Really, when we're at altitude, our bodies start to adapt to the lower oxygen and change the way we transport oxygen to our tissues. One way we do that is by releasing EPO, which increases our red blood supply. How Altitude Training works

02:17
http://www.altitudedream.com - At least a solid minority, if not a majority, of medal contenders in the Olympic distance races have trained at altitude in recent months. Why do they bother, given that their hard workouts and even daily runs will be slower than if they were to train at sea level? The charming video below explains the basics of altitude training, including altitude-simulating tents that allow runners to train at normal speed at sea level while spending their sedentary hours up at altitude. Global vs Local Sea Level

02:39
Rising global sea level is one of the most commonly cited consequences of climate change, but it’s often unclear how it might affect people living on the coasts. A rise in global sea level occurs due to the warming of the ocean and the addition of fresh water into the ocean basins from melting ice on land. Local sea level, known as relative sea level change, is affected by global sea level fluctuations, changes in land elevation, winds, and ocean circulation. How to Prevent and Treat Altitude Sickness in Peru (From Cusco)

04:34
Most people who visit Machu Picchu (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d09AwPp5nag) go through the beautiful city of Cusco, which is over 11,000 feet above sea level. Altitude sickness can be an issue in either place so I made this video on how to prevent and treat altitude sickness, with the Cusco Cathedral in the background. I had put off my trip to Peru for years due to the fact that I suffered altitude sickness once before in the U.S. and didn't want to go through that again. However, even though it did hit me in Peru, it was not as nearly as bad as I anticipated, due to the precautions I took.

High Altitude Baking & Cooking Lecture: Part One

07:27
Full three part video series and show notes found here: http://stellaculinary.com/podcasts/video/high-altitude-baking-cooking-the-science-tips-tricks As most of you are already aware, cooking at altitude will effect the food you're preparing, sometimes causing undesirable results. Food items that heavily rely on water's boiling point, such as pasta, potatoes, and braising meat, will simply take longer to cook since the boiling point of water is reduced at altitude. Cakes, breads, and pastries also have a tendency to dry out, crack, and deflate starting at around 3,000 feet (914 meters). To understand why this happens, you must first grasp the science behind water. When you stop to think for a moment, a lot of cooking has to do with controlling water in its various states. Since most items you cook contain water, or will require a water based cooking method, understanding how water acts at altitude is the first step to mastering high altitude cooking. To master cooking and baking at altitude, the first concept you must understand is atmospheric pressure. When you're standing at any given point on the earth, you have air above you. This air has a weight, and the downward force caused by the ever-present weight of air, is known as atmospheric pressure. It makes sense then if you're standing at sea level, which has an elevation of zero, you will have more air above you, thus more atmospheric pressure, than if you were at a higher elevation. Now the next concept you need to understand is... Continue reading: http://stellaculinary.com/podcasts/video/high-altitude-baking-cooking-the-science-tips-tricks

Elevation - Video Learning - WizScience.com

02:04
The "elevation" of a geographic location is its height above or below a fixed reference point, most commonly a reference geoid, a mathematical model of the Earth's sea level as an equipotential gravitational surface . Elevation, or "geometric height", is mainly used when referring to points on the Earth's surface, while altitude or geopotential height is used for points above the surface, such as an aircraft in flight or a spacecraft in orbit, and depth is used for points below the surface. Less commonly, elevation is measured using the center of the Earth as the reference point. Due to equatorial bulge, there is debate as to which of the summits of Mt. Everest or Chimborazo is at the higher elevation, as the Chimborazo summit is further from the Earth's center, while the Mt. Everest summit is higher above mean sea level. A topographical map is the main type of map used to depict elevation, often through use of contour lines. In a Geographic Information System , digital elevation models are commonly used to represent the surface of a place, through a raster dataset of elevations. Digital terrain models are another way to represent terrain in GIS. The elevation of a mountain usually refers to its summit. The elevation of a hill also refers to the summit. A valley's elevation is "usually" taken from the lowest point, but is often taken all over the valley. This map is derived from GTOPO30 data that describes the elevation of Earth's terrain at intervals of 30 arcseconds . It uses color and shading instead of contour lines to indicate elevation. FAA Part 107: Calculating Pressure Altitude for Pilots

02:38
Download the Density Altitude Chart used in this video: http://bit.ly/2xhY2Rc Watch the previous video in this series: https://youtu.be/cssf-ksnMlQ For the best prices on the latest drones, visit B&H online at: https://bhpho.to/2tNu7m6 In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew helps you prepare for your Part 107 pilot's test by teaching you how to calculate pressure altitude: the altitude your aircraft “feels” like it's flying at, based on its elevation above sea level as well as the local atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure drops as altitude increases, making airfoils, like wings and propellers, less efficient. However, atmospheric pressure is also affected by high pressure and low pressure weather systems. This is reflected in the local barometric pressure reading, measured in inches of mercury and also referred to as the altimeter setting. By reference the local altimeter setting and the density altitude chart, you can determine your pressure altitude.

The Colle Delle Agnello, the highest point of this year's Giro D'Italia at 2744m, has 25% less oxygen concentration. What does this mean for the riders? They will be breathing harder and producing more lactic acid, and depending on the individual, power outputs can drop markedly. It's become increasingly common for teams to spend time in high altitude areas like Colorado, Andorra and Tenerife to help their bodies acclimatise to riding in thin air. Simon and Matt did some testing in the state of the art altitude chamber at the University of Kent to see how their bodies were affected by the reduced available oxygen. Watch more on GCN... Top 5 Fastest 0-60 MPH Cars @1 Mile above sea level

07:09
( http://www.TFLcar.com ) What's the fastest car from 0-60 MPH at 1 mile above sea level? That's pretty straightforward question and one that we are prepared to answer. In the first half of 2012 we've tested a lot of fast cars from 0-60 MPH at altitude. As you may know less air also means less power so our 0-60 MPH times are different from those at sea level. Also turbocharges and supercharges help to make up for the power loss. So what Top 5 Fastest 0-60 MPH Cars @1 Mile Above Sea level in 2012? Watch this video to find out.

why is elevation from the sea level written at the Indian railway station

01:30
why is elevation from the sea level written at the Indian-railway station Indian Railways is the second largest rail network in the world. Even today, many youths prepare for many competitive examinations to get jobs on the railway. In this way, we are talking about the things you have never noticed. Have you ever wondered why 'height above sea level' is written under the board on railway stations? What is the reason behind this? Let's know On the board is used to measure the 'height from sea level'. However, it does not make sense to travelers. It is used for train drivers. We all know that our earth is round. In such cases, such a floor is needed to measure the scientists. Who remained the same. There is no better option than a sea. Scientists have considered it better. The advantage of writing height from sea level is that if a train is going 200 meters above sea level, the train is going to the height of 300 meters sea level. The driver can easily guess about the speed of the train and how much he does not. Apart from this, it helps in giving a uniform height to electric wires on the train. By which the electric wire is in contact with the train wires all the time. In the railway recruitment exams, only a few questions are asked about the railway, which is important to know about. #indianrailway #railwaystation #todaynews24x7 Watch other Videos-https://goo.gl/A6TF8g TV News-https://goo.gl/jt2W5T Weird News-https://goo.gl/j6pbs3 Bollywood News-https://goo.gl/5zUa6L Health-https://goo.gl/H8PXaZ People & Blog-https://goo.gl/F8ywr8 Sports News-https://goo.gl/mfxp5h How To & Styles-https://goo.gl/y4ZMpi Autos & Vehicles-https://goo.gl/Wi2Xfv Science & Technology-https://goo.gl/fZfk2q Please, Like, share, subscribe to the latest News & Updates, Don't Forget To Click The Bell Icon. Adventures with Altitude Sickness

03:48
I did the Huayhuash circuit in Peru in 2012. This was the highest altitude I've ever been to in my life (5000m). I live at sea level in Australia, where our highest mountain is only 2228m. This was the first time in my life I've felt the affects of having less oxygen, especially whilst exercising. Basically, I felt pretty crap - most of the time, with one particular day when I really just wanted to stop, sleep, be left behind - recognised by some as the symptom called, 'the *uck it factor'. You just can't be arsed to do anything and want to be left alone in your own personal little world of pain.
