Developing RESTful Web Services in Java

01:14:32
With the new major revision of the JAX-RS 2.0 API, a completely reworked reference implementation provided by Jersey 2.0 was released earlier this year. However, Jersey is not just a JAX-RS reference implementation. It also provides many additional features such as JSON binding support; integration with various containers and client transports (Grizzly, AHC, and so on); support for server-sent events (SSEs); MVC view templates (analogous to .NET Razor templates); and EclipseLink MOXy integration, with all its bells and whistles (JSON and XML bindings, custom object graphs, externalized descriptors, and so on). This session takes an in-depth look at these cool Jersey features that address additional use cases not covered by the standard JAX-RS API. Author: Marek Potočiar Marek Potociar is a Software Engineering Manager at Oracle. He's been involved with web services development for the last eight years. At present, Marek is a specification lead of Java EE RESTful web services API (JAX-RS) as well as the project manager and development lead of Jersey which provides the next major JAX-RS reference implementation release. Previous to this role Marek was leading development on Metro - The open-source SOAP web services framework for Java. An Introduction to Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) with Cucumber for Java

02:00:01
This tutorial TUT1607 looks at what Cucumber is good for—and what it isn’t. It briefly covers what behavior-driven development (BDD) is and how Cucumber helps deliver on the promise of improved communication between the business and the development team. Then it dives into how Cucumber works, the specific details of the Java version (Cucumber-JVM), and what makes it different from other similar tools. Finally, it considers how Cucumber can fit into your test automation strategy and produce "living documentation" that is always up to date. You will come away with everything you need to know to be able to decide whether BDD (using Cucumber-JVM) is for you. Speaker: Seb Rose, Developer & consultant, Claysnow Consultant, coach, designer, analyst and developer for over 30 years. Introduce Java Programming to Kids

01:02:14
Can software development concepts overwhelm a 10-year-old? Apparently not! Minecraft, a multiplayer game about placing blocks in a 3-D environment, includes modifications (known as mods ) written in Java that can alter the game. This session, presented by Oracle’s Arun Gupta and James Weaver, consists of two parts: 1. Gupta shares how his son taught him Minecraft and how he taught his son how to build a mod. In the process, Gupta taught his son several software development concepts. 2. Weaver demonstrates a tool that he and Gupta developed in Java/JavaFX that facilitates creating Minecraft mods, and he dives into the code to discuss relevant concepts. Viewers will learn a path that can be followed to introduce kids to programming in Java. Authors: James Weaver James L. (Jim) Weaver is a Java and JavaFX developer, author, and speaker with a passion for helping rich-client Java and JavaFX become preferred technologies for new application development. Books that Jim has authored include Inside Java, Beginning J2EE, and Pro JavaFX 2. His professional background includes 15 years as a systems architect at EDS, and the same number of years as an independent developer. As an Oracle Java Evangelist, Jim speaks internationally at software technology conferences. Jim blogs at http://javafxpert.com, tweets @javafxpert, and may be reached at james.weaver AT oracle.com. Developing new services in Java with Oracle Tuxedo 12c

07:29
With Oracle Tuxedo 12c, one can develop new Tuxedo services using Java programming language to extend existing C/C++/COBOL applications. Java services are deployed and coexist in the same container as C/C++/COBOL services, allowing one to manage and monitor applications written in different programming languages using same set of tools. Coexistence in the same container also optimizes transaction coordination across services written in different languages. Java services development is based on POJO programming model and uses JATMI based API. In addition, XA transactions and monitoring and management, equivalent to C/C++/COBOL services, are supported for Java services. For more information, see Tuxedo documentation at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/tuxedo/overview/index.html.
