How To Make an alternative to plastic wrap using beeswax & cotton

04:32
Today I'm showing you how to make your very own wax wraps, which are used to store your food. This is an amazing way to be eco-friend, and healthy (beeswax is naturally anti-bacterial)! The wraps are used as bowl covers or sandwich holders. You can even sew little buttons to the wraps to use for presents. When it comes to washing, keep in mind that wax doesn’t melt, so run under cold water. Materials - Clothes pegs with hooks or skirt hangers - 1 cup beeswax pellets - An old baking sheet with a half to one inch lip - Heat -proof gloves - Cotton fabric - Pinking shears - Large sewing needle - Buttons - Kitchen Twine Instructions 1) Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees F 2) Set up your clothes pegs or hanger. I got pegs that have hooks on them, so I just hooked them on a rack above my oven. That way I knew I could place the baking sheet underneath to catch drips. Another idea is to stick magnets to clothes pegs, and then you can attach them to the hood of your range. Or, I just figured out that a skirt hanger will do the job too! Just take a minute to figure this out. But keep in mind that that the wax dries super quickly, so if you can't work out the peg/hanger thing, you can just hold the wax coated fabric up for about 60 seconds, and it will stop dripping. 3) Meanwhile, cut either square or round shapes out of your fabric. I traced around a dinner plate and a dessert plate for my round shapes. Use pinking shears to cut to prevent edges from fraying. (1 cup of wax will make about 5-7 dinner plate size wraps.) 4) Sprinkle the beeswax over the base of your pan and place in the oven for about 5 minutes, or until the wax has completely melted. Keep an eye on it because there is a fine line between it completely melting and smoking! 5) Now it's time to work quickly: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and lay a fabric shape in the melted wax. Use tongs to make sure the fabric is completely soaked with wax. If you have sensitive hands, wear heat-proof gloves. I didn't bother because I swear I have "asbestos" hands. 6) Either hold the fabric up until the wax stops dripping and sets (about a minute or so), or clip them up with the pegs. (Don't worry if you mess up. You can always pop the fabric in the pan, and place it back in the oven for a couple of minutes until the wax has liquified again.) 7) Lay your coated fabric flat. 8) Once dry you can fold the wax-coated fabric into a pouch or just fold it up. 9) Using kitchen twine, I sewed a couple of vintage buttons onto my sandwich pouches for easy closure. But of course, this is optional, but great if you are making them for gifts. To Use: When you are ready to use it, just warm it up with your hands and bend it over or around whatever food you want to keep fresh. They work great for cheese, veggies, sandwiches, and to cover bowls and containers. To Wash: You can wash them using eco-friendly dish detergent and cool water (do NOT use hot water because you don't want the wax to melt!) Keep in mind that beeswax is naturally anti-bacterial. DIY All Natural Moisturizer | Homemade, Natural Skin Moisturizer

Sophie Uliano breaks down what it is in your moisturizer. Sophie shows you how to make your very own all-natural moisturizer at home! HIBISCUS ROSE MOISTURIZER Ingredients - 1 tsp beeswax // https://goo.gl/dHgxSX - 2 tsp cocoa butter // https://goo.gl/NgA3XR - 4 tbsp Sweet Almond Oil (https://goo.gl/ZYjsY2) or Jojoba Oil for oily skin (https://goo.gl/9HxYfv) - 4 tbsp hibiscus tea // https://goo.gl/XJ6nx6 - 1 tsp emulsifying wax // https://goo.gl/h3nMwH - 1/2tsp rose oil // https://goo.gl/qiM36Z Steps 1. DIY All-Natural, Non-Toxic Deodorant - 3 Recipes You Can Make Today

06:38
Natural deodorant is all the rage right now - Who wants to put chemicals directly on your skin and that close to you lymphatic system? But they're so expensive - That's why I've created three simple recipes for natural deodorant that you can make at home for as little as $1 a package. Amazing right? Today I'm showing you how to make a Push-Up Deodorant, a Pit Paste and a delicious Body Spray. Ingredients for Push-Up Deodorant (Makes 2 x 2-ounce tubes): ½ cup coconut oil // https://goo.gl/jXcDGw ½ cup shea butter // https://goo.gl/gLM2Ct 4 teaspoons beeswax pellets // https://goo.gl/dHgxSX 2 Tablespoons zinc oxide // https://goo.gl/4z7in7 20 drops grapefruit essential oil // https://goo.gl/bmKnkr You will need to buy 2-ounce tubes for this Directions for Push-Up Deodorant: 1) Melt oils and butters in a double boiler 2) Remove from heat and whisk in zinc oxide 3) Add the essential oil 4) Pour into molds 5) Allow it to set for 3 – 4 hours Ingredient benefits: Coconut oil moisturizing Shea butter, hydrating and nourishing Zinc Oxide will help you to stay dry and helps with odor Grapefruit essential oil is antibacterial. Ingredients for Pit Paste: ¼ Cup Tapioca Starch // https://goo.gl/iei4Me ¼ Cup Baking Soda // https://goo.gl/FwVnTd ¼ Cup coconut oil // https://goo.gl/dEJtv5 1 teaspoon zinc oxide // https://goo.gl/4z7in7 40 drops of your favorite essential oil Directions for Pit Paste: Mash ingredients together in a bowl. (Note that when it’s warm outside the coconut oil will be liquid enough to mash without heating first. In the colder months, you may have to heat it by placing in a cup and then standing the cup in very hot water for 5 minutes.) Simply place all the ingredients in a bowl and mash together with a fork. Transfer to a jar, and chill in the fridge. In very warm weather it’s best to keep it in the fridge. In cooler weather, you can keep it out. Ingredient benefits: Tapioca Starch and baking soda help keep you dry Coconut oil will protect and nourish your skin Zinc Oxide deals with wetness and odor (Since we are using essential oils, I prefer you use an opaque sprayer because light degrades the oils). I found mine (cute metal sprayers) at The Container Store. Ingredients for Body Spray: 2 ounces distilled water 1 ounce Witch Hazel // https://goo.gl/rQdBVs 1 ounce aloe vera juice // https://goo.gl/B2k9GK 40 drops of your favorite essential oil 4-ounce sprayer bottle // https://goo.gl/S7PCD8 Directions for the Body Spray: Simply mix all the ingredients and transfer to bottle! Ingredient Benefits: The witch hazel is an astringent, so helps to evaporate sweat on contact. The aloe vera juice is moisturizing. The essential oils (if you choose lavender, tea tree, peppermint, grapefruit, lemon are anti-bacterial). DIY Skinny Tea | Detox, Lose Weight & Feel Great Using Safe, Natural, Healthy Ingredients

07:04
Here's my natural DIY weight-loss tea that is also beneficial for your health and can help you with your weight loss and detox, goals! Many products on the market can contain unsafe amounts of caffeine and give you stomach aches. Some red flags include “miracle” and “gardenia cambogia” which is not regulated. My recipe includes green tea which has an antioxidant call catechin that aids in reducing body fat and cholesterol. Matcha contains more catechin than any other kind of tea. Other ingredients are hibiscus tea, lemongrass tea and dandelion root. You can store the tea mixture for up to six months in an airtight container. Ingredients - 1 ounce of green Sencha Tea // https://goo.gl/AVBnGT - 1/2 ounce Dried Hibiscus flowers // https://goo.gl/U3enmE - 1/2 ounce Dried Lemongrass // https://goo.gl/UY5yhd Directions 1. Mix the teas and herbs in a bowl and transfer to an airtight canister (better in an airtight tin or opaque jar because teas are light sensitive.) 2. Place 2 tsp in a small teapot or ball strainer. 3. Let it steep for 5 minutes in just-boiled water. 4. Serve with a little liquid stevia and/or a slice of lemon. *You can drink up to 5 cups a day. What I Eat In A Day | Healthy Vegan, Plant-Based Meal Options

11:30
After much demand, I've finally made my "What I Eat In A Day" video!! First things first, I very rarely eat the same things day after day. This is an approximation of my favorite options throughout the day. But my biggest note is that variety is the spice of life - Don't hesitate to go outside of the box when you're thinking about healthy options! Breakfast is very light for me. I like to focus on fruits and protein, with lots of great nutrients to kick off my day. Chia pudding (Coconut milk + chia seeds) with fruit, nuts and grain-free granola A green smoothie (with lots of greens and fruits) LOTS of fresh berries And shout out to Forager Milk // http://foragerproject.com Lunch is usually a salad for me, because I love to mix the raw and cooked veggies. Don't skimp on the healthy carbs and fats!! Here is the link for Coconut Flour Flat Bread // goo.gl/bB91cF And here is a link for my favorite Health Aid Kombucha // http://health-ade.com My absolute favorite dinner is a bowl - With lots of great vegetables and flavors. This is a great way to diversity your dinner, and to make sure that you have different types of foods present on your plate! Dressing Recipe: 1 tbsp tahini 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp turmeric 1tsp curry powder 2 tsp maple syrup Juice half a lemon 1 garlic clove 1 pinch sea salt A pinch of black pepper Toss all the ingredients in the blender, and blend until smooth. If you want a thinner dressing, add a tiny bit of water. DIY Rose Clay Soap For Sensitive Skin

06:06
Today I'm showing you how to make your very own fabric soap bundles. I'm making Rose Clay and Oatmeal Soap for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The bundles are 100% chemical-free and 100% fragrance-free. Ingredients for Moisturizing, Anti-Itch Soap 3 pounds of Natures Garden Oatmeal Melt & Pour Soap Base 1 1/2 teaspoon Jojoba Oil // https://goo.gl/281XYY 1 1/2 teaspoon Avocado Oil // https://goo.gl/sHmwx9 1 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil (natural) // https://goo.gl/N6nqLZ 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin // https://goo.gl/KXF68M 2-3 teaspoons Rose Clay // https://goo.gl/mFyogW Square Soap Loaf Mold // https://goo.gl/XmWsgT Disposable Pipettes (for oils) // https://goo.gl/rhPf43 ½ cup Rolled Oats // https://goo.gl/7utd6b 1 ½ Tablespoons Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil (optional) //https://goo.gl/Wp2DxJ 1 1/2 Tablespoons Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional) // https://goo.gl/MdGHhh Other Ingredients and Equipment - Microwave-safe Mixing Bowls (2) - Food processor - Small bowl for mixing clay - Stirring Spoons - Microwave - Scale - Spatula - Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol Step 1: Cut up (in small pieces) a total of 3 pounds of Oatmeal Melt & Pour Soap Base. For your first layer, you will need 2 pounds of the soap. Set the other 1 pound of soap base aside for your top layer. Step 2: Prepare your natural rose clay colorant for your soap by combining 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin with 2-3 teaspoons rose clay. By mixing your clay with vegetable glycerin, it “wets” the clay and helps to quickly remove clumps. Your mixture should be a paste like consistency. Set aside. Step 3: Prepare your ground oats: Measure out ½ cup rolled oats and place in a food processor until it is nicely ground. Set aside. Step 4: In a microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt 2 pounds of Oatmeal Melt & Pour soap in the microwave. Be careful not to get your soap too hot or it can scorch. We suggest melting the soap in 30 second bursts, stirring, and placing back into the microwave until your soap base is completely melted. Step 5: To your melted soap, add the following: 1 teaspoon avocado oil, 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil, 1 teaspoon jojoba oil, and your rose clay mixture and ½ tablespoon tea tree essential oil plus ½ tablespoon lavender 40/42 essential oil. If you want to keep your soap unscented, simply do not add essential oils. Stir until everything is mixed well. Step 6: Pour your soap mixture into the square soap loaf mold. Spray top of soap with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles. Step 7: Allow this layer of soap to set up for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature. Step 8: Prepare your second layer of soap by melting the remaining 1 pound of Oatmeal melt & pour soap base in the microwave as described previously. Step 9: Once your soap is completely melted, add the following to your melted soap: ½ teaspoon avocado oil, ½ teaspoon jojoba oil, ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil and ½ cup ground rolled oats. ½ Tablespoon Lavender 40/42 essential oil (optional), ½ Tablespoon Tea tree essential oil (optional). Stir. Step 10: Spray the “pink” layer of soap in the mold once again with rubbing alcohol. Doing this will allow the white oatmeal layer of soap to properly adhere to the pink layer. Step 11: Pour the “white” oatmeal layer of soap on top of the “pink” layer, and quickly sprinkle top of soap with whole rolled oats. Step 12: Allow your soap to set up for several hours. Cut your soap into slices, and enjoy! How To Oil Pull & Clean Your Teeth With Charcoal | Oil Pulling, Teeth Whitening & Natural Oral Care

Best Ever Plant-Based, Whole Foods Green Smoothie Recipe

12:47
I am so excited to welcome Dr. Brooke Goldner to today’s video. Dr. Goldner is famous for her book “Goodbye Lupus,” which she penned after she beat her own Lupus diagnosis through a whole foods, plant-based diet (aka, a vegan diet). Today, Dr. Goldner is showing us her favorite green smoothie recipe. I’ve been drinking green smoothies for years, but this recipe is hands down the best vegan green smoothie recipe I’ve tried to date. I’ve integrated it into my morning practice, and will never look back. Check out the recipe below! And visit http://www.veganmedicaldoctor.com/ to learn more about Dr. Goldner. You'll need a high-powered blender for this smoothie. Partially because you'll need the speed, but also you'll need a larger container (this makes enough smoothie to last two meals, or two days). 1. Pack your blender with power greens (kale, spinach, collards or a blend), until is 3/4 of the way full. And REALLY pack it in there. 2. Add a ripe banana (the more ripe, the sweeter the flavor) 3. Add whole flax seeds (about 3 tbsps) 4. Add frozen fruit to taste (I like frozen mango, pineapple and peaches) 5. Add water (or coconut water) til the top of the greens 6. Blend REALLY well and enjoy Subscribe to Sophie’s weekly newsletter at http://sophieuliano.com/starterguide/ and get her free Wellness Starter Guide (over 50 pages of healthy living tips, tricks, recipes and reviews)! DIY Homemade Body Powder | How To Make The Perfect Chemical-Free Talcum Powder Alternative

04:13
Today, I'm giving you a recipe to make your own lavender body powder that will keep you smelling fresh and clean. We've all heard the reports about how Talcum Powder may contain carcinogens, so this recipe is a simple alternative for anyone who is worried about their health! Materials 1 cup arrowroot powder or organic corn starch // https://goo.gl/5UxEAo or https://goo.gl/8KW7LP 1 tbsp baking soda // https://goo.gl/f7UZ74 2 tbsp of white clay // https://goo.gl/5RFE55 1/2 cup lavender buds // https://goo.gl/W598Gs 50 drops lavender essential oil // https://goo.gl/xrpWDU *You can buy dried lavender buds online, or you can dry you own. If you do dry your own, make sure it is really dry before adding it to the mix! You can also substitute dried roses or dried chamomile (and add the corresponding essential oils). Instructions Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender or a food processor, and blend until the lavender buds are powdered (they kind of disappear). Carefully spoon into a jar – Or even better, pour it into an old talc container (because of the sifter lid), or a sterilized (pop in a bowl of boiling water for a few seconds to sterilize), spice jar with sifter lid. Healthy Baked Potato Recipe | Eat This, Not That: Baked Potato Edition

05:38
I LOVE a baked potato. So decadent, so delicious. So .... unhealthy. That's why I decided to make this healthy swap recipe! I love to use red potatoes because the skin is so delicious and gets so crispy and perfect. Here's the real secret: Scoop out the inside of the potato, and save for another meal! You're really stretching your dollar (and your calories)! Kitchen hack: Bake the potatoes a few days ahead of time. INGREDIENTS for Healthy Baked Potato - 8 red potatoes - 1 Tb olive oil - Sea salt - 1 can black beans - 1 tub salsa - 8 Tb shredded Mexican cheese blend - 2 cups guacamole - 8 broccoli spears - Sour cream or Cashew cream for topping (recipe below) - Fresh Cilantro INGREDIENTS for Cashew Cream - 1 cup raw cashew soaked overnight - 1 cup water - 2 Tb Nutritional yeast - Juice of 1 lemon - 2 clove garlic - 2 tsp Tamari - Sea salt to taste if needed DIRECTIONS - Set oven to 400 degrees - Rub potatoes with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. - Bake for about 10 - 15 minutes, depending on size of potatoes. You want the skins to be crisp and the insides to be soft. - Remove from oven and allow them to cool. This can be done the day before (or 2 days prior) - Steam broccoli spears for a couple of minutes (you want them with a crunchy bite). Chop them up really small, especially the stalks (the idea is to kind o hide them from the kids!) - Cut the cooked & cooled potatoes in half. Using a small teaspoon, scoop out most of the potato (leaving a thick skin). Fill each potato skin with: - 1 Tb black beans - 1 Tb of chopped broccoli - 1 Tb shredded cheese - Place them in a really hot oven (400 - 425) for about ten minutes. The skins should crisp up and the cheese should melt. - Remove and top with guacamole, salsa, and either a dollop of sour cream or cashew cream* and cilantro. * This adds another healthy serving so would bring it up to 6 servings in one meal.
