Seesaw: generated entirely in HTML, CSS, and Javascript
This little animation was created entirely using a combination of HTML, CSS, and Javascript (jQuery). It's another project I had to do for Visual Arts. The nature of the project was my choice, so I decided to do an exhibition of sorts using some of the web technologies I love and am comfortable with. It's also available for viewing at http://dev.arCyn1c.com/projects/seesaw, but you'll need a webkit browser (Chrome or Safari) if you want to view it (this is mostly because I was far too lazy to concern myself with cross-browser compatibility when my goal was just to get an animation completed).

C Programming - Some Pointer Fun
There are many good videos here on YouTube about pointers, and this video is not meant to be a serious discussion, however I feel you should take a look anyway. You can also display an address using the integer format specifier %d since %d and %p are both 4 byte values. Where %p will display the address using a hexadecimal number (base 16 numbers which is helpful for computers), %d will display the address using regular decimal (base 10) numbers. In place of %p, you can can also use %x

How to Create CSS Horizontal Drop Down Menu
In this tutorial we will learn to create CSS horizontal drop down menu. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Drop down menu is a part of almost every web page today. These menus give a nice solution of choosing from the list of items to website visitors as well to Web Developers, so that they don't have to worry about the presentation, as it can be now combined with appealing effects through CSS styling. Follow this step by step easy tutorial to learn to create Horizontal drop down menu through CSS and see how to give different effects on it. Step 1 - Main Div of the Menu First of all, open up the div tag , just after the body tag, and give it an id. This is our main div which will contain all the elements. After that, open up an unordered list tag and then open up the list tag to define its members. We will insert the hyperlink tag which is called an anchor tag. Then after this, we will write the heading for the first list. As this would act as the parent category, define it as "Main Category One". After that, open up an unordered list tag again and then define the child members for the Main category, in the same manner as we did earlier. This list will be considered as the sub categories of our main menu. 'body' 'div id="global-nav"' 'ul' 'li''a href="#One"'Main Category 1'/a' 'div id="global-subnav"' 'ul' 'li''a href="#A"'Sub Category '/a''/li' 'li''a href="#B"'Sub Category '/a''/li' 'li''a href="#C"'Sub Category '/a''/li' 'li''a href="#D"'Sub Category '/a''/li' '/ul' '/div' '/li' Step 2 - Second Main Category With that done, we will follow the same pattern to make another category in our drop down menu. We will start with the (li) tag and follow exactly the same pattern as before. The Code for that would be: (li)(a href="#Two")Main Category 2(/a) (div id="global-subnav") (ul) (li)(a href="#1")Sub Category (/a)(/li) (li)(a href="#2")Sub Category (/a)(/li) (li)(a href="#3")Sub Category (/a)(/li) (li)(a href="#4")Sub Category (/a)(/li) (/ul) (/div) (/li) Step 3 - Global- Navigation Class Explained Now add the CSS Styling on the drop down menu. For that, open up the style tag beneath the HTML header and assign "text/ css" in style type. Then describe the working of the classes, starting with the very first class we used, the global- nav class. This class is responsible for the Main look of the Menu. We have set its width to 135 pixels with left as its default position along with a background color. Code for that would be: #global-nav width: 135px; float: left; background: #e8eef4; Step 4 - Anchor Class After that, define the effects of the anchor tag. In this class, we are actually describing the effect of all the anchor tags inside the "global-nav " class and specifying it a particular color, with a cursor type as pointer and setting its alignment as well. The Code is: #global-nav a color: #034af3; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 65px; line-height: 40px; text-indent: 10px; text-decoration:none; font-weight: bold; width: 100%; Step 5 - Contents of Main Menu With that done, the effect of the Main Menu's contents is described in the global-nav ul class. The background color is specified as white smoke along with zero in padding and margins. The code for this class would be: #global-nav ul background: whitesmoke; padding: 0; margin: 0; Step 6 - Sub Navigation Class Next, we have defined the sub navigation menu class. This class will be responsible for the effect of the sub menu. We are using Grey as a background color and aligning it, with 80 pixels for the left side and minus 20 pixels for the top. Code would be: #global-subnav ul background: Grey; position: relative; left: 80px; top:-20px; Step 7 - Global --Nav Li class After that, the borders of the list elements are defined in the global --nav li class. We are setting a solid color effect of border at bottom having a width of 3 pixels. Its code would be: #global-nav li list-style: none; border-bottom: #5C87B2 solid; border-width: 3px;

Elemental variance defined by nuclei. From the Greek "isos" meaning equal and "topos" meaning place. Seven renowned musicians of distinct musical heritage with a shared vision and purpose, when combined, produce an utterly unique aural experience. Forged in the aftermath of Japan's nuclear catastrophe of 2011, this is an album of precision crafted cinematic soundscapes fusing elements of jazz, rock and electronica layered with heartfelt vocals. A poignant musical depiction of our shared future hanging in the balance, Isotope sees J's Bee artfully maturing beyond genre. The album glides between evident musical dynamics and unbeknown musical genres. From the dark, bass driven album opener 'Strange Supper', the momentous, ceaseless flurries of chaos in 'Angel Puke' to Granma, a sax-laden cut over a fast broken beat who's title refers to the name of the yacht used to transport 82 fighters of the Cuban Revolution in 1956 by Fidel Castro and Ernesto Guevara. Yuko's vocal takes 'Chuck it all' under her wrath pronouncing lyrics of being maternal and a revolutionist in a tumultuous manner. The instrumental songs harbour the dark side, contrasting both humanity and the world, providing the listener with a smooth yet eerie ensemble of experimental approaches. The band that initially formed over 10 years ago stand by their original sound that set them apart, refraining from commercialising their music. Continuously receiving strong support for their borderless music style and performance ability has allowed J's bee to interact and connect with people in all walks. With previous tracks featured on Japanese TV including a sync with a Smirnoff Advertisement, they have been invited to numerous different music festivals and gigs including one of Japan's famous festivals, Metamorphose advocated by Dalai Lama, the World Festival of Sacred Music Hiroshima, and The Fuji Rock Festival where the bands spectrum of backgrounds from Classic, Jazz, Rock, Dub, Electro and Club music were fully embraced. Recorded at Trip Echo studio and mixed by Yagotoyama Kobo, Isotope is a lushly arranged album that goes beyond a genre. Monads and Gonads
Google Tech Talk January 15, 2013 (more info below) Presented by Douglas Crockford ABSTRACT The wonders of monads are finally revealed without resorting to Category Theory or Haskell. It turns out that monads are trivially expressed in JavaScript, and are one of the key enablers of Ajax. Monads are amazing. They are simple things, almost trivially implemented, with enormous power to manage complexity. But understanding them is surprisingly difficult, and most people, once they have that ah-ha moment, seem to lose the ability to explain them to others.

JavaScript Tutorial - Mouse events part 1 - Introduction
click: The click event type must be dispatched on the topmost event target indicated by the pointer, when the user presses down and releases the pointer button, or otherwise activates the pointer in a manner that simulates such an action. The actuation method of the mouse button depends upon the pointer device and the environment configuration, e.g., it may depend on the screen location or the delay between the press and release of the pointing device button. The click event may be preceded by the mousedown and mouseup events on the same element, disregarding changes between other node types (e.g., text nodes). Depending upon the environment configuration, the click event may be dispatched if one or more of the event types mouseover, mousemove, and mouseout occur between the press and release of the pointing device button. The click event may also be followed by the dblclick event. dblclick: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device button is clicked twice over an element. The definition of a double click depends on the environment configuration, except that the event target must be the same between mousedown, mouseup, and dblclick. This event type must be dispatched after the event type click if a click and double click occur simultaneously, and after the event type mouseup otherwise. mousedown: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device button is pressed over an element. mouseenter: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device is moved onto the boundaries of an element or one of its descendent elements. This event type is similar to mouseover, but differs in that it does not bubble, and must not be dispatched when the pointer device moves from an element onto the boundaries of one of its descendent elements. mouseleave: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device is moved off of the boundaries of an element and all of its descendent elements. This event type is similar to mouseout, but differs in that does not bubble, and that it must not be dispatched until the pointing device has left the boundaries of the element and the boundaries of all of its children. mousemove: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device is moved while it is over an element. The frequency rate of events while the pointing device is moved is implementation-, device-, and platform-specific, but multiple consecutive mousemove events should be fired for sustained pointer-device movement, rather than a single event for each instance of mouse movement. Implementations are encouraged to determine the optimal frequency rate to balance responsiveness with performance. mouseout: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device is moved off of the boundaries of an element. This event type is similar to mouseleave, but differs in that does bubble, and that it must be dispatched when the pointer device moves from an element onto the boundaries of one of its descendent elements. mouseover: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device is moved onto the boundaries of an element. This event type is similar to mouseenter, but differs in that it bubbles, and that it must be dispatched when the pointer device moves onto the boundaries of an element whose ancestor element is the event target for the same event listener instance. mouseup: A user agent must dispatch this event when a pointing device button is released over an element. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/WebTunings/339234242822202 Recommended JavaScript Book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0596805527/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0596805527&linkCode=as2&tag=webtuningscom-20 Code snippets: https://github.com/webtunings

How to add arrow buttons to jScrollPane scrollbar
Watch in full screen HD. CSS and java script code for adding the up and down arrows to jScrollPane. Click "show more" of the description to read the code in case you cant make it out in the video. Thanks to the tutorial by 360creations I was able to add jscrollpane to the website I'm designing. But his video doesn't describe how to add the up and down arrow buttons for the scrollbar. After some research I found the css code which enables the arrow keys. Pass in "showArrows:true" to your on page java script... (script) $(function() { $('#div id name here').jScrollPane({showArrows: true}); }); The css code for the arrows is: a.jScrollArrowUp { } a.jScrollArrowUp:hover { } a.jScrollArrowUp:active { } a.jScrollArrowDown { } a.jScrollArrowDown:hover { } a.jScrollArrowDown:active { } Example from my css... a.jScrollArrowUp { background: url(../images/basic_arrow_up1.png) repeat-x 0 0; position: absolute; left: 681px; width: 40px !important; height: 47px !important; z-index:13; color:transparent; } a.jScrollArrowUp:hover { background: url(../images/basic_arrow_up1_hover.png) repeat-x 0 0; position: absolute; left: 681px; width: 40px !important; height: 47px !important; z-index:13; color:transparent; } a.jScrollArrowUp:active{ background: url(../images/basic_arrow_up1_active.png) repeat-x 0 0; position: absolute; left: 681px; width: 40px !important; height: 47px !important; z-index:13; color:transparent; } Just be sure to specify ( color: transparent;) or link text reading "scroll up and scroll down" will appear on your buttons! You could also modify the jScrollPane.js file but this way is easier.

Woman Attacked "Saw" Style With Gardening Shears
"A 27-year-old aspiring tattoo artist in Mason, Ohio was allegedly attacked by people she thought were her friends and threatened with a pair of gardening shears. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Brittany Rager's attackers said they were going to cut off her fingers to ruin her career as retribution for a jealous squabble with a friend. "It was like being in a 'Saw' movie," Rager told the Enquirer."* 27-year old Brittany Rager thought she was going to make amends with a friend, but she was brutally ambushed and attacked; her old friend threatening to cut off her fingers with gardening shears. Why did her friend think Rager "deserved" such a horrifying attack? eBook UI ideas: Highlight as you read
This works well with a trackpad with multitouch gestures where your pointer position can be at the point where your eyes meet the document but for a mouse it might be more laborious, and for touch input it obviously doesn't work at all. Touch could highlight on a short swipe, which is less cumbersome than a tap or long press, and could remove all highlighting by swiping out again. So the thumb or finger moves up on a scroll and then across without lifting off in the same way that a tap requires.

GZIP is not enough!
Compression matters! Heavy page weight hurts companies (in cost to transfer) and users (in cost to download). With the boom of mobile devices, especially in countries with lower speed connectivity, reducing your page weight is critical for the success with users on mobile. In this talk, Colt will discuss a plethora of research into alternate ways to compress, minify, munge, and represent CSS, JSON, HTML, XML and Javascript data on the web; and how GZIP sometimes helps, but often-times can get in the way. Attendees will walk away with a suite of options for reducing their page transfer sizes, and ideas about how to integrate the topics into their development pipelines.
