Footage of miracle sea rescue: Man survives for three days trapped in shipwreck using air bubble
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub Footage has emerged of the miraculous rescue of a Nigerian man who spent 62 hours trapped in an air bubble in an upturned tugboat under the ocean. After almost three days in the freezing cold water, 29-year-old Harrison Okene was discovered by divers. He had been the cook on board the Jascon-4 tugboat when it capsized on May 26 due to heavy Atlantic ocean swells off the coast of Nigeria. Somehow Okene survived, breathing inside a four foot high bubble of air as it shrunk in the waters slowly rising from the ceiling of the tiny toilet and adjoining bedroom where he sought refuge. Of the 12 people on board, divers recovered ten dead bodies, while a remaining crew member has not been found. Report by Sophie Foster. Most Amazing Cities Found UNDERWATER!
Here is the top list of mysterious sunken underwater cities in the world found underwater! These strange and mindblowing but also amazing forgotten ancient underwater ruins are located deep into the ocean. Check out Alexandria, City of Cuba, Yonaguni, Lake Titicaca, Pavlopetri, Lion City, Heracleion and more underwater cities! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "6 LOST Cities Around The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/0Jx6OToOXos Watch our "World's Most Dangerous And Beautiful Sinkholes!" video here: https://youtu.be/Cp5S6WWZsWc Watch our "Top AMAZING Facts About Planet Earth!" video here: https://youtu.be/2bo0p7ndMZY 1. Yonaguni Pyramids In the mid 80s, Divers found underwater rock terraces and pyramids off the coast of Yonaguni Jima. Yonaguni Jima is an island that lies near the southern tip of Japan's Ryukyu archipelago, About 75 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan. At first scientists believed they might be natural formations, but There are quarry marks and some writing on the stones and animal statues that have also been found underwater. Now some experts believe that The structures Could be what is left of the mythical city of Mu, a fabled Pacific civilization rumored to have vanished beneath the waves. Masaki Kimura, a marine geologist from the University of Japan, Has been studying the underwater pyramids for over 15 years. The underwater structures include castle ruins, a triumphal arch, five temples and at least one large stadium, all of which are Connected by roads and water channels and are partly shielded by what could be huge retaining walls. Kimura believes the ruins date back to at least 5,000 years, based on the dates of stalactites found inside underwater caves that he says sank with the city. The theory is that the ancient underwater city Might have been sunk by an earthquake or tsunami around 2,000 years ago. Yonaguni invites tourists and researchers to dive freely around the site. 2. Sunken City of Cuba In 2001, A company called Advanced Digital Communications (ADC) was working with Fidel Castro's government to explore Cuban waters looking for sunken Spanish ships loaded with treasure. Their Sonar equipment picked up a series of geometrical structures lying on the bottom of the ocean. Here's a computer generated image of the pyramids and other structures found underwater. The structures and design made it look like there was A gigantic underwater city at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle. The media went crazy claiming that Atlantis had been discovered in Cuba. There are local legends of the Maya and native Yucatecos that tell of an Island inhabited by their ancestors that vanished beneath the waves. If it's true the structures were made by an ancient civilization, they would have been the Most technologically advanced structures on the planet at that time. Scientists estimate that they would have been built about 50,000 years ago which doesn't seem very likely. The numerous structures and cities that have been discovered underwater around the world Lie less than 120 meters (or 395 feet) below sea level, which comes as no surprise since the sea level never fell below this mark during the time Homo sapiens walked the earth. This Cuban city, if we can call it that, is the Only exception since It is submerged over 700 meters (2300 feet) underwater. If the large structures are actually pyramids, 2 of them are Even larger than the pyramids of Giza and Cheops in Egypt. As of yet there is no plausible explanation for the existence of this city and ADC is still trying to investigate the site. 3. Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca is Located in the Andes between Bolivia and Peru. It is the largest freshwater lake in South America and was the cradle of Peru's ancient civilizations, including the Inca. Their presence can be seen on Lake Titicaca by the ruins they left behind, including A mysterious underwater temple thought to be between 1,000 and 1,500 years old. In the Incan creation myth, The god Con Tiqui Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca. After commanding the sun, moon, and the stars to rise, Viracocha created more human beings from stone. After bringing them to life, Viracocha Commanded them to go and populate the world. The Incas therefore believed that Lake Titicaca was their place of origin, and that upon death, Their spirits would return to this lake. Archeologists located a huge temple in 2000 after following a submerged road (and I'm sure following advice from locals). After 18 days of diving below the clear waters of Titicaca, scientists said they had Discovered a 660-foot long, 160-foot wide temple, a terrace for crops, and a 2,600-foot containing wall along with gold and statues. It is said the lost city was Covered with sediment during a great flood of biblical proportions and local people had passed down the stories of the underwater temple and flood from generation to generation.

Amazing VIDEO! Nigerian Cook Survives 2 Days Under Sea in Shipwreck Air Bubble
UPDATE.. ADDED SUBTITLES, Not 100% perfect But I think I got it pretty close. Just hit the CC button to turn them on. Came across this video on live leak and just had to share it, One of the most amazing caught on camera videos I have ever seen. This is the stuff they make movies about. This man was the cook aboard a tug boat that sunk to the bottom of the sea and sat on sea bottom upside down, after a few days, the hard had divers are sent in to try and recover any bodies they can. But a man is found ALIVE! he has been in an air pocket in the freezing water in Pitch black the entire time. How many of us would have lost our mind in his situation? You have no Idea how deep you are, you have to think no one is going to come for you and you are waiting to die. Just swim out? Pitch black and even if you know the ship like the back of your hand. the ship is upside down, up is down, left is right, you would most likely never find your way out and even if you did make it out you would most likely be holding your breath. A lung full of air that has become compressed at depth so when you swim to the surface you not being a diver would not be aware that you must blow out as your ascend, so you would end up with a burst lung and die from that, Even if you did manage to not blow a lung, you have been at depth for some time and you would get a very severe case of the bends as you would not be able to decompress properly, if you do not drown trying to find your way out, you may burst a lung, if you do not burst a lung you might get shallow water blackout before you get to the surface, if you do not black out you will die from the bends pretty quickly and painfully, if yo do not sink and drown first because the bends is causing so much pain in the joints and maybe effecting your brain function. So without the rescue divers this guy had no chance in hell. This guy is beyond lucky to be alive today. Great video, please watch and share. As a former Rescue and Divemaster, I can tell you I would have crapped my pants if I was looking for bodies in the dark with very low vis and suddenly a hand grabs your head. I found this video at live leak and thought it deserved more people to see it. I origionally found the video at this link http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=51e_1385934620 and it was uploaded there by live leak user ATACKA

How an Indonesian teenager who survived 49 days adrift at sea was rescued
A teenager has been rescued after surviving for 49 days adrift at sea in a fishing hut. Aldi Novel Adilang, 19, from Sulawesi in Indonesia, works as a lamp keeper on a floating fish trap, known locally as rompong, 125km out at sea. In mid-July, heavy winds snapped its moorings and it drifted to the ocean. The teenager had a few days' worth of supplies and survived by catching fish and cooking them by burning wood from his hut; he sipped seawater through his clothing to minimise his salt intake. The Indonesian consulate in Osaka said a Panamanian-flagged vessel, MV Arpeggio, picked him up in waters off Guam on 31 August – more than a month and a half later. Caged pig forensic experiment in the ocean
Dead pigs are used as models for human decomposition so that we can understand what happens to a body in the ocean as it decays, and use this information to interpret decompositional patterns and rates, as well as the marks left by scavengers, in human death investigations. Past experiments in this area showed high shark activity, so two pigs were placed: one caged and one exposed. This video features the experiment that was deployed on Feb 26, 2012. Caging successfully prevented sharks from accessing the body so that the carcass was colonized within minutes by small arthropods called amphipods, or 'sea lice'. These rapidly became several centimetres thick on the body and entered the carcass via the orifices, eating it from the inside out. The amphipods became so numerous that they covered the entire cage and bars and competitively excluded all other arthropods such as the big Three Spot Shrimp. In just a few days, the carcass was entirely skeletonized and the amphipods lost interest and left. Then the Three Spot Shrimp returned to pick at the carcass, eventually removing all the cartilage. After a few days a Giant Pacific Octopus was curious about the cage, scaring off a shrimp. The experiment was led by Dr. Gail Anderson and Dr. Lynne Bell (Simon Fraser University). This video was created by Jackson Chu, a PhD student, Marine Biology (University of Victoria). Michael Scott Moore: "The Desert and the Sea: 977 Days Captive on the [...] | Talks at Google
Michael Scott Moore, American journalist and author, talks about his experience as a hostage of Somali pirates (the topic of his new memoir, The Desert and the Sea: 977 Days Captive on the Somali Pirate Coast). Starting with details about piracy, to explain how he wound up in Somalia, Mike dives deep into the raw, emotional territory of hope, despair, hatred, and depression. With calm clarity of someone who’s survived a season in hell, Mike explains how he overcame his negative emotions and found a way to live without them -- and even to forgive his captors. This talk is just a teaser for the memoir itself, which is a suspenseful, page-turning thriller as well as a philosophical meditation. Gear yourself for this gut-wrenching voyage into the depths of despair, knowing that in the end, this captivating story truly has a happy ending. Get the book here: https://goo.gl/L1ufr4

Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. A sponge might not look like much, but these simple animals with no brain or ability to move have lived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years. They can hunt prey and spawn, and Jonathan demonstrates how in this fascinating segment about the biology of sponges! ********************************************************************** If you like Jonathan Bird's Blue World, don't forget to subscribe! Cleaning sponges are synthetic these days, but they used to come from the ocean. Back in the days before we had synthetic sponges for housework, cleaning sponges did come from the ocean. They were harvested by hard-hat divers walking along the ocean floor in heavy weighted boots with a rake-like tool to pluck the sponges off the bottom. It was a dangerous and difficult job. Bagfuls of sponges were lifted to the boat above. Immediately, the crew set to work cleaning the sponges. Then they were hung to air dry. After days or weeks at sea, when the boat was full of sponges, they were taken to shore, where they were auctioned to the highest bidder. Finally they were trimmed, sorted and sold to the public. Natural sponges are still harvested in nearly the same way today, but the synthetic sponge has spared the lives of countless ocean sponges! While an ocean sponge looks something like a weird plant, it's actually an animal. In fact, sponges are among the simplest multi-cellular animals on Earth. They live on the bottom of the ocean, attached to a surface and never moving because they can't walk or swim. Some are quite colorful, while others are drab. They also come in all shapes and sizes. There are tube sponges, vase sponges, barrel sponges, rope sponges, encrusting sponges and many other types. Sponges live from the frigid waters of the arctic and Antarctic, to the tropics. On many coral reefs, sponges dominate the sea floor and the drop off. One of the most common sponges on coral reefs is the barrel sponge. Barrel sponges grow to epic proportions, getting larger than a person! Although sponges can't walk or swim, they can feed. They do it by filtering tiny plankton from the water. A sponge is covered with small pores, called ostia, which lead to a system of internal canals and eventually out to one or more larger holes, called oscula. Within the canals of the sponge, chambers are lined with specialized cells called choanocytes, or collar cells. The collar cells have a sticky, funnel shaped collar and a hairlike whip, called a flagellum. The collar cells serve two purposes. First, they beat their flagella back and forth like fans to move water through the sponge. The water brings in nutrients and oxygen, while it carries out waste and carbon dioxide. Second, the sticky collars of the collar cells pick up tiny bits of planktonic food brought in with the water. Sponges are very effective filter feeders, since they are able to capture and eat particles as small as bacteria as well as much larger particles. They might not look like they are doing much, but a simple demonstration shows how effectively sponges can pump water. On a reef in the Caribbean, I make a dive with a syringe filled with a non-toxic dye called fluorescein. By squirting it around the base of some sponges, we can observe how the water is moving by watching what the dye does. Within only seconds, the dye is pumped through the sponges along with the water. As you can see, a sponge is a pretty good water pump, and also a good strainer. Any plankton that goes in with the water, won't come back out through the osculum. Tube sponges are even more spectacular to observe. They pump the dye so furiously that they look like a collection of miniature smoke stacks! Since sponges can't get together to reproduce, they spawn in a way similar to coral. The sperm is released into the water column by the male sponge and finds its way to the female sponges, where fertilization occurs internally. Eventually, the planktonic larvae are released from the female sponge and float around in the water column as plankton for only a few days. They then settle down and start growing. Sponges don't have many predators. There is not much nutritional value in a sponge and they're hard to digest. Hence, very few animals can eat sponges. But something was clearly eating this sponge! A sea turtle is the culprit. Sea turtles are one of the principal predators of sponges, along with a few species of fish and some invertebrates like nudibranchs.

Kris Larsen spent 104 days at sea in his junk-rigged sailbaot blown off course without an engine or any electronics. Mr. Larsen used celestial navigation forsaking GPS, EPIRBS, and even a toilet on his minimalist sailboat as he sailed around the world. His wife, Nat Uhing, wrote in her blog that his boat lacked basic electrical gear and an engine. She wrote: "...since he built his steel Chinese-junk-rigged sailboat and started sailing around without the usual engine, GPS, EPIRB, digital charts, radio, solar panels, water-maker, or toilet." Mr. Larsen and his wife dispute that this was a sailboat rescue. He only asked for a tow into Maui because there was no wind.
