Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. This video today is brought to you by Evenium, technology for corporate meetings: http://bit.ly/2iBFR2V I hear your struggle. I know how demanding your audience can be and how tough it is to find new ideas all the time. We came to the rescue with 5 cool and simple ideas you can use at your next corporate event to really make an impression. 1. Food Using F&B as a vehicle for branding in corporate events is the hot trend of 2018. Try having bartenders that create custom cocktails for your attendees, designed for each guest, they share a little bit about themselves and the bartender comes up with a mix to reflect their personality. A refreshing way to engage with a brand. Alcohol lollipops are a fun way of driving brand awareness and being playful while catering to an adult audience, a great combination for a corporate event environment. 2. Visual Collaboration The second idea I have for you is actually provided by the very sponsor of this video, Evenium, and it’s called Visual Collaboration, it’s a tool that I particularly like and enjoy because it’s very engaging for the audience. If you work with C level suite attendees in particular, you want to have technology tools that enable collaboration, especially around team building activities, small executive meetings, you probably want to encourage brainstorming in the room and using technology can really help to streamline that process, without relying on whiteboards. Tech can be extremely effective to gather input from everyone and have a moderator that pulls it all together and presents the results. 3. Meeting Design Mix up your room layout and furniture to avoid the usual classroom type of environment that really kills interest even before people enter the room. Experimenting can be incredibly important to keep attention and focus. We have a whole report on meeting design that is free to download on EventMB: http://eventmb.com/Meeting-Design 4. Clever Branding Number 4 is about clever branding, placing branding where you don’t expect it. One that I particularly love is the use of the logo or messaging on the staircase leading to the main conference room. A perfect photo opportunity for the guests, it makes a visual impact. If you have the capacity, work with your sponsors or internal stakeholders to create specific areas within the event, such as lounges and areas dedicated to different activities. Don’t just stick to the expected. Create the work area, the relax area, the meditation area… play with meeting design and be clever working with sponsors. 5. Graphic Recording If you have association style meetings, with content that is super technical, but still you need to engage your attendees, another idea for you is graphic recording. Having an artist on site recording what is happening, e.g. using cartoons, to really summarize what your speakers are saying, what the sessions are about, is a great way to visually summarize what is being discussed. Not everybody learns in the same way and it can be powerful. I’ve seen it at very high end corporate meetings, always loved by attendees. The perfect picture opportunity too in an era of social media. A fantastic way to make an impact in 2018. I hope you enjoyed these 5 ideas to jazz up your corporate events in 2018. Like human beings, companies are born (start up), go through growth, mature and decline, albeit with higher mortality rates at the early stages. In this session, I look at how the focus in corporate finance shifts as businesses age and the management skills that are required at each stage. I also look at the evolution of uncertainty and its effect on pricing and valuation across the life cycle. Slides: http://www.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/pdfiles/blog/corporatelifecycle.pdf

What is CORPORATE BRANDING? What does CORPORATE BRANDING mean? CORPORATE BRANDING meaning

04:09
What is CORPORATE BRANDING? What does CORPORATE BRANDING mean? CORPORATE BRANDING meaning - CORPORATE BRANDING definition - CORPORATE BRANDING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Corporate branding refers to the practice of promoting the brand name of a corporate entity, as opposed to specific products or services. The activities and thinking that go into corporate branding are different from product and service branding because the scope of a corporate brand is typically much broader. It should also be noted that while corporate branding is a distinct activity from product or service branding, these different forms of branding can, and often do, take place side-by-side within a given corporation. The ways in which corporate brands and other brands interact is known as the corporate brand architecture. Corporate branding affects multiple stakeholders (e.g., employees, investors) and impacts many aspects of companies such as the evaluation of their product and services, corporate identity and culture, sponsorship, employment applications, brand extensions (see study Fetscherin and Usunier, 2012). It therefore can result in significant economies of scope since one advertising campaign can be used for several products. It also facilitates new product acceptance because potential buyers are already familiar with the name. However, this strategy may hinder the creation of distinct brand images or identities for different products: an overarching corporate brand reduces the ability to position a brand with an individual identity, and may conceal different products' unique characteristics. Corporate branding is not limited to a specific mark or name. Branding can incorporate multiple touchpoints. These touchpoints include; logo, customer service, treatment and training of employees, packaging, advertising, stationery, and quality of products and services. Any means by which the general public comes into contact with a specific brand constitutes a touchpoint that can affect perceptions of the corporate brand. It has been argued that successful corporate branding often stems from a strong coherence between what the company’s top management seek to accomplish (their strategic vision), what the company’s employees know and believe (lodged in its organizational culture), and how its external stakeholders perceived the company (their image of it). Misalignments between these three factors, may indicate an underperforming corporate brand. This type of corporate brand analysis has been labeled the Vision-Culture-Image (VCI) Alignment Model. Changes in stakeholder expectations are causing an increasing number of corporations to integrate marketing, communications and corporate social responsibility into corporate branding. This trend is evident in campaigns such as IBM Smarter Planet, G.E. Ecomagination, The Coca-Cola Company Live Positively, and DOW Human Element. As never before, people care about the corporation behind the product. They do not separate their opinions about the company from their opinions of that company's products or services. This blending of corporate and product/service opinions is due to increasing corporate transparency, which gives stakeholders a deeper, clearer view into a corporation's actual behavior and actual performance. Transparency is, in part, a byproduct of the digital revolution, which has enabled stakeholders—employees, retirees, customers, business partners, supply chain partners, investors, neighbors—with the ability to share opinion about corporations via social media.

SWOT analysis in practice - Starbucks -------------------------------- Strategy analysis has two main branches – analysis of a firm’s external environment and analysis of a firm’s internal environment. SWOT is a famous framework that allows us to combine the two types of analysis. SWOT is sometimes referred to as internal-external analysis. The acronym SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The first two, Strengths and Weaknesses, are related to a firm’s internal environment, while the last two, Opportunities and Threats, consider its external environment. Internal strengths and external opportunities are vertically paired as helpful elements, while internal weaknesses and external threats are paired as harmful elements. if we perform a company analysis, under strengths, we would expect to see its core competences, the areas where the business excels and has a competitive advantage over competitors. Weaknesses are areas that need improvement. Such vulnerabilities place a company at a disadvantage when competing against other firms. Opportunities can be seen as favorable factors existing in a company’s external environment, in the industry where it operates, and have the potential to improve its current results and competitive positioning. Threats arise in a company’s external environment and might harm its current business.

Amazon's 14 Leadership Principles via Jeff Bezos

20:21
Amazon Interview Coaching: http://www.amazoninterview.coach/index.html#services --- 1. Customer obsession: start with the customer and work backwards; work vigorously to earn and keep customer trust; pay attention to competitors, but keep obsessing over customers 2. Ownership: think like an owner, long term and don’t sacrifice long-term value for short-term results; act on behalf of the entire company, not just for your own team; never say “that’s not my job" 3. Invent and simplify: expect and require innovation and invention from your team and always find ways to simplify; be externally aware, always look for new ideas from everywhere, and don’t be limited by “not invented here" 4. Leaders are right a lot 1:52 : you have strong judgment and good instincts; you seek diverse perspectives and work to disconfirm your beliefs 5. Frugality 3:50 : accomplish more with less. Constraints breed resourcefulness, self-sufficiency and invention. There are no extra points for growing headcount, budget size or fixed expense 6. Hire and develop the best 5:01 : raise the performance bar with every hire and promotion; recognize exceptional talent, and willingly move them throughout the organization; develop leaders and take seriously your role in coaching others 7. Earn trust 5:05 : listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully. Be vocally self-critical, even when doing so is awkward or embarrassing; leaders do not believe their or their team’s body odor smells of perfume; benchmark yourself and your team against the best. 8. Insist on the highest standards 7:42 : you have relentlessly high standards - many may think these standards are unreasonably high; you are continually raising the bar and driving your team to deliver high quality products, services and processes; defects do not get sent down the line and problems are fixed so they stay fixed 9. Bias for action 11:34 : speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk taking. 10. Learn and be curious 11:34 : you are never done learning and you always seek to improve; you are curious about new possibilities and act to explore them 11. Have backbone. Disagree and commit 13:26 : respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting; have conviction and be tenacious; do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion; once a decision is determined, commit to it. 12. Dive deep 13:26 : operate at all levels, stay connected to the details, audit frequently, and be skeptical when metrics and anecdote differ. No task is beneath you. 13. Think big 16:04 : thinking small is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Create and communicate a bold direction that inspires results. Think differently and look around corners for ways to serve customers. 14. Deliver results 16:04 : focus on the key inputs for your business and deliver with the right quality and in a timely fashion; despite setbacks, rise to the occasion and never settle

What is CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT? What does CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT mean?

04:02
What is CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT? What does CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT mean? CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT meaning - CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT definition - CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Corporate travel management (CTM) is the function of managing a company’s strategic approach to travel (travel policy), the negotiations with all vendors, day-to-day operation of the corporate travel program, traveler safety and security, credit-card management and travel and expenses ('T&E') data management. CTM should not be confused with the work of a traditional Travel Agency. While agencies provide the day-to-day travel services to corporate clients, they are the implementing arm of what the corporation has negotiated and put forth in policy. In other words, CTM decides on the class of service which employees are allowed to fly, negotiates corporate fares/rates with airlines and hotels and determines how corporate credit cards are to be used. The agency on the other hand makes the actual reservation within the parameters given by the corporation. For many companies T&E costs represent the second highest controllable annual expense, exceeded only by salary and benefits, and is commonly higher than IT or real estate costs. T&E costs are not only limited to travel (airline, rail, hotel, car rental, ferry/boat, etc.) but include all costs incurred during travel such as staff and client meals, taxi fares, gratuities, client gifts, supplies (office supplies and services), etc. Furthermore, this area often includes meeting management, traveler safety and security as well as credit card and overall travel data management. The management of these costs are usually handled by the Corporate Travel Manager, a function which may be part of the Finance, HR, Procurement or Administrative Services Department. Many companies, especially large multinationals (MNC), opt for global consolidation of their travel procurement. In other words, they may choose to put their entire purchasing of travel arrangements in the hands of one Travel Management Company (TMC). This is almost always done with a global Request for Proposal (RFP), through which the company will invite major TMCs to participate in the RFP. The process and the selection of the TMC could take several months. Once the company has chosen its TMC, the handling of their travel arrangements will be handled by the selected TMC through out the world. There could of course be exceptions in certain countries. The advantages of a global consolidation lie in the game of numbers: the company will be able to bring to the table, the advantage of global numbers, when negotiating with suppliers. These negotiations could include airlines, hotel chains, individual hotels (for specific reasons), car-rental companies etc. The main goal of going the route of global consolidation is to create savings in the company's T&E budget. The implementation of corporate travel management is often delegated to Travel Management Companies (TMC). These companies use Global Distribution Systems (GDS) to book flights for their clients. This allows the travel consultant to compare different itineraries and costs by displaying availability in real-time, allowing users to access fares for air tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars simultaneously. Examples of these companies include ATPI.
