Dow Chemical's "Mad Men"

02:27
While the "Mad Men" in this video aren't real, Dow Chemical's genetically engineered "Agent Orange" crops unfortunately are. Learn more about Center for Food Safety at www.centerforfoodsafety.org Have you heard of super weeds? Big industrial farms have been using so much of Monsanto's Roundup herbicide on Roundup Ready genetically engineered crops, the weeds have evolved resistance. They spray the herbicide on the plant in hopes that it will kill everything other than the genetically engineered corn or soybeans. But when the weeds survive, industrial farms turn to older, more toxic chemicals like 2,4-D to kill them. While "superweeds" are a real problem for America's farmers, they apparently aren't a problem for Dow Chemical. In fact, Dow welcomed it in glowing terms as "a new era" and "a very significant opportunity" for chemical companies like Dow Chemical. A significant opportunity? Dow Chemical wants to put even more toxic 2,4-D on our food crops and we're just supposed to eat it? What on Earth were they thinking? We started to wonder what that conversation must have been like for Dow Chemical to determine how to market a toxic product, and we think it may have gone something like this. What is 2,4-D? It is half of the highly toxic chemical mixture called Agent Orange that the military used as a defoliant during the Vietnam War. 2,4-D has been linked to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, lowered sperm counts, liver disease, and Parkinson's disease. Studies have also demonstrated the chemical's adverse effects on hormonal, reproductive, neurological, and immune systems. To make matters worse, 2,4-D is the 7th largest source of dioxins in the U.S. Dow Chemical insists that the use of 2,4-D is safe. But they also assured the public that an insecticide called Dursban was safe...until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fined Dow Chemical $800,000 for illegally withholding over 250 reports of poisonings, including many that occurred even when the product was used correctly. And they expect us to trust their word on the safety of 2,4-D? Dow Chemical is asking the USDA for permission to sell these "Agent Orange" Crops, unlabeled, to the public.

Safety in Numbers: How Toxicologists Keep us Safe from Harmful Chemicals

03:26
Nicholas Ball is a Toxicology Consultant working with Dow Chemical in Zurich, Switzerland. As part of the Royal Society of Chemistry's 'Faces of Toxicology' series he speaks about his role as a toxicologist with one of the world's largest chemical manufacture companies. Making sure that chemicals are not harmful to people or the environment is a big part of his role. Dow produces plastics, pharmaceuticals, coatings, water purification substances and agricultural chemicals for use across the world. It is currently the world's second largest chemical company, so it is imperative that safety is at the forefront of everything it does. Nicholas collects toxicology data, prepares safety summaries, coordinates tox testing programmes and sends his findings to people working across the company. He conducts scientific research and works with regulators to create better safety legislation. This film was commissioned by the Royal Society of Chemistry's Toxicology Group. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dow_Chemical_Company http://www.rsc.org/ http://www.rsc.org/Membership/Networking/InterestGroups/Toxicology/

Vote DOW Chemical for Greenwash Gold 2012

00:52
Vote Dow Chemical for Greenwash Gold 2012: http://www.greenwashgold.org/index.php/dow The Dow Chemical Company has a long, sordid, history of environmental crimes spanning many decades. They produced Agent Orange to be sprayed on innocent Vietnamese people; they lied about the safety of their products, while people were being poisoned; they bribed officials in order to register banned, dangerous pesticides; and they've regularly poisoned the rivers and the air around their factories. After World War II, who do you think employed the Nazi scientist responsible for developing the gas that killed millions of Jews? Step forward Dow Chemical. Dow GreenwashGoldBut, we are the Bhopal Medical Appeal, and our main issue with Dow is their connection to the 1984 Bhopal Gas disaster and the ongoing chemical contamination that sees, to this day, thousands of people drinking water heavily contaminated with dangerous chemicals. The Bhopal Gas Disaster began on the night of the 2nd/3rd December 1984 at a Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal, India. The Dow Chemical Company acquired the Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), back in 2001, and are happy to claim that they have nothing to do with the disaster. Just one simple set of facts should explain otherwise: In 1987, UCC were criminally charged with 'Culpable Homicide' for the gas disaster and Dow knew full well it was acquiring UCC's criminal liability when they merged. Dow was summonsed, by the Bhopal Courts, in 2005 and asked why it had not produced UCC but the summons remains unanswered and UCC remains a fugitive from justice. Dow maintains that UCC remains a separate business or legal entity to Dow. But Dow owns 100% of the shares, elects every director to the board, and the current UCC CEO is even a senior Dow official. Dow has accepted liability for asbestos related claims against UCC, in America, yet still refuses to accept any liability for UCC's past business in Bhopal. Meanwhile, in Bhopal, people are still drinking poison every day. They are becoming very sick and their babies are being born with all sorts of terrible problems. Dow, for their part, are happily 'greenwashing' themselves with their Olympic, and PARAlympic, sponsorship. Dow Chemical was put forward by the Bhopal Medical Appeal. Safety Video | Nothing is Routine

02:31
The "Nothing is Routine" safety video was created for the Midland Michigan Site to remind employees that we often forget that there are dangers even in our most routine tasks. The idea behind this video was to show three different activities that employees complete daily such as walking, office work, and working a product line. During these activities users can lose focus on safety and injury can and will occur. It was our goal to put the audience into these three situations and then show them the possible outcome if they are distracted and become complacent. This video is the property of the Dow Chemical Company and should not be used for any training purposes. Videographer: Tom Sheahan

DuPont vs. the World: Chemical Giant Covered Up Health Risks of Teflon Contamination Across Globe

34:33
https://democracynow.org - Broadcasting from the Sundance Film Festival, we are joined by three guests who personally battled with DuPont and are featured in the new documentary called “The Devil We Know,” that looks at how former DuPont employees, residents and lawyers took on the chemical giant to expose the danger of the chemical C8, found in Teflon and countless household products—from stain- and water-resistant apparel to microwave popcorn bags to dental floss. The chemical has now been linked to six diseases, including testicular and kidney cancers. We speak with Bucky Bailey, whose mother worked in the Teflon division of a DuPont plant in West Virginia while she was pregnant with him, and who was born with only one nostril and a deformed eye and has undergone more than 30 surgeries to fix the birth defects; Joe Kiger, lead plaintiff in a class action lawsuit against DuPont, and a school teacher in Parkersburg, West Virginia, who suffered from liver disease; and Rob Bilott, the attorney that brought DuPont to court. Dow Chemical to Buy $5 Billion More in Shares, Raises Dividend

00:39
Dow Chemical, the No. 1 U.S. chemical maker by sales, increased its dividend and said it would buy back shares worth $5 billion, more than doubling its share repurchase program. Dow and rival Dupont are facing investor pressure to raise shareholder returns by divesting businesses that are exposed to swings in prices of commodities. Dow, which is being pushed by hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb to split up, said it would complete its previous $4.5 billion share repurchase program by the end of the year. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/businessNews/~3/EtR79yqbvBE/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

What does BIOLOGICAL HAZARD mean? BIOLOGICAL HAZARD meaning. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Biological hazards, also known as biohazards, refer to biological substances that pose a threat to the health of living organisms, primarily that of humans. This can include medical waste or samples of a microorganism, virus or toxin (from a biological source) that can affect human health. It can also include substances harmful to other animals. The term and its associated symbol are generally used as a warning, so that those potentially exposed to the substances will know to take precautions. The biohazard symbol was developed in 1966 by Charles Baldwin, an environmental-health engineer working for the Dow Chemical Company on the containment products. It is used in the labeling of biological materials that carry a significant health risk, including viral samples and used hypodermic needles. In Unicode, the biohazard symbol is U+2623.

Chemicals in food: establishing safe levels

03:30
Our bodies, our environment and our food are all made up of chemicals. Most of the chemicals in food are harmless or even beneficial such nutrients like proteins, fats and fibre. However, some chemicals in food can pose a risk if we are overexposed to them. That is why scientists establish 'health-based guidance values', that is safe levels of use, to protect consumers. Watch and listen to one of EFSA's toxicologists explains how scientists set these safe levels. For more information: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/faqs/faqchemicalsinfood.htm

Trump's EPA is allowing a 'NERVE GAS' pesticide to be sprayed on your food: Did President Donald Trump Reverse an Insecticide Ban After Receiving $1 Million from Dow Chemicals? The Trump administration reversed a previous decision to ban the use of a common insecticide, and it did receive money from that chemical's manufacturer. Chlorpyrifos, an insecticide with origins in Nazi Germany, was set to be banned by the EPA over health and environmental safety concerns, but President Trump reversed this decision after Dow Chemicals, a manufacturer of the chemical, donated one million dollars to his inauguration fund.
