The Business Model Canvas - 9 Steps to Creating a Successful Business Model - Startup Tips The Business Model Canvas, is a strategic management and entrepreneurial tool. It allows you to describe, design, challenge, invent, and pivot your business model. The Business Model Canvas is comprised of 9 key segments: The left hand section of the Business Model Canvas is the Infrastructure section and comprises three key areas: Key Activities: The most important activities in executing a company's value proposition. Key Resources: The resources that are necessary to create value for the customer. Partner Network: In order to optimize operations and reduce risks of a business model, organization usually cultivate buyer-supplier relationships so they can focus on their core activity. The middle section of the canvas describes the business offering and is the value proposition delivered to different customer segments. Value Propositions: The collection of products and services a business offers to meet the needs of its customers. According to Osterwalder, (2004), a company's value proposition is what distinguishes itself from its competitors. The value proposition provides value through various elements such as newness, performance, customization, "getting the job done", design, brand/status, price, cost reduction, risk reduction, accessibility, and convenience/usability. The value propositions may be: Quantitative – price and efficiency Qualitative – overall customer experience and outcome The right hand side of the Business Model Canvas describes the customers, the channels through which you deliver services and and the relationships you have with your customers. Customer Segments: To build an effective business model, a company must identify which customers it tries to serve. Various sets of customers can be segmented based on the different needs and attributes to ensure appropriate implementation of corporate strategy meets the characteristics of selected group of clients. Channels: A company can deliver its value proposition to its targeted customers through different channels. Effective channels will distribute a company’s value proposition in ways that are fast, efficient and cost effective. An organization can reach its clients either through its own channels (store front), partner channels (major distributors), or a combination of both. Customer Relationships: To ensure the survival and success of any businesses, companies must identify the type of relationship they want to create with their customer segments. The bottom section of the canvas describes the finances. Cost Structure: This describes the most important monetary consequences while operating under different business models. A company's DOC. Revenue Streams: The way a company makes income from each customer segment. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIypuA7lS-FsVG6cMlNCK2w?sub_confirmation=1 Check out some of our other videos Compensation claims - how long should it take https://youtu.be/NuxfrgSTg78 LLC vs S Corp https://youtu.be/4xNCnf9hitw Minizing tax https://youtu.be/ybSnFb6rx6Y How to fund a startup https://youtu.be/ctzDb59sw5M Kickstarter success Ep 1 https://youtu.be/2EG78JNZ7nA Kickstarter success Ep 2 https://youtu.be/ZMlq5CmUNz8 How to pitch to investors with Guy Kawasaki https://youtu.be/-epR-uGlv4M If you are interested in sustainability issues then check this video out The Sustainable Business Model Canvas https://youtu.be/gVimMEI2u2w

WELCOME TO EPISODE #16 of One Minute Wednesdays, the weekly power minute for entrepreneurs, CEOs, brands, and startups. Subscribe to our blog: http://www.RisingAboveTheNoise.com Free eBook: http://www.risingabovethenoise.com/download/the-lucky-brand-ebook-from-david-brier/ Grab your copy of Brand Intervention: http://a.co/ipzXVhr Companies and brands struggle with (and often wonder) why certain designs work. There’s an art and science to design. Getting it wrong loses you more than sales. It dilutes your brand’s foundation and meaning. This is the scope of this week's One Minute Wednesday, episode 16! Why Certain Designs Work Design isn’t a 4-letter word if you know the role of design and why a company brands in the first. Branding, as I’ve written before, is the art of differentiation. So what is design? Design actually fleshes out what the core of a brand really is. Design is the great amplifier in the world today. It’s the role of designers to breathe life and meaning into businesses and their brands, not merely decorate them to make them appear prettier. It’s what new designers often miss and surprisingly older brands often miss as well, treating it like cake decoration or buying clothes as in, “Does this make me look good?” with no further inspection than that. Let's return to food (since we started out with toast). You know what the finest chefs know? The purpose of salt. It’s one thing: to amplify the flavor in your dish rather than add flavor. Design is to a brand what salt is to food. Like I said, design is the great amplifier in the world today. Understanding this is the difference between knowing why certain designs work and others resembling unbuttered toast. business ideas | how to brand | discussion | startup | branding

Hey guys! My name is Sam, and today we're going to talk about what you should ask your client before creating their design brief. If at any point during the video you want to stop and contact us about our services, you can reach us at 888-601-5359. So what's the importance of a good design brief anyway? Well, creating a good design brief is the first crucial step to take in order to achieve great results for your clients. Here are a few important questions that you should ask your clients in order to create the perfect design brief for them. Question one: Can you tell me about your company? It's nearly impossible to create a design brief without getting to know the company that you're creating it for. It's crucial that you learn about their market, their industry, and even their competitors. Question two: What do you want to achieve with the design? In order to create the perfect design for a company, you first need to understand what they want to accomplish. You want to get a good idea of the goals the company has for their website, whether that be more conversions, more traffic, or more phone calls. From there, you'll be able to get an idea of what would make the perfect design brief for that company. Question three: Who's your target audience? Without understanding your clients' target audience, you won't be able to understand who they're marketing to with their web design, which won't lend itself well to creating the perfect design brief. You want to know things like the age of the typical customer, their income bracket, and other demographic information. Question four: What do you want me to produce? This is a hard-hitting question because it cuts right to the chase. With this question, you make it obvious to your client that you want to produce the best final product for them, and that you're truly interested in their ideas and goals for their website. Question five: What exists already? It's important to establish right away whether or not you're working with an already-established set of style and brand guidelines. Does the client already have business colors, a logo and brand guidelines? If so, it's important to note since you'll have to follow those guidelines to keep up with brand consistency. Question six: What makes a design good? What is good and effective for one client may not be the same for another. When you ask this question, you can gain an understanding of what a specific client is looking for and what details they'll be looking at the most. Question seven: What's your budget? Budget is a huge factor to consider and you'll need to get a grasp on a client's proposed spend right away. This will allow you to stay within their means and offer a solution that's realistic to what they're willing to spend on design. Question eight: What designs do you like? Get examples of creative work that your client loves, and encourage them to discuss what they like about each design. This will help you get a feel for the kind of design you should aim to create. Question nine: What designs don't you like? Equally as important, it's crucial to understand what design elements your client doesn't like. This will give you some things to stay away from and keep your client from asking for tons of revisions. Question ten: Tell me about your company's project workflow. It's a great idea to get the essential administrative points out of the way too. Find out what the sign off procedure for the design deliverables will be, and determine what hours they'll be able to work with you throughout the process. Find out how you'll communicate and also discuss group approval, decision making, and more. Do you have other questions that you found beneficial to ask your customers before a design brief? We'd love to hear about them in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

Speaker: Adam Connor By understanding what principles are and where they come from we can move beyond the lists of best practices and heuristics we’re all familiar with and create unique, consistent experiences. Inconsistency is one of the most common points of breakdown and frustration in the interactions and experiences we have. Whether we’re interacting with other people, applications, our bank, our doctor, our government, anyone, we form expectations and understandings of what someone or something will do based on our previous experiences and their past behaviors. When something happens that doesn’t fit with those expectations–that seems out of character–we’re caught off guard. What do we do next? What should we expect now? Principles act as rules that guide how we think and act. Formed by our motivations, values and beliefs, we use them as “lenses” through which we examine information in order to make decisions on what to do. And because of their persistent influence on our behavior, they influence other’s views and expectations of us. Using these same kinds of constructs throughout the design process we can design interactions and consistent behaviors that set and live up to expectations for our audiences.
