audience and was regarded by some admirers as one of the greatest geniuses who ever lived, Martin was reviled by Ruskin and other critics, who considered his work vulgar sensationalism. Few artists, indeed, have been subject to such extremes of critical fortune, and his fame sank to such an astonishing degree after his death that very large and once famous paintings by him were sold in the 1930s for as little as £ 2. In the 1970s his reputation greatly revived. Martin made mezzotints not only as a means of reproducing his paintings but also as original compositions. Particularly noteworthy are his illustrations to the Bible and John Milton's Paradise Lost, which show that although he had great weaknesses as an artist, especially in his drawing of the human figure, he also had a vividness and grandiloquence of imagination not unworthy of such elevated subjects. He is sometimes called 'Mad Martin', but the sobriquet is undeserved and applies more to his brother Jonathan, who was insane and set fire to York Minster. John Martin was eminently sane and in the 1830s almost bankrupted himself with extremely ambitious but entirely practical plans for improving the water supply and sewage system of London. They were unsuccessful, but reveal a heroic desire to put the architectural visions of his paintings into a concrete form. His work is best represented in the Tate Gallery, London, and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Long Note Three Long Note Three by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100424 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters BOOKS about 'John Martin' available on AMAZON.com: - 'John Martin' by Martin Myrone --- http://amzn.to/2vzf7pr - 'John Martin' by Christopher Johnstone --- http://amzn.to/2vveoqX - 'John Martin: Apocalypse Now!' by Barbara C Morden --- http://amzn.to/2w1u4Us --- Thank you so much for your support!

Arnold Bocklin: A collection of 143 paintings (HD)

Arnold Bocklin: A collection of 143 paintings (HD) Description: "Arnold Böcklin, (born October 16, 1827, Basel, Switzerland—died January 16, 1901, Fiesole, Italy) painter whose moody landscapes and sinister allegories greatly influenced late 19th-century German artists and presaged the symbolism of the 20th-century Metaphysical and Surrealist artists.Although he studied and worked throughout much of northern Europe—Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Brussels, and Paris—Böcklin found his real inspiration in the landscape of Italy, where he returned from time to time and where the last years of his life were spent. Böcklin first won a reputation with the large mural Pan in the Bulrushes (c. 1857), which brought him the patronage of the king of Bavaria. From 1858 to 1861, he taught at the Weimar Art School, but his nostalgia for the Italian landscape pursued him. After an interval during which he completed his mythological frescoes for the decoration of the Public Art Collection (Öffentliche Kunstsammlung), Basel, he settled in Italy and only occasionally returned to Germany, and then to experiment with flying machines. During his last two decades, Böcklin’s work became increasingly subjective, often showing fabulous creatures or being based on dark allegorical themes, as in Island of the Dead (1880), which provided the inspiration for the symphonic poem The Isle of the Dead by the Russian composer Sergey Rachmaninoff. Such spectral scenes as his Odysseus and Calypso (1883) and The Pest (1898) reveal the morbid symbolism that anticipated the so-called Freudian imagery of much 20th-century art. Arseny Meshchersky: A collection of 115 paintings (HD)

Arseny Meshchersky: A collection of 115 paintings (HD) Description: "His parentage is not known for certain but, based on certain references in family records to a young boy with artistic talents, it is believed that he was one of the noble Meshcherskys or, at least, that he was raised as one of them. By 1854, when he was only twenty, he appears to have received a thorough artistic training. At that time, he was enrolled at the Imperial Academy of Arts where he studied with Fyodor Bruni, Sokrat Vorobiev and Timofey Neff. The following year, he participated in his first academic exhibition. Then suddenly, in 1857, he dropped out of the Academy and moved to Switzerland (at his own expense or that of a patron) to improve his painting skills by studying with the landscape painter Alexander Kalam (1810-1864). Two years later, he exhibited at the Academy, winning a gold medal, the title of Artist First-Class and a stipend that allowed him to travel at government expense. In 1864 he returned home, although he continued to travel extensively and, three years later, he was chosen to be part of the entourage accompanying Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich on his voyage around the world. In 1876, he was named a Professor at the Academy. In 1879, he became ill with pneumonia and developed complications, hovering close to death for almost two months. He recovered, but suffered from breathing difficulties for the rest of his life, especially in the winter. In 1886, he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, Third Degree. He once again began to travel, visiting Turkey, Greece, Italy and Switzerland over the course of the next twelve years. In mid-November 1902, the newspaper Новое время (New Times) published an obituary (between advertisements for soap and gloves) noting that "Arseny Meshchersky, Professor of landscape painting, who once enjoyed great popularity...", had died from an attack of "asthma"." --- MUSIC: Chris Zabriskie - Laserdisc Laserdisc by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://chriszabriskie.com/honor/ Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Frida Kahlo: A collection of 100 paintings (HD) Description: "Frida Kahlo's work was influenced by traumatic physical and psychological events from her childhood and early adulthood, including a crippling accident and the infidelity of her husband. In addition to personal issues, Kahlo's often brooding and introspective subject matter also deals with questions of national identity. Her mixed ancestry - Mexican and German - provided a rich source of ideas, particularly during the Second World War, when Kahlo changed the spelling of her first name to one that was less Germanic. Her works are often categorized as Surrealist because of her sometimes bizarre and disturbing themes, but unlike the Surrealists, Kahlo was not interested in dreams or the subconscious - her art was almost always starkly autobiographical. In later life, she was forced to rely on painkillers that affected the quality of her output. She has now become a cultural icon and is especially revered in her home country for her focus on her Mexican identity, or Mexicanidad." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your help!

Henri Harpignies: A collection of 115 works (HD) Description: "Henri Joseph Harpignies was a French landscape painter and member of the Barbizon School of artists. Harpignies’ work was deeply influenced and similar to the paintings of his friend Camille Corot, another Barbizon member. His landscapes have a wispy yet exacting descriptive power, and often feature rows of trees and country roads. Born on June 28, 1819 in Valenciennes, France, he rebelled against his parents’ wishes to pursue a business career and began to seriously study painting at the age of 27. He had lasting success exhibiting in the Parisian Salons from 1861 onward, with his work now appearing in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the National Gallery in London, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others. Harpignies died on August on 26, 1916 in Saint-Privé, France. He quickly gained a reputation as a bohemian artist, a role he relished and cultivated; his anarchic proclamations, rebellious nature, and insistent nonconformity to rules became a model for other progressives in the city. He studied briefly at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), but dropped out because “they had nothing to teach him.” Despite his years of art school training, he insisted that he was his own teacher, relying on his imagination and suspicious of any authority. He stayed in Chicago for eleven years before returning to Poland in 1924 with much of his work, most of which was destroyed by allied bombs during World War II. In many ways, Szukalski embodied modernism in Chicago, combining its admiration for polished technique and readable, figural imagery with a rebellion against authority and attacks on the sacred cows of art history and pedagogy. It is easy to understand his appeal to both young artists and to the traditional academy. In fact, he was given two solo exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, in 1916 and 1917, as well as one at the progressive Arts Club in 1919; he exhibited regularly in the juried annuals at the Art Institute as well. He was often praised by conservative critics who appreciated his refined workmanship, understanding that his life was far more radical than his art. In addition to painting, drawing, and sculpture, Szukalski wrote a number of books in which he set out his philosophy of individual expression, freedom from authority, and the primacy of the imagination, often citing the importance of drawing on one’s primitive ethnic identity for authentic expression. Settling in California when he returned to the United States, he continued to make art and promote himself relentlessly, writing a number of books that become increasingly shrill. He had a number of loyal admirers who continue to promote his work. Much of Szukalski’s work is highly imaginative, using some of the methods that would later be employed by the Surrealists, such as distortions of size and shape and unusual juxtapositions of objects. In the portrait of Rudolph Weisenborn, however, Szukalski’s virtuoso technique is evident in a straightforward representation of his artist friend. Weisenborn’s head is placed to the right side of the composition, leaving a large empty space on the left, a compositional device that Weisenborn himself adopted in the numerous portrait drawings that he produced in the 1920s. According to contemporary reports, Szukalski “forced Weisenborn to sit for him in a cold room from 2 a.m. till morning and Weisenborn loved the completed picture.” Weisenborn is represented in the guise of a monk, presumably to suggest his role as the visionary artist who will aid, in Szukalski’s words, in the “making of a new civilization.” It is fortunate that the drawing remained with Weisenborn and escaped the fate of the rest of Szukalski’s two-dimensional oeuvre, all of which was destroyed in World War II. Raphael: A collection of 65 sketches & etchings (HD)

Raphael: A collection of 65 sketches & etchings (HD) Description: "Raphael, born Raffaello Sanzio, was crowned the "Prince of Painters" by Giorgio Vasari, a sixteenth-century biographer of artists. From his father, Raphael learned painting; in his native Urbino, he experienced intellectual court life. A year after his father's sudden death, Raphael entered the workshop of Urbino's leading painter at age twelve and quickly surpassed his master. By the age of twenty-one, Raphael had moved to Florence, where he embraced the works of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. In Florence, his many paintings of the Madonna and Child display his characteristic human warmth, serenity, and sublimely perfect figures. Raphael's art epitomized the High Renaissance qualities of harmony and ideal beauty. In four years Raphael's fame led to a summons to Rome from Pope Julius II. As painter to the papal court, his work met with high praise, and he established himself as the most favored artist in Rome. He was commissioned to paint portraits, devotional subjects, and the Pope's private rooms; he also designed tapestries. Raphael was soon placed in charge of all papal projects involving architecture, paintings, decoration, and the preservation of antiquities. His untimely death at the age of thirty-seven, Vasari said, "plunged into grief the entire papal court"; the Pope, who "wept bitterly when he died, had intended making him a Cardinal." Jean Georges Béraud: A collection of 160 paintings (HD) Description: "One of several highly talented Russian artists involved in the 19th century Wanderers (Itinerants) movement, Abram Yefimovich Arkhipov made his name in Russian art through his development of the "eventless genre", as illustrated by his masterpiece Visiting (1915, Russian Museum St Petersburg); and also through his depiction of working class conditions, as in his famous composition The Washer-Women (Laundresses) (1899, Russian Museum, St Petersburg), and Labourers at the Iron Foundry (1896, Tretyakov). In his focus on ordinary workers and on themes from peasant life - see also Along the River Oka (1890, Tretyakov) - Arkhipov was following in the tradition of other great exponents of genre painting like Ilya Repin (1844-1930) and Konstantin Savitsky (1844-1905). Seen by many as one of the best genre painters of his day, Arkhipov's works were also collected by the philanthropist Pavel Tretyakov." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Bruce Crane: A collection of 88 paintings (HD)

09:14
Bruce Crane: A collection of 88 paintings (HD) Description: "Bruce Crane was one of America’s best-known Tonalists, adapting the style of the Barbizon School to the American tradition. Born in New York City, Crane began his painting career by seeking out the instruction of Alexander Wyant, who took him to paint in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains. Wyant’s moody, tonal style had a profound influence on Crane’s work, but he quickly abandoned Wyant’s favored wilderness for more picturesque subjects. Concentrating on open pastures, barnyards, and hayfields, Crane responded to nature’s quiet poetry and delicacy of tone. Crane journeyed to Europe in 1880, spending time in Paris and Grez-Sur-Loing, a pastoral artist’s colony. There, he gained direct exposure to the French Barbizon aesthetic, which introduced an increasingly atmospheric element into his work. When he returned to New York the following year, Crane set out for his favorite painting haunts in the Adirondack woods, Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut, creating pastoral landscapes that carried the golden haze of summer or grey light of fall. Crane’s work was admired by critics and patrons throughout the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. His paintings were continually on view at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Boston Art Club, and the Corcoran Gallery, and he earned numerous honors over the course of his career, winning prizes from the National Academy of Design, the Society of American Artists, the Carnegie Institute, the Salmagundi Club, the Paris Exposition of 1900, and the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. His paintings are now in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Peder Mørk Mønsted: A collection of 284 paintings (HD) Description: "Peder Mønsted was born in Balle Mölle, near Grenna in eastern Denmark on 10th December 1859. He studied at the Prince Ferdinand’s Drawing School, Aarhus where he studied under Andries Fritz (1828-1906), a landscape and portrait painter, before moving to Copenhagen. Here he studied at the Royal Academy of Art between 1875 and 1878, and was taught figure painting by Julius Exner (1825-1910). Here too he would have come across the work of artists such as Christen Kobke (1810-1848), an outstanding colourist and Peter Christian Skovgaard (1817-1875), a romantic nationalist painter, a knowledge of whose work is seen in the Danish landscapes and beech forests of Mønsted’s. As early as 1874, at the age of 15, he took part in the December Exhibition in Copenhagen. In 1878 Mønsted left the Academy to study under the artist Peder Severin Krøyer (1851-1909). Mønsted travelled extensively throughout his long career, being a frequent visitor to Switzerland, Italy and North Africa. In 1883 Mønsted travelled to Paris where he worked with William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) for four months. As early as 1884, he visited North Africa returning later in the decade. The early years of the 20th century saw Mønsted returning to Switzerland, the south of France and Italy, the latter being the source of inspiration for many Scandinavian artists of the 19th century. The war years curtailed Mønsted’s travel to Norway and Sweden, however the 1920’s and 1930’s saw him return to the Mediterranean. From 1879 to 1941 he exhibited regularly at the annual Charlottenborg Exhibition. Throughout his long career, Mønsted continued to paint the Danish landscape and coastline. His is a romantic, poetic view of nature; he was an artist who depicted the grandeur and monumental aspect of the landscape, with a remarkable eye for detail and colour. He was also known for a number of portraits, including that of King George I of Greece. Richard Diebenkorn: A collection of 90 paintings (HD)

09:26
Richard Diebenkorn: A collection of 90 paintings (HD) Description: "Richard Diebenkorn maintained his love of vivid color and structured composition in both his abstract and representational works. Born in Portland, Oregon in 1922, Diebenkorn moved with his family to San Francisco in 1924. After attending Stanford University from 1940 to 1942, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he concentrated on art classes. In the winter of 1944, when he was stationed in Virginia, he frequently visited The Phillips Collection, where he was inspired by the paintings of Henri Matisse and Paul Cezanne. He particularly admired Matisse’s technique of structuring space through planes of color, merging indoor and outdoor space. Returning to San Francisco in 1946, Diebenkorn enrolled at the California School of Fine Arts, where he studied with David Park, an expressionist artist from the Bay Area. Awarded a fellowship the same year, he moved East, living and working in Woodstock, New York, visiting New York City, and making many contacts. After returning to San Francisco, where he defined himself as a leading Bay Area artist, he was appointed to the faculty at the California School of Fine Arts in 1947, a position he held for two years; his fellow teachers included Elmer Bischoff, Edward Corbett, Hassel Smith, and Clyfford Still. Diebenkorn had his first one-person show in 1948 at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. After receiving a degree from Stanford University in 1949, he was awarded an M.F.A. from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1951. He briefly taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana 1952-53, settling shortly thereafter in Berkeley, California. Diebenkorn often titled his works after places that provided him with inspiration, such as his Berkeley paintings. Throughout the 1940s and early 1950s, Diebenkorn followed a distinctive abstract vocabulary of forms, stylistically rooted in the New York School, placing him firmly within the ethos of American modernism. However, in 1955 he shifted from abstraction to a more representational mode, making reference to observed subjects. Until 1967, when he returned to abstraction, Diebenkorn executed still-lifes, landscapes and interior figure paintings that present his finely tuned sense of color and structure. From 1955 to 1973 Diebenkorn taught at several California arts institutions, including a position at UCLA (1967) while he worked in a studio in the Ocean Park district of Santa Monica. There he created his last representational works, but returned to abstraction with his Ocean Park paintings. This series is characterized by broadly brushed surfaces of luminescent and atmospheric color, affirming the artist’s continuing concern with formal issues. These abstract brilliantly colored works—both paintings and drawings—elicited great acclaim, and The Phillips Collection owns three works from this series. Diebenkorn remained a prolific artist until his death in Berkeley, California, in 1993." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

He came from a humble background and by the age of 11 was taking lessons at the Académie in Lille from the sculptor Augustin-Phidias Cadet de Beaupré (b. 1800) who taught him to sketch. At 15 he began a two-year apprenticeship in the studio of one of David's former pupils, François Souchon (1787-1857), whose name he still referred to several years later when he exhibited at the Salon. In 1853 he moved to Paris. He copied in the Louvre where he must have met Henri Fantin-Latour, then taking life classes at the Académie Suisse (1859-60). He exhibited at the Salon for the first time in 1859. His first period in Paris, from 1853 to 1862 (interspersed with visits to Lille, where he received portrait commissions and an annuity in 1861), shows the influence of Gustave Courbet, whose After Dinner at Ornans (1849) he had been able to see in the Musée des Beaux-Arts at Lille. Thanks to Fantin-Latour or Zacharie Astruc, whom he had known in Lille, he soon befriended Courbet, Manet and the Realist artists, painting their portraits with a serious Realism full of concentrated energy: Fantin-Latour and Oulevay (1861), Zacharie Astruc (c. 1860-61; both Paris, Musée d'Orsay) and Claude Monet (1867; Paris, Musée Marmottan). In 1889, he was made a commander of the Legion of Honour. In 1890, he participated in the creation of the National Society of French Art (Société Nationale des Beaux Arts). He became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1904, and in the next year, was appointed director of the French Academy in Rome to succeed Eugène Guillaume. Anders Zorn: A collection of 120 paintings (HD) Description: One of the most prominent artists Sweden has ever produced, Anders Zorn was a painter and sculptor best known for his nude studies and portraits. Considered to be among the most talented painters of the late 19th century, his paintings were characterized by certain expressiveness that is hard to convey in words. He possessed the ability to capture the character and personality of the subjects he painted on his canvas, such was the scale of his artistic abilities. Though best known for his nudes, he was equally skilled at painting portraits, especially of the common, working class. Born as the illegitimate son of a working class woman, life was not particularly easy for the young Anders. He had never met his father though the man had acknowledged him as his son and given him his name. From a young age Anders was fascinated by all forms of art and displayed artistic abilities. Through his determination and sheer hard work he rose from his humble beginnings to become one of the most famous artists to have been born in Sweden. His rags to riches story culminated in a fairy-tale ending when he met and fell in love with a beautiful girl from a wealthy family. The ensuing marriage to his lady love proved lucky for him and he went on to achieve international fame as an artist. Feel free to subscribe!

Jean Michel Basquiat: A collection of 135 works (HD) Description: "Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American graffiti artist who rose to prominence in the 1980s for being one of the leading lights of the neo expressionist era of the time. His father was employed as an accountant and although he had taught himself to read and write as a child, he did not do as well as he would have liked at school. He dropped out of school and instead studied at a school of alternative education where he learnt art. Although his father had forced him to leave the house after quitting school, he started selling T-shirts in order to take care of his expenses and after a few years he partnered with a friend to create SAMO, a group that painted graffiti in buildings in New York. His work as a graffiti artist got him noticed as an up and coming artist and it was the same work that got him work with a T-shirt company. He even had his own musical band that performed at particular nightclubs but it was as a painter that he made his mark in the 1980s and his work found a lot of buyers due to the high demand of new expressionist art." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Dreams Become Real Dreams Become Real by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1500027 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Andrew Wyeth: A collection of 108 paintings (HD) Description: "Andrew Newell Wyeth was an American visual artist and realist painter. He will be remembered for his creations of paintings like ‘Christina’s World’ and ‘Winter 1946’. Trained by his artist father N.C. Wyeth, he achieved an important place in the field of art in the United States. As an artist, his first solo exhibition in New York attracted public attention when all of his paintings were sold there. After losing his father in an accident, he expressed his grief for his father by shifting his paintings from realism to abstract expressionism. He expressed his sincere grief for the death of his father by portraying barren lands and single figure. Some of his well known paintings include ‘Roasted Chestnuts’ and his self portrait titled ‘Trodden Weed’. All of his painting works represent a perfect amalgamation of beauty, emotion and symbolism. His usage of light and shadow is truly thought provoking. Moreover, all of his paintings prove his expertise in using the technique of egg tempera. Through the creation of paintings like ‘Ravens Grove’, ‘Night Sleeper’ and ‘Pentecost’, he attempted to interpret various moods of light. As the recipient of several prestigious awards, he was the first living American artist whom Britain’s Royal Academy elected as its member." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Earth Prelude Earth Prelude by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100247 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters --- Thank you so much for your help!

Melville was born at Loanhead-of-Guthrie in Angus, and raised in East Linton near Edinburgh. He spent much of his life travelling around the world, including time spent in France, Spain, Egypt, Morocco, and the Middle East. His travels inspired spectacular watercolours and paintings. When not travelling, Melville was based mainly in Edinburgh. Fisk was part of the Boston School of painters in the early 20th century. She was the first woman appointed to the Massachusetts State Art Commission in 1929. Fiske was born in Boston and was the daughter of a prominent local lawyer. Fiske enrolled at the Boston Museum School sometime around 1904 where she studied with Edmund C. Tarbell, Frank Benson and Philip Hale. She also studied with Charles H. Woodbury in Ogunquit, Maine, and incorporated his recommendation to "paint in verbs not in nouns." Her early work was greatly influenced by this aesthetic, but she later moved in other directions. Fiske was a co-founder of the Guild of Boston Artists in 1914 and of the Boston Society of Etchers in 1917. Fiske was a well-established painter by the mid 1920s. In 1928 she was also a co-founder of the Ogunquit Art Association. During the Great Depression, Fiske maintained her full membership in the National Academy of Design. Fiske was known for her strong depictions of women in traditional scenes, such as women in interiors, with power, instead of gentility and fragility. She included both men and women in her compositions, used bold colors, and was well respected for her likeness of male artists. She often portrayed distinctive New England characters (including florists, craftsmen, postmen, fishermen and clerics), in a style popular throughout the 1920s. Fiske also painted landscapes, including of Revere Beach, a stone quarry in Weston, MA, and the Navy Yard in Portsmouth, NH. Later works included the introduction and adoption of modern technologies such as the telephone and automobile. Selected compositions include The Window (1916), The Carpenter (about 1922), Sunday Afternoon (about 1925), and Jade (about 1930). Her sense of composition was considered "harmonious" and "warm." The Carpenter won the Thomas B. Clarke prize from the National Academy of Design. Fiske's works have been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, the Corcoran Gallery, Cleveland Museum of Art, the Farnsworth Museum, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Guild of Boston Artists. Prizes include the Shaw price for women artists (twice), the best figure composition (twice), the Proctor prize for portraiture from the National Academy of Design. The artwork of Gertrude Fiske was the subject of the exhibition Gertrude Fiske: American Master, April to September 2018 at Discover Portsmouth, Portsmouth, NH. The show was organized by the Portsmouth Historical Society and curated by Lainey McCartney. Fiske, says McCartney, “challenged established stereotypes for women with her extraordinary talent, dignity, and work ethic. Painting during a time when conservative traditions and social roles were firmly set for women, Fiske forged her own path.” Fisk died in 1961 in Weston, Massachusetts." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Blue Paint - Atlantean Twilight Blue Paint - Atlantean Twilight by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100566 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learnfrommasters/ Contact: [email protected] LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #AmericanPainter #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory #GertrudeFiske #TASCHEN

Briton Riviere: A collection of 66 paintings (HD)

Briton Rivière: A collection of 66 paintings (HD) Description: "Briton Rivière RA (1840-1920) was an English painter; the surname indicates his descent from a Huguenot family which settled in England in the 17th Century. The family included several painters, and so Briton Rivière was introduced to art at a young age. He studied drawing and painting at Oxford, where, incidentally, his father William Rivière had persuaded the University to introduce the study of art for undergraduates. Though he exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1858, Rivière's first real success came only in 1869, with his picture The Long Sleep, showing an old man dead in his chair, watched by his two dogs. This sort of picture was ideally suited to attract the Victorian art lover, and Prisoners (1869) and Charity (1870) were also gloomy enough to win high praise. He began to exhibit Classical paintings from 1871, with Circe and the Friends of Ulysses producing an instant success: It was the picture which for ever fixed the place of this artist in public estimation; he may have been known and valued in the ranks of his brother painters before the wonderful pigs were produced, but it was the picture of its year and has never - being admirably engraved - been forgotten in public favour. (Magazine of Art) Daniel in 1872, Argus in the following year and the well-received Apollo of 1874 were further pictures in the same genre. Despite these Classical pictures, Rivière did not neglect the pathetic, with a domestic drama called Come Back in 1871, All that was left of the Homeward Bound (1873) showing a shipwrecked girl clinging to a plank in the sea with, typically, a dog for company, and in 1875 War Time and The Last of the Garrison. Rivière continued to produced a mix of contemporary genre, classical and animal subjects, building besides a reputation as a fine colourist. He became ARA in 1878 and RA in 1881, his Diploma painting being an animal picture, The King Drinks. Rivière's wife, nee Mary Alice Dobell, was also a painter. One of Rivière's most powerful pictures on a classical theme, Prometheus, is in the Ashmolean Museum, and a small animal subject, Tick Tack, showing a puppy investigating a clock, is in the Russell-Cotes Museum. Fidelity (1869), another sentimental dog, is in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight. Saturnino Herran: A collection of 53 works (HD)

Saturnino Herrán: A collection of 53 works (HD) Description: "Saturnino Herrán (b. 9 July 1887; d. 8 October 1918), Mexican artist. Born in Aguascalientes, Herrán was one of the pioneers of the modern Mexican movement and is known primarily for a mural project for the National Theater, Our Gods, for which he did numerous studies from 1914 to 1918. It was never completed, but his focus on issues of Mexican identity have assured him a place in the history of Mexican art. He emphasized the dual nature of Mexican identity by using the Aztec earth goddess Coatlicue as the central motif, on which he superimposed an image of the crucified Christ. The Aztec deity symbolizes the indigenous character of Mexico and the Christ figure its European aspect. Figures making offerings are shown on each side of the central motif, Indians on the left and Spaniards on the right. Easel paintings by Herrán on Mexican subjects (people at work, fiestas, traditions, and history) inspired the artists of the Mexican School of the 1920s through 1940s. In portraits and a series of paintings he called "the creoles," he used distinctive colonial churches in the background to identify the sitters as Mexican and the location as Mexico. Each of the criollas portrays a beautiful woman as a symbol of Mexico. In his early paintings of 1912 and 1914, Herrán placed elderly figures in thematic contexts that emphasized their hopeless condition, exhausted by a life of toil and suffering. In his later works of 1917, the elderly figures have a serenity and peace that reflects a spirituality or intense religiosity." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Helene Schjerfbeck: A collection of 130 paintings (HD)

Helene Schjerfbeck: A collection of 130 paintings (HD) Description: "The Finnish artist Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) painted mainly works depicting herself, other women, children, & the home. Born in Helsinki, she began her training at the Finnish Fine Art Association's Drawing School as a precocious 11-year-old. Periods of study in Paris during the 1880s gave her the chance to see the works of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898), Edouard Manet (1832-1883), Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), & Jules Bastien-Lepage (1848-1884). During the decade, she also traveled to Florence, St Petersburg, Vienna, & Great Britain. At the Paris Exhibition of 1889, the 27-year old artist was awarded a bronze medal for her painting ‘Le Convalescent’, which shows Impressionist influence. A Finnish grant had first allowed her to travel to Paris in 1880. There she studied with Léon Bonnat & Jean-Léon Gérôme at Madame Trélat de Vigny's painting studio for ladies. In 1881, she went to the private Académie Colarossi, where she was taught by Raphael Colin (1850-1916) & Gustave Courtois (1852-1924), who called her "une de mes meilleures élèves" in a letter of recommendation characterizing her as "très laborieuse" & as one of the most talented students, "certainement une des mieux douées." Until 1890, she returned frequently to Paris; & in 1884, she had her own studio there, which she longed for again as she aged. Between 1881 & 1884, she journeyed to Pont-Aven & Concarneau in Brittany with fellow female painters Marianne Preindelsberger (1855-1927) & Maria Wiik (1853-1928). Pont-Aven had attracted artists as early as the 1860s. The 3 Finnish women artists were there before Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), who arrived in Brittany in July 1886. It became a trendy venue for plein air painters from the late 1880s through early 1890s. In Brittany, Schjerfbeck met an English artist, to whom she was briefly engaged. But when the relationship ended, she traveled to St. Ives in Cornwall. In the 1890s she simplified her style, eliminating background detail and reducing her palette. These stylistic changes are seen in many of the portraits she painted of herself, her mother, and others.Schjerfbeck’s work shows a highly individual development, transforming gradually from melancholy, late 19th-century academic Realism to her own very personal style tending towards abstract Expressionism displaying perfectly balanced colors. From about 1902 her delicate health began to deteriorate (although she lived into her 80s); and she adopted a solitary life living with her mother at Hyvinkaa, almost forgotten, developing a much more simplified style. During this early period alone, her work was dominated by domestic scenes, featuring women and children engaged in reading or embroidery. As details gradually disappeared from her paintings, they gained increasing depth, approaching an abstract technique which was far ahead of her time. After this interval of semi-obscurity, Schjerfbeck made a second breakthrough in 1917 with her first solo exhibition, mounted by the art dealer Gösta Stenman in Helsinki. Besides early works, it included recent paintings which, like works of earlier artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, were apparently inspired by Japanese masters. After her work was exhibited in 1937, she was recognized as one of the pioneers of modernism in Finland." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Newell Convers Wyeth: A collection of 80 paintings (HD)

Newell Convers Wyeth: A collection of 80 paintings (HD) Description: "NEWELL CONVERS WYETH (1882-1945) had a huge zest for life. He carried this enthusiasm through a tremendous number of paintings, more than 3,000 illustrations, numerous vast murals, and a great many still life and landscape paintings. Howard Pyle was his teacher and idol. Wyeth emulated Pyle's approach as nearly as possible, painting much of the same kind of subject matter; medieval life, pirates, Americana. To this he added his own dramatic picture concepts and rich, decorative color. Outstanding in this phase of his work were the more than twenty-five books he illustrated for Chrles Scribner's Sons Classic series. The popularity of these books is such that, even after decades, most of them are still in print. After painting in oils for many years, Wyeth turned to the egg tempera medium and also began to paint more for exhibitions. He encouraged an interest in the arts in his children, giving them every opportunity for self expression. His daughters Henriette and Caroline, are both accomplished painters; Ann, a composer, and his son, Andrew, is a famous painter. His grandson, Jamie, is also an excellent painter in his own right. The October, 1965, issue of American Heritage contains an excellent article by Henry C. Pitz about the career of Wyeth and his family. At the time of his tragic death in a railway crossing accident, N. C. Wyeth was one of America's best loved painters." Feel free to subscribe!

Born in Bad Kreuznach on the Nahe, Germany on Nov. 18, 1863. After being drafted into the German army, Mannheim deserted and fled to France where he studied art at Ecole Delecluse, Académie Colarossi, and with DeLancey and Bouguereau. Having learned book binding early in life, he used this trade to support himself while studying art in Paris. Upon immigrating to Illinois in 1884, he painted portraits in Chicago and taught in a Decatur art school. About 1903 he accepted a position at Frank Brangwyn's school in London and stayed for two years. Returning to the U.S., he taught at the Denver Art School until 1908. He then made his final move to Pasadena and built a home in the Arroyo Seco. Mannheim maintained a studio in the Blanchard Building in Los Angeles where he exhibited and taught, and in 1913 founded the Stickney Memorial School of Fine Arts in Pasadena. His figure studies and landscapes prior to 1915 were tighter and done with a restricted palette; whereas, his palette then lightened and he adopted the loose brushwork of Impressionism. He died in Pasadena on Sept. 6, 1945. Georges de La Tour: A collection of 58 paintings (HD)

05:48
Georges de La Tour: A collection of 58 paintings (HD) Description: "Little is known of Georges de La Tour's life. By 1620 he was established at the prosperous town of Lunéville, where he specialized in religious and genre scenes. His primary patrons seem to have been Lunéville's bourgeoisie and the duchy's administration at nearby Nancy. In 1639 he gained the title of peintre du roi (Painter to the King) and was wealthy enough to arouse jealousy among his fellow townsmen. La Tour's early mode typifies the Mannerist style of Nancy. By the 1620s, however, he had come into contact with the art of Caravaggio, probably through prints or paintings by northern artists such as Gerrit van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen. Lit by crisp daylight, La Tour's works from this period are characterized by their still atmosphere and meticulous rendering of ornament and textures. Increasingly, La Tour was drawn to candlelight scenes in which a single flame created an atmosphere of otherworldly calm. He gradually simplified forms until, in his late works, all masses were reduced to simple, almost geometrical, shapes. After his death, La Tour passed into virtual oblivion for almost three centuries. In 1915 a German scholar recognized La Tour's style in several pictures that had been variously ascribed to Spanish, Dutch, and other French artists." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida: A collection of 149 paintings (HD) Description: "Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida began to study painting at the age of fifteen in his native Valencia, Spain. At the age of eighteen, he went to Madrid, where he copied Old Master paintings in the Museo del Prado. Four years later, Sorolla won a grant to study painting in Rome; there he developed a distinct ability for depicting the effects of light. When Sorolla returned to Madrid, his paintings were in great demand. The paintings he exhibited at the 1901 Exposition Universelle in Paris were very well received. Contributing to his international fame, the Hispanic Society of America commissioned him to paint decorative scenes for its library in New York City in 1911. J. Paul Getty purchased ten of Sorolla's Impressionist beach scenes at auction in 1933. He later explained, "One could hardly imagine greater contrasts than those between a Van Goyen and a Sorolla--but, as I say, I bought what I liked." Sorolla's widow left a large collection of his paintings to the people of Spain. The collection is now a museum, the Museo Sorolla, in the artist's house in Madrid." Feel free to subscribe!

By combining elements of Realism and Impressionism in his landscapes, Thaulow created his own movement, and he’s responsible for introducing the Impressionist style to Norway." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learnfrommasters/ Contact: [email protected] LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #NorwegianPainter #ImpressionistMovement #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory #FritzThaulow #TASCHEN

Carl Spitzweg: A collection of 78 paintings (HD) Description: "Carl Spitzweg (also Karl Spitzweg) was born on February, 1808, in Unterpfaffenhofen, Bavaria. In 1825, he successfully completed his education at the humanistic Gymnasium. He then studied pharmacy at the university in Munich. Spitzweg finished his studies with distinction in 1832. Because of a drawn out illness, he gave up his career and dedicated himself to painting from then on. Spitzweg copied paintings in the "Alte Pinakothek" in Munich and maintained friendships with painters such as Christian Morgenstern, Eduard Schleich the Elder, Dietrich Langko, and Friedrich Voltz. He became a member of the Art Association of Munich in 1835. He sold his first paintings in 1837. He gained inspiration on his numerous educational journeys to Salzburg, Bozen, Meran, Venice und Dalmatia, among other places. Carl Spitzweg began a lasting friendship with Moritz von Schwind in 1847. Together with Schwind, he visited the World Fair in Paris in 1851. While subsequently visiting London in that year, he was fascinated by the works of John Constable and William Turner. He started seeing some success in 1860. Carl Spitzweg received the Bavarian Royal Merit Order of St. Michael in 1865. He was inducted as an honorary member of the Academy of Visual Arts in 1868, though he had never attended an art academy himself. Beginning in 1844, he produced many humoristic pictures in the "Fliegende Blätter." In this small format work, he represented the world of the German everyman with loving humor and indulgence as the Biedermeier ideal of "the good ole days." The work which best represents his technical sophistication and unmistakable style is "Der arme Poet" ("The Poor Poet") from 1839. Carl Spitzweg died on September 23, 1885, in Munich." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support!

Carl Vilhelm Holsøe: A collection of 65 paintings (HD) Description: "Carl Vilhelm Holsøe was born in Lyngbye near Arhus in Denmark. He studied at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen between 1882-1884, and subsequently at the Artist’s ‘Studieskole’ under Peder Severin Kroyer (1851-1909), perhaps the most influential Danish artist of his generation. In 1886, Holsøe made his debut at the Charlottenberg December exhibition with an interior scene, a subject for which he was to become renowned. Interior scenes, often sparsely furnished rooms were a feature of Danish painting in the latter part of the 19th Century. Vilhelm Hammershoi (1864-1916) a contemporary of Holsøe was also a painter who specialised in such scenes, frequently, like Holsøe including a single, invariably, female figure. Holsøe achieves a defined space in these interiors through harmonious colours, subdued light and the careful juxtaposition of objects. He was enormously popular throughout Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, receiving an honourable mention at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1889 and a medal at the Munich Exhibition of 1891. His works can be found in museums in: Copenhagen and Munich. " Feel free to subscribe!

Albert Lebourg: A collection of 224 paintings (HD) Description: "Albert Lebourg was a French Impressionist painter known for his atmospheric depictions of riverside landscapes. “I will paint often at the banks of the Seine: Nanterre, Rueil, Chatou, Bougival, Port-Marly. These are a source of themes and very beautiful landscapes,” he once said. Born on February 1, 1849 in Montfort-sur-Risle, France, he originally studied architecture but switched to painting after enrolling at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. The artist went on to exhibit his works at the fourth Impressionist Exhibition in 1879, alongside Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. Though he spent many years living in Algiers, during the late 1880s he settled back in France, where he painted in the environs around Paris, Auvergne, and Normandy. Lebourg’s works were popular with his contemporaries, and he was the subject of several solo exhibitions in Paris during his lifetime. He died on January 6, 1928 in Rouen, France. Antonio Mancini: A collection of 111 paintings (HD) *UPDATE

Antonio Mancini: A collection of 111 paintings (HD) *UPDATE (added over 50 new artworks than previous video) Description: "One of Italy's greatest early modern painters, Antonio Mancini (1852-1930) is best known for his daring and innovative painting methods. Born in Rome, Mancini spent his formative years in Naples, and it was there that the young artist was first recognized as a precociously gifted figure painter, noted for his poignant depictions of poor street urchins, or scugnizzi, subjects with whom he identified through his own impoverished childhood. Through his studies at the Istituto di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts) and the influence of Neapolitan Baroque artists and his own most important teacher, Domenico Morelli, Mancini developed a realistic style that he held to stubbornly, even after meeting Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Jean Léon Gérôme, and other French artists during two extended trips to Paris in the 1870s. After returning to Naples, Mancini's promising career was seriously derailed by an episode of mental illness-possibly brought on by mercury poisoning-that included delirium and even hallucinations and culminated in his hospitalization for four months in 1881-82. Although pronounced "cured," his bizarre behavior persisted to the extent that many referred to him as il pittore pazzo--the crazy painter. It was during this first period of mental instability that Mancini began to express his lifelong fixation with reflective self portraits. His paintings were at once realistic and visionary. Mancini moved permanently to Rome in 1883. In the following decades his inability to manage his affairs limited him to a precarious existence even as he developed new techniques: the use of the gratìcola (or perspective grid), radically thick impastos, and the inclusion of glass, metal foil, and other materials on the surfaces of his paintings. Nevertheless, he garnered the support of a cadre of European and American patrons and artists, and the turn of the century brought growing critical acclaim and acceptance of his work. John Singer Sargent is said to have called Mancini the "greatest living painter." Mancini contributed paintings to the Venice Biennale and other respected exhibitions in Europe, and by the time of his death in Italy in 1930, he had assumed the status of a national hero." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #ItalianPainter #ImpressionistMovement #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory #AntonioMancini

Otto Modersohn: A collection of 83 paintings (HD)

Otto Modersohn: A collection of 83 paintings (HD) Description: "The Modersohn family moved from Soest to Münster in 1884, where Otto discovered his interest in art while still at high school. After graduating from school he went to the Akademie in Düsseldorf, but he did not agree with the teaching methods here. After a short stay in Munich Otto Modersohn hoped to find artistic inspiration at the Akademie in Karlsruhe, but was once again disappointed. A summer trip through northern Germany together with Mackensen in 1888, however, inspired Modersohn to a series of small paintings, one of the first highlights in his early years. Another joint trip with Mackensen to Worpswede in 1889 resulted in Modersohn's decision to stay in the artist colony. Modersohn soon began to disagree with his friends' ideas. He wrote "Quiet, quiet grandness is my true goal" and he would rather "say much with very little [...]". He sent eight works to the first group exhibition of the Worpswede artists at the Kunsthalle in Bremen in 1895. The reactions to the exhibition varied, but the following participation in the international Glaspalast exhibition in Munich was to be a great success for Modersohn. Paula Becker, who married Modersohn in 1901, visited Worpswede for the first time in 1897. At this time the painter was considering leaving the colony. The following period is determined by numerous trips and various sojourns in Germany and France, mostly undertaken together with his wife. The Modersohns returned to Worpswede in the spring of 1907, where Paula died in November after giving birth to a daughter. Modersohn moved to Fischerhude, where "a new time began" for him in 1908. The artist studied nature in this rural surrounding and always returned here even after repeated visits in Worpswede and Berlin in 1917. "Simplicity, reduction of form and colour is one of the main goals" of his art in the 1920s. Important sources of inspiration were Holland and the Allgäu, where he bought a house in 1930. When the painter turned blind on one eye he abandoned his trips to the Allgäu and spent his time painting in his Fischerhude studio. Otto Modersohn died seven years later after a surprising, short illness." --- MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Avec Soin - Romance Avec Soin - Romance by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100860 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] SUPPORT MY WORK AT: https://www.patreon.com/LearnFromMasters LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: https://goo.gl/hri4HE --- Thank you so much for your support! #LearnFromMasters #GermanPainter #OttoModersohn #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory

Alphonse Mucha: A collection of 111 paintings (HD)

09:28
Alphonse Mucha: A collection of 111 paintings (HD) Description: Alfons Mucha was born in Southern Moravia on July 24, 1860. At the age of seventeen the artist left his home, to work as a painter of stage decorations at the Vienna "Ringtheater". When there was a fire at the theater, Mucha lost his job. He found new employment at the Vienese castle with Count Khuen, who became his patron and sent him to the Munich art academy a few years later. From there, Alfons Mucha went on to Paris in 1887 to continue his studies at the "Académie Julian" and then at the "Académie Colarossi". Due to a lack of financial support from Khuen, however, the student was forced to leave the academy and earn a living as an illustrator. During this time he produced a large number of sketches and drawings. These were studies for illustrations, which were later published in "Figaro illustré", "Petit Parisien illustré" and other journals. This early work and the prints for illustrated books like "L´éléfant blanc" by Judith Gauthier, at which Alfons Mucha worked during this time, still reflect the usual academic historic style of the time. By coincidence, thanks to an employer of Lemercier printers, Mucha was commissioned to design a poster for Sarah Bernhardt in 1894. This provided the launchpad for Mucha's future success and importance as an influencial designer of French "Art Nouveau". Sarah Bernhardt was impressed by the artist's work. From then on, the famous actress not only had Mucha design her posters but also her costumes and stages. The public also liked Mucha's works very much and he became a famous, widely talked about and celebrated master almost over night. Around 1900 Alfons Mucha reached the peak of his fame. Mucha's theoretical theses "Documents Décoratives" and "Figures Décoratives" influenced the applied art of the time significantly. From now on, people talk about "Mucha style" whose typical elements like the arabesque hair and the aureole surrounding the female profile, were often copied. In 1900 Alfons Mucha took part in the Paris World Exposition, evoking general attention with his wall decorations in Bosnia and Herzegovina's pavilion. In 1904 Alfons Mucha went to America, where he produced wall decorations, stages settings and portraits during a prolonged stay in New York. Alongside he taught drawing and compostition at the Chicago Art Institute. After Mucha's return to his home country, shortly before World War I, he dedicated considerable time to lithographic work. Then he became increasingly occupied by a series of 20 pictures entitled "Lépopée Slave", the "Slavian Epos". Mucha finished the large format continuation (6 x 8m) of the decoration of the Bosnian pavilion in 1928 and donated it to the city of Prague. Alfons Mucha died in Prague shortly before the invasion of Czechoslovakia by German troops on July 14, 1939. Feel free to subscribe!

He painted landscapes mostly from nature of Kiev province and vicinity of St. Petersburg. Most of his paintings appeared at the annual academic exhibitions, starting from 1879, and watercolors – at exhibitions of Russian watercolors society, an active member of which he had been since its founding. In the fall of 1910 at an exhibition of Russian paintings in London was presented last picture Kryzhitsky – The smell of spring. On this canvas with amazing subtlety messaging is featured pre-spring atmosphere. Blue shadows on the melted snow, mighty oaks, bathing in the rays of the winter sun … Looking at the picture, you feel joyful anticipation of heat.Shortly after the show one of the St. Petersburg newspapers – for the sake of cheap sensationalism – accused Kryzhitsky of plagiarism. Unjustly accuse was obvious to all. But the artist was not able to survive the insult and on the night of April 4, 1911 committed suicide. Konstantin Kryzhitsky left a great legacy that survived mainly in museums of Russian and eastern Ukrainian provincial cities, Samara, Saratov, Kharkov, Petrozavodsk." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Leonardo da Vinci: A collection of 119 sketches (HD)

Leonardo da Vinci: A collection of 119 sketches (HD) Description: "Da Vinci was one of the great creative minds of the Italian Renaissance, hugely influential as an artist and sculptor but also immensely talented as an engineer, scientist and inventor. Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452 near the Tuscan town of Vinci, the illegitimate son of a local lawyer. He was apprenticed to the sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence and in 1478 became an independent master. In about 1483, he moved to Milan to work for the ruling Sforza family as an engineer, sculptor, painter and architect. From 1495 to 1497 he produced a mural of 'The Last Supper' in the refectory of the Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. Da Vinci was in Milan until the city was invaded by the French in 1499 and the Sforza family forced to flee. He may have visited Venice before returning to Florence. During his time in Florence, he painted several portraits, but the only one that survives is the famous 'Mona Lisa' (1503-1506). In 1506, da Vinci returned to Milan, remaining there until 1513. This was followed by three years based in Rome. In 1517, at the invitation of the French king Francis I, Leonardo moved to the Château of Cloux, near Amboise in France, where he died on 2 May 1519. The fame of Da Vinci's surviving paintings has meant that he has been regarded primarily as an artist, but the thousands of surviving pages of his notebooks reveal the most eclectic and brilliant of minds. He wrote and drew on subjects including geology, anatomy (which he studied in order to paint the human form more accurately), flight, gravity and optics, often flitting from subject to subject on a single page, and writing in left-handed mirror script. He 'invented' the bicycle, airplane, helicopter, and parachute some 500 years ahead of their time. If all this work had been published in an intelligible form, da Vinci's place as a pioneering scientist would have been beyond dispute. Yet his true genius was not as a scientist or an artist, but as a combination of the two: an 'artist-engineer'. His painting was scientific, based on a deep understanding of the workings of the human body and the physics of light and shade. His science was expressed through art, and his drawings and diagrams show what he meant, and how he understood the world to work." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Rembrandt van Rijn: A collection of 102 sketches (HD)

Rembrandt van Rijn: A collection of 102 sketches (HD) Description: "Rembrandt van Rijn, in full Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Rembrandt originally spelled Rembrant (born July 15, 1606, Leiden, Netherlands—died October 4, 1669, Amsterdam) Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, possessing an exceptional ability to render people in their various moods and dramatic guises. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favoured an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty. Early in his career and for some time, Rembrandt painted mainly portraits. Although he continued to paint—and etch and, occasionally, draw—portraits throughout his career, he did so less frequently over time. Roughly one-tenth of his painted and etched oeuvre consists of studies of his own face as well as more-formal self-portraits, a fact that has led to much speculation. The core of Rembrandt’s oeuvre, however, consists of biblical and—to a much lesser extent—historical, mythological, and allegorical “history pieces,” all of which he painted, etched, or sketched in pen and ink or chalk. Seen over his whole career, the changes in Rembrandt’s style are remarkable. His approach to composition and his rendering of space and light—like his handling of contour, form, and colour, his brushwork, and (in his drawings and etchings) his treatment of line and tone—are subject to gradual (or sometimes abrupt) transformation, even within a single work. The painting known as Night Watch (1640/42) was clearly a turning point in his stylistic development. These changes are not the result of an involuntary evolution; rather they should be seen as documenting a conscious search in pictorial and narrative respects, sometimes in discussion, as it were, with his great predecessors. Rembrandt quickly achieved renown among Dutch art lovers and an art-buying public for his history paintings and etchings, as well as his portraits and self-portraits. His unusual etchings brought him international fame during his lifetime, and his drawings, which in fact were done as practice exercises or as studies for other works, were also collected by contemporary art lovers. According to the myth that evolved after his death, Rembrandt died poor and misunderstood. It is true that by the end of his life his realism had been supplanted by Classicism and had become unfashionable in Holland. Nevertheless, his international reputation among connoisseurs and collectors only continued to rise. Certain artists in 18th-century Germany and Venice even adopted his style. He was venerated during the Romantic era and was considered a forerunner of the Romantic movement; from that point he was regarded as one of the greatest figures in art history. In the Netherlands itself, his fortunes have once again risen, and he has become a symbol of both greatness and Dutch-ness." Feel free to subscribe!
