how to find ethical & eco-friendly clothing companies | ohgeeitsbri

10:25
so, if you guys have seen "The True Cost" documentary (or even if you've just heard about issues regarding the fast fashion industry), you're probably looking for better companies to buy your families clothing from. there are a lot of things that go into finding a great company (both in terms of ethicality and environmentalism) to purchase pieces from so i thought i would just give you some information that i've gathered so far. ****my biggest tip would be to look very critically at companies before you purchase from them. many people have realized that this is a growing area of the economy and are therefore, trying to jump on the bandwagon to make money. if a company makes it difficult for you to find out if they are GOTS certified, they probably aren't. if it's hard for you to find out where the products are made, they're probably made in china and they're definitely not going to be fair trade.***** just be very very careful who you believe and who you choose to support. companies that greenwash are some of the most annoying people to me and i will never knowingly support people who try to pull the wool over the eyes of consumers. ANYWAYS....i will make another video in the near future sharing some companies that i have found and love. in the mean time, i hope this helps. oh and here are the additional certifications i was mentioning so you can see what they entail: eco friendly fabrics: http://life.gaiam.com/article/how-are-eco-friendly-fabrics-made gots certification: http://www.global-standard.org/the-standard/general-description.html oeko tex 100 certification: https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/manufacturers/concept/oeko_tex_standard_100/oeko_tex_standard_100.xhtml bluesign certification: http://business-ethics.com/2012/11/11/what-is-the-bluesign-standard-for-textiles/ INSTAGRAM: ohgeeitsbribri TWITTER: ohgeeitsbribri - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - camera i film with: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J34YO92?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00J34YO92&linkCode=xm2&tag=youtube018-20 our stroller: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RR5XUA?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B008RR5XUA&linkCode=xm2&tag=youtube018-20 where i get discounted clothes, home decor, makeup, etc: http://www.hautelook.com/short/3KVqA my favorite hair straightener (i've had mine for 9 years!): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - looking to get a tattoo? my husband and i own this shop: gracetattooco.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - a little about me: well, my name is bri but you probably already figured that out from my channel name. i'm 25 years old. i'm a wife to a tattoo artist and also a crunchy mama. our household consists of myself, my husband, my sweet little boy, a crazy ass dog and two fat bunnies. i post videos about natural living, motherhood, organization, baby gear, health, cooking, days in my life, makeup, cloth diapers and lots of other stuff, as well. thanks a ton for being here. i hope you'll stick around! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - some of my most popular videos: my early pregnancy symptoms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCIEP... my labor and delivery story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow4OD... easy heatless voluminous curls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6kZY... how to get rid of greasy hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcfSy... how i got my stolen iphone back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxCow... my favorite period products: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjSfn... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thrifted Fall Fashion | 2015

Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE!!! Thanks for checking out my first video! One of my favorite hobbies is to go thrift shopping. Not only is it a lot of fun, it's also eco-friendly! Fast fashion stores (like Forever 21 and H&M) have a damaging effect on our environment. Toxic, cancer-causing chemicals are used in the fabrics that leak into our environment, ew! And it also depletes our earths natural resources! Fast fashion also uses unethical working conditions and child labor. I'm not perfect, I still purchase clothes from fast-fashion retailers, but I try to limit my purchases as much as possible. A solution for a sustainable fashion industry | Fredrik Wikholm | TEDxGöteborg

14:21
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Every year we throw away 30 kg of clothes, and the textile industry is one of the world’s top 5 polluters. So, how can we make the fashion industry more sustainable? It’s easy, claims social scientist and Creative Director Fredrik Wikholm, we just need ethics, environment and economics to be buddies. With his new innovation “The Rag Bag” Fredrik challenges the business to take action now, before it’s too late. It was the creative mindset and will to change, rather than skills in textile design that brought Fredrik Wikholm and his snowboard collective to start up a fashion brand that focused on sustainability. Now he’s taking recycling to the next level with an open-source innovation institute to pave ways for the fashion industry to make more sustainable choices. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Eco-friendly Packaging - TechKnow

05:14
"TechKnow," expert contributor Lindsay Moran travels to Green Island, NY, to investigate how mushrooms are being used to create Eco-friendly packaging and insulation materials. More traditional Styrofoam packaging is made of polystyrene, an unsustainable petrochemical, and can take up to a million years to biodegrade naturally. Ecovative Design, a biomaterials company, goal is to develop packaging materials that not only decompose faster and more naturally, but also give back to the ecosystem. They do this by utilizing mycelium, the microscopic root structure that allows mushrooms to grow on trees and spread throughout the forest floor. eco friendly jeans _ lee jeans _ lee.com

08:27
www.lee.com https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_(jeans) lee jeans organic cotton jean denim Jeans are trousers typically made from denim or dungaree cloth. Often the term "jeans" refers to a particular style of pants, called "blue jeans," which were invented by Jacob Davis in 1871[1] and patented by Davis and Levi Strauss on May 20, 1873. Originally designed for cowboys and miners, jeans became popular in the 1950s among teenagers, especially members of the greaser subculture. Jeans were a common fashion item in the 1960s Hippie subculture and they continued to be popular in the 1970s and 1980s youth subcultures of punk rock and heavy metal. Historic brands include Levi's, Lee, and Wrangler. In the 2010s, jeans remain a popular fashion item, and they come in various fits, including skinny, tapered, slim, straight, boot cut, cigarette bottom, narrow bottom, low waist, anti-fit, and flare. "Distressed" (visibly aged and worn, but still intact and functional) jean trousers have become increasingly fashionable, making pre-sale "factory distressing" a common feature in commercially sold jeans. Jeans are now a very popular article of casual dress around the world. They come in many styles and colors. However, blue jeans are particularly identified with US culture, especially the United States Old West. As well, although jeans are mostly known as a fashion garment in the 2010s, they are still worn as protective garments by some individuals, such as cattle ranch workers and motorcycle riders, due to their high durability as compared to other common fabrics.

Amazing Eco-Friendly Technology That Will Change The World

06:29
Top 10 environmentally friendly "Green" innovations and inventions that will help our planet earth create less pollution. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Description: With a World population of over seven billion people, a reliance on limited non-renewable resources and an environment which is getting more polluted each year, being environmentally or eco-friendly is becoming increasingly important. Every day we are bombarded with messages about air and water pollution. We are constantly reminded about our carbon footprint and the fact that global warming is slowly altering the environment we live in. From movies to politics, our relationship with the environment is a topic which is gaining importance with each passing year. Our response to this issue started slowly, but has accelerated dramatically over the past few years. If we don’t adjust our lifestyle and become more eco-friendly then we may end up destroying the very environment we live in. The environmental challenges we face aren’t new. For the last few decades we have incorporated more eco-friendly technologies and practices into our lifestyles as a way of using less energy and creating a smaller carbon footprint. Appliances are more energy efficient, cars produce fewer emissions, more households recycle their waste instead of sending it to the landfill – these are just a few of the many technologies and practices that have helped make us more eco-friendly. It doesn’t stop there, however. People around the world are constantly developing and promoting an array of goods and services meant to aid us in our everyday lives while also helping us to live in harmony with our environment. In the past, being eco-friendly was equated with changing one’s lifestyle in a dramatic fashion. You gave up your car for a bike, took your household off the power grid and relied on the ‘outside’ world as little as possible for your daily needs. Times have indeed changed a lot. Today, eco-friendly lifestyles are encouraged and those trying to have a positive impact on the environment are encouraged to be involved with the larger community. Solar panels can help you create your own electricity, but the surplus ‘clean’ energy they produce can be put back into the power grid for other people to use. Hybrid and electric cars no longer mean the automobile is an enemy of the environment and a range of eco-friendly products mean our consumer culture is on a greener path. This video contains examples of eco-friendly technologies which will change the world we live in. For the most part these innovations are the result of years or decades of development and improvements to existing technologies. The result are products which are now efficient and affordable enough to be used on a larger scale than previously possible. On the one hand, as you’ll see, some of these innovations will directly affect our personal lives on a daily basis by impacting such things as energy efficiency and health. Alternatively, there are technologies which focus on powering towns and cities, feeding the world’s population and reducing potentially toxic landfill waste. What these technologies all have in common is that they are eco-friendly and benefit both humans and the environment we rely so much on. In Culver City Wednesday night, the Green Humanitarian Fashion Show showcased six different designers whom in one way or another have decided to use environmentally friendly textiles. "Still very designer, still very up to date but using material such as soybean, charcoal, bamboo," noted a designer who only uses the letter, M. Eco-friendly fashion often conjures up an image of a granola crunching hippie mama in Birkenstocks. But today's woman or man can be green and fashion-forward. But breaking old stigmas isn't the only hurdle to jump for would be eco-designers. "The other challenge is to make it as eco-friendly as possible," Explains M, "Because even though you use eco-friendly materials such as soybean, the packaging maybe is not as eco-friendly and we are still stuck with the synthetics in that sense." French designer, Mathilde Rosset had tapestry double breasted coats with military buttons. Her material comes from the left over upholstery companies use for furniture. " It's environmentally in this way - I take leftover from the upholstery business because I love those fabrics, I always loved it," said Rosset. Chinese designer Andrew Wong for Vintage China, noted he had a similar experience of creating something from left overs. Next to him stood a model in a strapless denim gown with a long dragging tale made of denim scraps. "We were in the factory and we saw the scrap pieces on the floor," explained Wong. "It's trash, they were about to be dumped. Just trash but then we thought how can we recycle this. How can we make this sustainable? From somebody's trash we make a treasure." While "green" dominated one runway, leather, satin and chiffon will rule others. Separating the different lines from one another were professional dancers, including ballet dancers, break dancers, and traditional Hawaiian dancers. So I think young people really nowadays need to start to pay attention such things as buying organic cotton or buying from local people that will be help a lot." 5. various Models showcase the collection 6. SOUNDBITE, (English), Dorian Ho, Fashion Designer: "As you know people love to shop and when they shopping, they recycle lots of old cloth. So especially fashion, we have a trend, so every season you have new style, people would buy new cloth. So what are you going to do with your old stuff? So what I suggest is you can use your creativity and turn something old into new, for example, if you have a one piece dress, you can cut it into a top and a skirt and you can wear with different things, except throwing away." 7. various Models 8. Wide shot models STORYLINE: HONG KONG GOES ECO CHIC Trend-setters had a lesson in 'EcoChic' in Hong Kong on Thursday night as a special fashion show proved that living the life of luxury can be done in an environmentally friendly way. The event at the trendy W hotel rocked the Hong Kong glitterati to a more eco-friendly tune as the organisers, www.green2greener.com, invited business leaders, celebrities, socialites and fashion designers to the charity event. An eco-couture fashion show hit the catwalk with clothes made from organic-textiles or reconstructed vintage clothes made by Hong Kong and UK designers. Artists like Josie Ho, Joey Yung also donated items from their own collections to be sold on the internet in order to raise money for charity. Hong Kong designer Dorian claims that fashion is perfect for recycling and encourages people to re-use last seasons looks by updating clothes into something fresh, rather than throwing things away. The main focus of the event was to raise the awareness recycling and to improve environmental thinking, which is greatly needed in Hong Kong. Bhav - An expression of Ethical Fashion

02:19
Project "BHAV" focuses on developing a Fashion business with socio-economic impact. It highlights how a right amalgamation of business model, skills and resources can create a driving force for social and economical upliftment of small villages in developing countries like India. The project was carried out as a case-study on a small village situated in the northern part of India, named Ichhawar. As part of the case-study , a business-model was prepared for utilization of local resources (both material and human) to generate sustainable economic value for the villagers. The creation of this business model involved: 1. A detailed geographic, social and economic analysis of the village under study to understand availability of resources, feasibility of creating a resource network and ease of doing business in the region. 2.Identification and definition of environment friendly product range based on market need and resource availability. The product range developed as part of this project included duffel, clutch and tote bags. The entire product range was centered on social and economic benefit of the villagers including workshops and training sessions . 4. Creation of marketing and communication strategy to indirectly communicate the social cause and influence buying decisions . Further to creation of business-model, a product design strategy was prepared which incorporated all possible elements of a sustainable product. This includes Zero-Waste design, utilization of locally produced organic material and use of eco- friendly dyes and treatments. Based on the business model and product design, handcrafted samples of duffle, clutch and tote bag were developed as a proof-of concept along with product packaging and marketing materials. These sample bags were branded under the project name Bhav”. “Bhav” a Hindi word for “Expression”, used as part of this project to symbolize creativity and individuality of the craftsmen.

Various of Coven 2009 autumn/winter collection STORYLINE ECO FASHION Rio de Janeiro's autumn/winter runway collections took fashionistas into the rainforest and back in time as designers commemorated the Brazilian city's kaleidoscope of culture Monday (12 Jan. 2009). As spectators basque in the Marvelous City's summer heat, more than 45 fashion houses present winter wardrobes that integrate Rio's natural playfulness and laid back lifestyle. Redley designer Jurgen Oeltjenbruns took his eco-friendly designs outdoors, as he presented his pieces in Rio de Janeiro's 32-square-kilometer Tijuca rainforest. His collection included thick scarves and sweaters made from wool, bamboo mesh and cotton made from recycled materials. His colour palette was inspired by nature, using dark greens and brick orange to accentuate navy and brown displayed digitally-produced plaid and patchwork. Marina da Gloria's tents were transformed into a model of bohemian neighbourhood Lapa, as giant cloth drapes reproduced the area's famous arches. Coven brought the "new luxury" to the runway, as well as sporty designs reminiscent of the 1980's and riding pants inspired in stable life.
