Sea of Stars - Vaadhoo Island, Maldives
As night falls on certain beaches around the world, the waves glow with an eerie blue light, neon dots that make it look as though stars are washing up on shore. What you’re seeing is actually millions of microscopic organisms called bioluminescent phytoplankton. Some of the most spectacular photographs have been captured from one location, Vaadhoo island, Maldives, which has been nick named the sea of stars. The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. Thanks for watching. ____________________________________________________________________ ► Wonder World Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wonderworld.ytc.10 ► Wonder World Twitter - https://twitter.com/WonderWorld_YTC For business enquiries, content submission or copyright concerns or disputes, please contact us me

Bioluminescent waves in San Diego, Red Tide Blue Waves
When conditions are right (or wrong) the algea off the coast blooms and can create Red Tides. When the algea gets excited by the movement of the wave it triggers the bioluminescence, a defense response. The more algea the more light. This was shot mainly in Del Mar and Solana Beach. In 15 years, I've only seen it once like this. Music: The Descent by Kevin MacLeod

Bioluminescent Wadden-Sea, (Sea Sparkle) Zeevonk Terschelling (2nd Night) 03-06-2017
Having had a total blast’ the night before with my first ever Sea Sparkle experience, and with one last night on the island before my vacation was over, I decided to head back to the same location ‘hoping the waves would again sparkle.. At first on arrival it seemed it wasn’t there that night.. The waves were gone, with the water being almost like a reflection so calm.. I was about to put my attention on capturing some more Milky Way timelapses when a boat passed by on the horizon entering the harbor.. It had blue bright sparkling Sea Sparkle in the bow wake and beside the boat! That’s when my eye caught the blue glow in the waters alongside the side of the dike on the side of the harbor.. (I had been looking at the wrong side of the dike..) The Sea Sparkle had been heaped up by the low and high tides making it a lot thicker this time, close towards the thickness of syrup , causing it to be much brighter and even to make sparkling noise! ---It was playtime! (literally;-) cause my shoes were soaked afterwards. LOL
13 Glowing ALIEN Fish From The Deep Sea
From Fluorescent Viperfish and Bioluminescent Catsharks to Glowing Anglerfish and Genetically Modified Glofish. These are 13 Glowing Fish. SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR 13 GloFish Let’s start off this video about fish that glow, with GloFish! They are a patented and trademarked brand of genetically engineered fluorescent fish. The first fluorescent zebrafish were created at the National University of Singapore in 1999, by scientists trying to make a fish that would detect pollution by glowing in toxic waters. They combined the zebrafish embryo with genes that encode fluorescent proteins from jellyfish and sea coral. Yorktown Technologies, a company from Austin, Texas, bought the worldwide marketing rights to the fluorescent fish and in 2003, introduced the GloFish in the United States. It is the first and only genetically engineered animal to be publicly available and can only be found in the US. 12 Stoplight Loosejaw At number 12, we have the first naturally glowing fish on our list, the Stoplight Loosejaw. A type of barbeled dragonfish, it lives in the mesopelagic areas of all oceans. The mesopelagic zone is between 200 and 1000 metres below the surface of the water. Sunrays usually stop well before the 1 kilometre mark so creatures living here need to adapt to the darkness. Like our loosejaw, who lurks below the waters looking for zooplankton, with its huge mouth wide open, while using bioluminescence to look for Copepods, its favourite food. It is called a Stoplight Loosejaw because it has two big photophores, one red and one green and they look like the colors on a traffic stoplight. Due to the way light travels and dissipates in deep water, the red photophore allows it to see prey without being detected. They are also called rat-trap fish because of the unusual open structure of their jaws. 8 Cookiecutter Shark Moving on to the Cookiecutter Shark, or the Cigar Shark, an oceanic fish that likes to swim at depth of over 3 kilometres below the water. The name "cookiecutter shark" refers to its feeding habit of gouging round plugs, as if cut out with a cookie cutter, out of larger animals. Marks made by cookiecutter sharks have been found on a wide variety of marine mammals and fishes, as well as on submarines, undersea cables, and even human bodies. But the Cookiecutter Shark also glows in the dark, one of the most glowing of all fish, it’s bioluminescence persists up to 3 hours after being out of water. The photophores are strategically places on its underside to disrupt the light coming from above, confusing predators and hiding it’s real silhouette. 7 Lanternfish This method of camouflaging yourself with light is also used by the the Lantern Fish. A species of small, deep water fish, it is one of the most widely distributed fish. It is estimated that 65% of the oceans biomass are Lanternfish, with 246 species discovered so far. Small fish, they are between 2 and 30 centimetres long, although most of them stay well under 15 centimetres. They are masters of disguise, using their bioluminescence and counterillumination to confuse predators and mask themselves on the bottoms of the oceans. Thy also have gas bladders that confuse other fish that use echolocation or sonars. 2 Viperfish Next we take a closer look at the Viperfish. They are between 30 and 60 centimetres long and live in tropical and temperate waters and swim at great depths, 1500 metres below sea level during the day and down to 4000 metres during the night. They have snake like bodies and long, needle like teeth, and they are really ugly. They are predatory fish and feed on almost anything they gets their teeth into. The Viperfish has 3 types of photophores on its body, used mainly to attract prey. They have microscopic spheres all over their dorsal side, large spheres with pigment, reflector and lens, and finally, large, bell shaped organs grouped together along the dorsal surface. Although it may look like the viperfish is covered in scales, it is in fact covered by a thick, transparent coating of an unknown substance. 1 Anglerfish And at number one, probably the most famous and bizzare glowing fish, the Anglerfish. There are many types of Anglerfish, all over the globe, living at a variety of depths. But what all Anglerfish species have in common are their huge mouths full of razor sharp teeth and the esca, a fleshy growth on their heads, that houses light producing bacteria, and acts like bait for their prey, luring them straight into the fishs mouth. Anglerfish are a delicacy. Some Anglerfish species are a source of food. In North America, Europe and East-Asia, Goosefish are widely used in cooking and is often compared to a lobster tail in taste and texture. In Asia, especially in Korea and Japan, the liver of the Monkfish is considered a delicacy.

Bio-luminescent plankton are highly unpredictable in the Maldives. There is no time through the year that you can guarantee seeing it. And don’t believe anyone that tells you otherwise. So let’s go into the complex science behind the concept for a little while. They excrete a chemical blob onto the environment that they currently are in (usually in the water). It is a survival tactic so that the predators will target their attention to the glowing flicker of light. Which is why they usually glow when threatened. Hence the post movement glow. Meaning, if you move your hands across the field of plankton it will glow in an instant and slowly fade out, and this also occurs not only in the Maldives, but the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Jamica. There are some people giving out different months of high possibility between mid-summer and autumn.[ August - November ] توهج شواطئ جزيرة فادهو بالملديف بسبب تزايد الأعشاب البحرية أو العوالق النباتية على هذه الشواطئ تسمى ب:فايتوبلانكتون تنتشر قبالة الشاطئ وعلى رماله، ويعتقد العلماء أنها تتوهج بهذه الطريقة العجيبة لتخيف أعداءها ▁ ▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▃ ▂ ▁ Thank for watching! Mosquito Bay or Bio Bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico is an amazing place. It is the brightest glowing bioluminescent bay in the world. I jumped on a few kayak tours during the night of a new moon and saw this incredible light show. Honestly, it was more amazing that I imagined. I had read a review or two, but wasn't sure if it was worth the trip to the island. It was. The bay is extremely bright, and until now, it was very hard to capture on camera. I recently picked up a Sony a7s which is a beast in low light, and was impressed with that it could capture. This has rarely ever been caught on Camera. The government is doing a good job at keeping this place pristine. In some areas of the world you can jump in, splash around, use gasoline engines, and generally just destroy the ecosystem these little guys live in. Here in Vieques, Puerto Rico, you are not allowed to swim, or use gasoline. Nearby light pollution has to be kept to a minimum, and there give Bio Bay some days off now and again to recover. This is probably why it remains the brightest in the world. High Five for sustainable eco tourism. I wish everywhere was this forward thinking. This was one of my best travel experiences. Bioluminescent beaches (Glowing Beaches) around the WORLD
Fascinating and sparkling creatures that give a new face to the beach It is a fact that there are living creatures that remain hidden in darkness, in the depths of the ocean… Nonetheless, there are others as the noctiluca scintillans –also known as the sea sparkle- whose main ability is ‘shining’, thus creating a night show that’s almost impossible to forget for those lucky ones that get to witness it. These microorganisms are part of the plankton in the ocean, so when they detect 'threatening' movement nearby, they produce a chemical reaction that projects a cold light, creating a bioluminescent effect over the water, a natural phenomenon that can be observed in some destinations worldwide. According to the University Of California Museum Of Paleontology, when dinoflagellates are touched, a chemical reaction takes place within their bodies. As the reaction takes place, their bodies glow a light greenish-blue color, and because there is a high concentration of about approximately 720,000 of these organisms just in this bay alone, every moving area of water takes on their glowing effect. It is amazing to kayak through these waters, with every smooth stroke of the paddle leaving a luminous trail in its path. 12 Glowing Beaches in the WORLD: 1. Mudhdhoo Island This island in The Maldives offers a different kind of glow. The organisms at this beach seem to glow individually, causing the ocean to look like a cluster of bright spot, rather than a glowing ocean. These organisms also emit light for longer, so you’ll be able to see the glow without moving around too much. 2. Pandangbai Port Located on the Indonesian island of Bali, this is the perfect place to see bioluminescence take place under water. You can go snorkeling to view these organisms lighting up, or you can take a boat out of the water. The more the organisms are disturbed, the brighter they glow, so make sure you are in the water and moving around to see the light show. 3. Mosquito Bay This small, bioluminescent bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico is a small, hidden river that does indeed glow at night. 4. Luminous Lagoon This lagoon in Trelawny, Jamaica is a popular tourist attraction due to its natural occurring bioluminescence. This lagoon is one of the brightest in the world due to its warm climate. 5. Toyama Bay ‘Firefly squid’ are the main reason this bay near the Japan Sea glows. These squid usually live deep under water, but due to a canyon in the bay, these squid get pushed to the surface, almost as if it were made for our viewing pleasure. 6. Mission Bay In this part of San Diego, the waves of the ocean are red during the day, and neon blue at night due to the mass amounts of bioluminescent algae. Sometimes these algae can emit toxins that are dangerous to our health, so make sure you check out the satellite imagery for the day to see if you can go for a swim or not. 7. Halong Bay This heritage site in Vietnam is another bay that features bioluminescence from movement. If you move through the water, a glowing trail will follow you. These waters are made for swimming, and you’ll see some pretty cool effects if you decide to dive in. 8. Jersey This island is located in the United Kingdom, and features bioluminescent walks where you can witness the “stars below your feet”. 9. Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon East coast Florida offers some amazing boat tours of these areas in the summer to view some of the bioluminescence in the area. These tours are set up at night when the lights are the brightest. 10. Torrey Pines Beach Similar to Mission Bay, this San Diego beach features red waves during the day and blue waves at night. This beach, however, is a little spottier with its occurrences of bioluminescence. 11. Manasquan Beach This New Jersey beach is very similar to Torrey Pines Beach when it comes to consistency, but when the tide is low, you can witness the brilliant red and blue colors that come from the algae. It’s best to witness this bioluminescence in the summer months between July and September, and the lights are much more vibrant at night than they are during the day. 12. Gippsland Lakes Since 2008, the bioluminescence in this lake in Australia has been dimming slowly but surely. Of course the light is still visible, but it must be the right time of night, and will be very faint. If you do get the opportunity to see the glow, these waters are definitely safe for swimming, so dive in and surround yourself with the light that will surround you in the water.

A Glow-In-The-Dark Beach In The Maldives
Holidaymakers in destinations like the Maldives are sometimes treated to a natural phenomenon that turns the night-time ocean into a field of glowing stars. As waves break on the sandy shore or bare feet step into wet sand a bright green-blue glow appears. This magical effect is caused by bioluminescent plankton that often appears in warm coastal waters. What makes bioluminescent plankton glow Scientists have only recently discovered that this type of plankton glows when they are moved because of stress - ironic when you consider how relaxing the sight of the shimmering waves are in the dark night. Bioluminescence is used as a defence mechanism to draw predators towards the creature trying to eat the plankton. The tiny flashes of light also disorientate and surprise the predator. These tiny organisms produce light using a chemical called luciferin. The process of creating a bioluminescent light, which is simply light produced within a living creature, differs between organisms. Some need a particular food or another creature for the effect to happen. But this type of plankton, called dinoflagellates, produce luciferin on their own. The light the tiny plankton emit is called ‘cold light’, meaning less than 20% of the light generates heat.  Huge areas of the ocean can become populated by glowing plankton but the effect is especially common in warm-water lagoons that have narrow openings to the sea. This causes the plankton to gather and become trapped, causing the water to turn orange.

BBC - Attenborough's- LIFE That GLOWS - HD 720p.
Attenborough’s Life That Glows Luminous beings, creatures with their own internal light, enchant and astonish us. Anyone who has seen a firefly or a glow-worm cannot help but fall under their spell. The sea at night sparkles as millions of luminous plankton reveal the shapes of dolphins in a truly magical light show. But why do animals produce living light? For centuries we could only marvel at the beauty and the mystery, but now for the first time we can begin to reveal the amazing truth about living lights. It has taken three crucial technological breakthroughs. Firstly, colour cameras have improved dramatically; they are now over 4,000 times more sensitive than a decade ago. The cameras are so sensitive they are revealing startling discoveries that until now we could not see. Secondly, scientists have entered the unknown world of the boundless deep open ocean with the help of a new generation of submersibles and robots. Thirdly, Ammonite Films have invented and built a series of unique cameras that can capture the faintest ephemeral glow of luminous life. By combining these three innovations, this film shows creatures and behaviours never seen before. Sir David Attenborough is our guide as we venture into a new hitherto unseen world. Bioluminescence is everywhere: in the soil, on the land and throughout the oceans. Join Sir David Attenborough and a team of the world's leading scientists and deep sea explorers on a quest to reveal the secrets of living lights.

"SEA SPARKLE", Glowing Water cool pics!
What happens to lakes in an area hit by forest fires and floods? Some will glow in the dark. For a cluster of lakes in Australia's eastern Victoria, the combination of the fire and then the rain washed ash and nitrogen-rich soil into the water. The Gippsland Lakes experienced a rise in sea level. That caused the lakes to mix with sea water, which also raised the salinity. This recipe led to the introduction of a species of algae called Noctiluca scintillans, commonly known as "sea sparkle." The bioluminescent brew gave the water a nocturnal glow. Bioluminescence -- when a living organism lights up at night -- is a natural phenomenon. Australian photographer Phil Hart caught the eerie light of the lakes and shared his snaps. The shutterbug runs Night Sky Photography workshops in Australia, where he teaches the art of capturing images like these.

Algae causes glowing aqua waves in San Diego
A bloom of bioluminescent phytoplankton has dazzled San Diego residents as the abundance of the algae along the coast lights up the water. The bloom was cause by a red tide, resulting in a higher level than normal of the plankton in the water. When the small organisms are disturbed, they let off light, making them more visible.  Red tides can be dangerous as the explosion of algae can release an excess of toxins into the air and water, but most are dispersed by currents and wind before they can become too dangerous  'Incredible' bioluminescence gives California surf an eerie blue glow View the video at https://www.theguardian.com/environment/video/2018/may/11/algae-causes-glowing-aqua-waves-in-san-diego-video
