From the hdmi port out of the 5D Mrk ii (with Magic Lantern Software installed) connected to Zacuto EVF, pass though to Atomos Ninja hdmi hard drive recorder. Capture the Signal which is 1080i 29.97 YCbCr 8Bit to ProRes 10bit 422HQ 1080i. As far as i can tell the image looks not bad , should be good to use for Backup to Raw Recording. Because you don't get a second chance to film a once in a life time scene!

First test with the Canon 5d mk II and a Feelworld 7" IPS screen. I bought the screen for gimbal use with the Zhiyun crane. I'm shooting raw video with the magic lantern firmware.

Like, share and subscribe for newer, better content! Oh, and if you're curious about basic streaming equipment options, check out this other video: https://youtu.be/8fg7YI5MBEA?list=PLiRP3szazGmacv__UqT1ulBGplkr9vhyC Today we begin the first of a few videos comparing Matt's current camera, the Canon Rebel t5i (700D), and a new camera he's been reading about, the Panasonic Lumix G7. The first (and most important difference for Matt's needs) is the HDMI output capabilities of each camera, so let's take a look! If you like what the G7 is capable of, the package Matt purchased can be found at this affiliate link: http://amzn.to/2iqRJDS If you have a Canon camera and want to stick with it, the third party software Matt mentioned is Magic Lantern. It unlocks some neat features, but still won't deliver true clean 1080p over HDMI on the t5i (we're not sure about newer or more robust models). Also, it WILL void your camera's warranty. All that said, find it here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/ If you are interested in flive streaming with a DSLR, here's an affiliate link to the capture card we use: http://amzn.to/2i7IBX5 That's a little on the expensive side for what it is, but offers out-of-the-box cross platform capabilities and works with both USB 2.0 and 3.0. Here is a short Tutorial on how to setup a HDMI Hard Drive Recorder on a 5D Mark ii. Being the hdmi signal is 8bit 422 1080i ,good enough to capture, as a Backup and or proxy. I used Atomos Ninja hdmi recorder connected to my 5d mark ii in this tutorial. Recorded the Green Screen with my Canon HV20 connected by HDMI to my AJA Kona Lhi card to film this tutorial to prores 422hq. I hope every one enjoys the video.

Heres a quick RAW test of my 7D showing continuous RAW video shot while sending and HDMI signal to an external monitor, usually the 7d glitches out really hard if you try to do this but through trial and error figured out if shoot at 30 fps with a 2:1 aspect ratio you can get clean shots There is no particular idea behind this short edit except to display the RAW video capabilities of the 7D, just a random montage of test shots done on my own as well as real paid projects I am currently working on if anyone is interested Song: Feist- 1234 (Chilly Gonzales interpretation)

CANON EOS M | This Monitor WORKS with ML! | Magic Lantern RAW | FEELWORLD 4K 5.7" Inch Monitor The monitors that I have used in the past with Magic Lantern on the EOS M always flickered and when they would record, the MLV files would turn purple and green and would be corrupted when I would view them on the laptop. On this monitor, I changed the monitor settings fro,1080p 60hz to 480p 60hz and the live view flickering stopped and the files that are recorded are not corrupt anymore. I went to the setting tab on the monitor and changed "camera mode" from 1080p 60hz to 480p 60hz - The footage still looks amazingly sharp. I can finally see myself in the frame. Hello All. Many people have told me that the Canon EOS M50 does not have Clean HDMI out, so I wanted to create a quick video to the contrary and settle the debate once and for all to enjoy. As you'll see In the vid, I am in video mode with a micro HDMI cable attached to my Feelworld 4K monitor. The white box appears at first, but after switching to manual focus, the frame is now clean of any overlays. Auto focus is a it of a biggie to give up, so I will have to setup a wireless rack focus for convenience since I currently have it on a jib. The small battery percentage on the screen is from the monitors battery, not the Canon. If anyone knows how to circumvent the white focus box in auto focus please leave a comment. Thanks

Of late i have been working with Film Convert Pro, i find that 5D Mrk ii really likes being Mapped to the Red One Camera source and Fuji 8553 ET Film Stock. Also give a little intro to Magic Lantern, i shotin 3x Crop mode at 2k ([email protected]) with a ND fader stoped down 50% on my EF 24-70mm f2.8L In crop mode it was 72mm. The reason why i used crop mode for my Into speech was to eliminate any Aliasing and Moire, and i find in crop mode i have better Low light capture because there is no Line skipping. Note: i also used my Canon HV20 Camcorder connected to my Ninja HDMI recorder ProRes 422HQ 23.976p. This is one of those HDV camcorder that output 8bit 422 hdmi uncompressed. Some people have being asking what card i'm using, i use Lexar 1000x 64GB & 32GB And the other question that keeps coming up is "how do use get video to look so Good on YouTube" Since i Work in Final Cut Pro X when i'm finish i sent my project to Apple Compressor Viva FCPX export button, then i have a special preset, 1080p 30MB/s Main Profile Level 5.0, 6 frame reference in a mp4 container

Many of the older Canon cameras including the old 5D Mark II and even 60D would drop resolution on HDMI output once you hit the record button. This is no longer the case for the T4i, which is the first rebel to allow 1080i out even while recording. I really hated when the screen would go black for a few seconds on the older cameras.

Hello everyone ! sorry I've been away so long . I being putting my effort to farther developing Magic Lantern for the Digic IV camera's mainly the 5D Mark ii & 7D . I'm happy to report that we are very close in getting UHD/3.5K raw video & Lossless compression plus we have achieved 10-12bit raw video in 1:1 Liveview , but as a side effect this give corrupted 3x Crop_Mode video (Sorry I'm working on it) . I shot this video in 12bit 1856x1044 @ 23.976 fps with mlv_rec plus audio 44.1 khz , I was abled to get continuous raw video on my CF card 1066x Lexar 64GB , I shot a total of 30GB without dropping any frames. I had a write speed of 66MB/s with audio normally in 14bit @ 1856x928 write speed is about 69MB/s , so with a decrease in write speed and a increase in resolution .There is still problems that need to fixed e.g. only works with pure analog ISO's (100,200,400,800,1600) no digital push or pull ISO e.g. 160,320,500, etc. ... that causes a lockup/frozen liveview and needs the battery pulled , be on that it works will even has HDMI support without issue . I do like the 12bit image far better then 14bit , give a very nice cinematic image and very clean shadows. Edited & graded in FCPX with Film Convert Pro , used the "RED MX" for camera source ( closest to magic lantern raw for 5D2) KD P400 Ptra film emulation . Used my canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L Lens @ f4 200 ISO 23.976p with frame over ride set to exact. Hope everyone enjoy the magic lantern development update on the DIGIC IV Camera's . The uploaded file is a Apple ProRes4444 .

I installed this version of the magic lantern operating system onto my 6D back some time around early December. In the magic lantern menu, go to-- Display, Clear Overlays, Always. Boom, clean HDMI out. At this time, I don't know if it's outputting a 4:2:2 signal.

(キヤノン株式会社?) Kiyanon kabushiki-gaisha is a Japanese multinational corporation specialized in the manufacture of imaging and optical products, including cameras, camcorders, photocopiers, steppers, computer printers and medical equipment. Its headquarters are located in Ōta, Tokyo, Japan. Canon has a primary listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the TOPIX index. It has a secondary listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The origins of Canon date back to the founding of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory in Tokyo in 1937 by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda. During its early years the company did not have any facilities to produce its own optical glass, and its first cameras incorporated Nikkor lenses from Nippon Kogaku K.K. (the later Nikon Corporation). Between 1933 and 1936 'The Kwanon', a copy of the Leica design, Japan's first 35 mm focal plane-shutter camera, was developed in prototype form. In 1940 Canon developed Japan's first indirect X-ray camera. Canon introduced a field zoom lens for television broadcasting in 1958 and in 1959 introduced the Reflex Zoom 8, the world's first movie camera with a zoom lens, and the Canonflex. In 1961 Canon introduced the Rangefinder camera, Canon 7, and 50mm 1:0.95 lens in a special bayonet mount. In 1964 Canon introduced the 'Canola 130', the first Japanese made 10-key calculator, a substantial improvement on the design of the British Bell Punch company, which introduced the first fully electronic calculator two years earlier with the Sumlock Anita Mark 8 unit. In 1965 Canon introduced the Canon Pellix, a single lens reflex (SLR) camera with a semi-transparent stationary mirror which enabled the taking of pictures through the mirror. In 1971 Canon introduced the F-1, a high-end SLR camera, and the FD lens range. In 1976 Canon launched the AE-1, the world's first camera with an embedded micro-computer. In 1982 "Wildlife as Canon Sees It" print ads first appeared in National Geographic magazine. Canon introduced the world's first Inkjet printer using bubble jet technology in 1985. Canon introduced Canon Electro-Optical System (EOS) in 1987, named after the goddess of the dawn. EOS 650 autofocus SLR camera is introduced. Also in 1987 the Canon Foundation was established. In 1988 Canon introduced 'Kyosei philosophy'. The EOS 1 Flagship Professional SLR line was launched in 1989. In the same year the EOS RT, the world's first AF SLR with a fixed, semi-transparent pellicle mirror, was unveiled. In 1992 Canon launched the EOS 5, the first-ever camera with eye-controlled AF, and the PowerShot 600, its first digital camera. In 1995 Canon introduced the first commercially available SLR lens with internal image stabilization, EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. EOS-1N RS, the world's fastest AF SLR camera with a continuous shooting speed of 10 frame/s at the time. Based on the EOS-1N, the EOS-1N RS has a fixed, semi-transparent pellicle mirror with a hard coat. In 1996 Canon introduced a pocket-sized digital camera with the Advanced Photo System, named ELPH in America and IXUS in Europe. Canon enterd the digital video camcorder market in 1997. In 2004 Canon introduced the XEED SX50 LCD projector. Canon introduced its first high-definition video camcorder in 2005. In November 2009 Canon made a €730 million (US$1.1 billion) all-cash offer for the Dutch printer maker Océ. Canon had acquired majority ownership of Océ by March 2010, and completed the acquisition of 100% of shares in Océ by the end of 2011.

Hello all and Happy 2017 ! Over the last 3 years magic lantern developers have been working on reverse engineering raw bit reduction , finally in late fall of 2016 a big break thought ! a1ex discovered that Canon has 10 , 12bit raw format all ready there it was a matter of turning on the options and of course make the code complaint to ML raw video format (MLV) . Sounds easy right ! Will not so as the Preview/Liveview is in 14bit and when you record 10 or 12bit the preview lockup but not the camera. About half of the cameras that support Magic Lantern have workable bit reduction (10-12) so don't expect to have bit reduction in any of the nightly builds just yet , if you want to test it out , you will have to compile the source code yourself or ask nicely on the 10-12bit thread and maybe someone will help you out . But it would be better if more people could help with "C" code to get all the cameras working with bit reductions. Shot this with my 5D Mark ii with new bit reduction code @ 10bit 2144x1076 23.976p in 3xcrop mode , used EF24-70 f2.8L @ 35mm with crop @ 2.60 that work out 91mm . Now with bit reduction i get about a 30% smaller file then extract with mlvfs to get my 16bit Cdng's. I uploaded the file as a Apple ProRes4444 for best quality. *Please Note* I have had many request for this experimental 10-12bit build , as ML has removed there link to it I will host it in my Google Drive for the next 4-6 weeks :) read this post for link http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5601.msg178437#msg178437

CORRECTIONS: as @Ma Sc commented below, there was no file conversion problem. I didn't understand a limitation of VLC. After reading his comment, I tried opening in Premiere and it played fine. Also, I meant 4 gigabytes a MINUTE. Once I've had a stabilized setup I haven't needed to "pop your battery". Actually, never did with the 7D This is a quick and dirty video explaining how I use Magic Lantern on a Canon 7D, make for the person I'm trading cameras with. I'm conflicted about posting this video here on YT. In the end, I know that when I'm in ML mode there isn't enough content to be found. Even something crude like this video can teach me something interesting. Maybe it will be helpful to someone. Although I love ML, I'm not using it lately, so want to move the camera onto someone who may discover the seriously cool stuff one can do with ML. This new software, MLV App looks very cool! I look forward to using it next time I get into ML again: MLVApp https://github.com/ilia3101/MLV-App tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mmnG5uBJok from "Making Movies" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYboGulOi0g

I recently needed to upgrade my DSLR. After a lot of soul-searching, I had to face the realization that perhaps I don’t absolutely NEED 4K… …which meant that Canon's "worst" camera, the 6D Mark II is literally the PERFECT camera for me! I say worst because the initial reviews when the camera was released in 2017 were quite negative (mainly due to the lack of 4k). However, as time has gone on, more people seem to be appreciating all that this camera DOES offer. I've been shooting with the original 6D for several years, but have begun to find it so restrictive for video that I basically stopped using it. My quest for a great full frame camera with a flip out screen and reliable autofocus made the second generation Canon 6D the ideal contender. The Magic Lantern Wiki Page were you can find all the files and information you'll need to install the firmware hack: http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Lantern_Firmware_Wiki This video goes over a few of the main menu's and things to look out for once you've installed the Magic lantern T2i firmware update. Remember this is a hack and if you make a mistake when installing it, you could damage your camera. There are still a few bugs with the software including the fact that you have to press the menu or shutter button to get some of the graphic's to redraw. But after testing and using it for a few day's I think I feel comfortable taking it out on a job. I'll still bring my 7d with me (of course), but having the option to properly record audio to the camera makes life a lot easier. - PictureStyle REC: Record in a different Picture Style then you view in - FPS Control: Choose a FPS value between 2-32 FPS. Currently the camera freezes when you go higher then 32. - HDR Movie: Already known with some other DSLR's. This function is also working for the 5D. - Follow Focus: Control your focus with the arrow keys. Your lens must stand in AF to do this. - Force HDMI: This forces your HDMI output into 1 resolution. Your HDMI monitor will not have to change resolution anymore. You can directly record! - DISP Profiles: You can save up to 4 profiles for your Magic Lantern Settings and easily change them with one button. Alex, the head developer for the Unified Magic Lantern software, mailed me a pre release to test some things for him. When I installed it for the first time I was blown away with its stability and functionality, knowing it was just a closed beta version. So I decided to do a full test on the Magic Lantern software. Started this morning I've been running tests for 9 hours straight. The results are amazing. Of course I found many bugs, but again for just being a closed beta version I only had a camera lockup for two times. Things like a fixed resolution between Live View and recording is one of the things that really is a breakthrough. I was also trying to create problems with connecting/disconnecting devices such as an HDMI monitor, headphone (trough the A/V jack) and an external monitor. But I just never had to reboot the camera, everything went perfectly smooth as if the software was something official. ✅ OUR EQUIPMENT My Custom GH5 Camera Rig ► https://www.cinecom.net/gear/custom-panasonic-gh5-camera-rig/ Cheap Green Key Equipment ► https://www.cinecom.net/gear/chroma-key-essentials/ All the Film Gear we use ► https://www.cinecom.net/gear ✅ LETS CONNECT! Hello all ; Highly acclaimed Calgary author Sarah L. Johnson, was on a book signing tour of Alberta (June 10-12 , 2016) promoting her latest collections of short stories Called "Suicide Stitch" which has been featured on the Calgary Herald Bestseller list. The Fellowing is Quoted from Facebook About Suicide Stitch: "Love is woven into the fabric of our lives. A force of nature that knits us together even as it tears us apart. Threads of hunger, passion, and pain run through this collection where the last Nephilim fights his gory cravings, a latchkey kid befriends a cage dancer, and a bizarre threat lurks in the shadows of a friendly neighborhood. Siblings turn monstrous and gods are brought to their knees in a dark literary patchwork that will drive you into the knot of your lover's arms, knowing how easily you could unravel. Suicide Stitch is sexy, transgressive, and intelligent; comprised of eleven tales that explore the sinister side of love. About Sarah: Sarah L. Johnson lives in Calgary where she runs marathons, blogs about Nabokov, and occasionally overuses the word ‘perpendicular’. She is the author of Suicide Stitch: Eleven Tales, featuring stories previously published in several journals and anthologies including Room Magazine, Shock Totem, Crossed Genres Magazine, and the Bram Stoker nominated Dark Visions 1: A Collection of Modern Horror. Her first novel, Infractus, is coming soon from Driven Press. Filmed On 5D Markii with Magic Lantern 14bit raw video at 1872x936 , 23.976fps 800 ISO. Canon EF24-70mm f2.8L , Master the audio to Zoom N4h with phantom power 250 Ohms XLR Apex 150 Mic. @ 96/24bit . The Closeup shots came from my Canon HV20 capturing @ 1080p 60i Uncompressed HDMI Signal (1.5Gb/s) to Atomos Ninja HDMI hard drive recorder to ProRes HQ. Extracted Progressive 24p frame with apple compressor with "Reverse Telecine" option enabled to ProRes 4444XQ. I Processed the Magic Lantern 14bit raw with MLVFS ( Cdng Convertor on the Fly Mac App.) Which Product 150 GB of Virtual Cdngs in a Virtual Directory . ( So no need to have physical Files or double up on Hard Drive space ) From there i imported in to the New Beta Blackmagic Resolve 12.5 (Mac) Set the camera raw to decode in Arri Raw with BDM film Space which give me a Arri C-Log like image with a little more fine tuning in camera raw ( some sharpness added and crank down the Contrast by at least 30-40% ) Caveat : with this you Must Expose Correctly no "I can fix that in post" cause i my made a mistake . Then i imported the Master ProRes 4444XQ in to FCPX De-log with the installed preset Arri C-Log and graded . Because i used a high ISO (800) i got a little too much noise so in FCPX a clean up the noise with "Neat Video" . So Why I'm i not using Adobe After Effects CC to make ProRes Master files ? Will 2 reason , first A.E. is so Slow and because i do mostly news story & mini doc. i need a very quick turn around time and Resolve give me that at real time not at 3-4 frames a second in A.E. , secondly Resolve is free and and adobe cost money . With the reworking of the color management improvements , the debaying of camera etc... resolve has step up there game and now i feel more confident the file produce is as good as A.E. file. Now for problem files i still relay on A.E. .

This is a not a review of the Sony CLM-V55 but a simple test of what Magic Lantern can do with the HDMI output. The problem is the blink of the 5D when you start recording. Magic Lantern can adjust this problem by setting the output fixed at 480p. Magic Lantern for Canon 5D is still in beta and you must donate to test it... but it's really really helpful also for other cool stuff!! So DONATE and try it!!! :)

The Canon 5D Mark III Firmware Update came out today 4/30/13. I walk you through how the camera functioned before the update, I guide you on HOW TO INSTALL the firmware, and show you the difference after it's installed. Firmware Version 1.2.1 allows clean uncompressed HD to be output from the HDMI port WHILE recording, and it keeps the LCD screen functional so you have a practical way to have a director's monitor! This is a game changer. This allows easy focus pulling for an AC or yourself via a hi-res monitor, and it allows you to record uncompressed HD externally, for more options in grading and post. Please excuse the guerrilla style of this video, I shot it while at work. Enjoy!

So you want to use your DSLR as a webcam for streaming. You've got an uphill battle ahead of you. Two options: 1. Use Sparkocam to get a video feed over the USB port 2. Use the HDMI output to get video through a capture card This shows you what you can expect. Sparkocam gives you convenient control of the camera but the motion is terrible. HDMI output is a giant pain in the ass to set up and involves the use of MagicLantern custom firmware to get a clean video feed, but it looks much better and silky smooth. However, Live view will turn off after 25 minutes, requiring some trickery to keep it active. Winner: HDMI, but only just after all the screwing around. Capture card used in this test was a Razer Ripsaw courtesy of Razer San Francisco. UPDATE: The Canon SL2 takes all the fuckery out of video capture from DSLRs. The easiest way to solve this problem is to use that body instead of an older T3i.

Here is a direct capture from the Canon 6D's HDMI out. You can see the 19% resolution loss due to the black border placed around the image, however the camera itself can capture full 1080p resolution to the onboard card. It is not running Magic Lantern as I don't think there is support for the 6D yet. Visit http://www.magiclantern.fm/ to download Magic Lantern for your camera.

CHECK OUT THIS BLOG POST FIRST! This requires Magic lantern! Check the magic lantern site to make sure your camera is supported! Currently does not work with 7d! http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/02/25/more-on-adding-audio-monitoring-to-your-dslr/ Many of the direct recording audio solutions for Canon DSLR Cameras involve large boxes and other random Items in order to get the audio into your camera. But once the audio is being recorded by your camera how do you know if it is any good? Well with the the help of a FiiO e5 headphone amplifier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002V5M5E6?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002V5M5E6 and a female RCA to 3.5mm adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018MI5F6?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0018MI5F6 You can add audio monitoring functionality to your Canon DSLR Camera (when using a field monitor). I have two people to credit in this video. The first one is Christian Sundsdal. He is the one I mentioned who hooked the rode VideoMic and FiiO e5 together. You can find out more about him here: http://vimeo.com/sundsdal And the second is Youtube member Freyguyproductions. He sent in the question that got me started looking for this solution. You can find his blog here: http://Freyguyproductions.blogspot.com NOTE: Remember this is for use with a field monitor. You need either an HDMI monitor or a little composite input monitor. See: http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/01/30/dirt-cheep-monitor-project/ The screen on the camera goes black as soon as you plug the usb-composite adapter into your camera. If you aren't using a field monitor this probably isn't the way to go. http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/10/30/canon-7d-magic-lantern-alpha-firmware-update/ It only took one month from the time the Magic Lantern team announced the Canon 7d hack solution to the moment they were able to release the alpha version of Magic Lantern for the 7d. The features are still limited, but they've already made good progress with the camera so far. The biggest advantage is the added on screen audio meters. I know that many of you record dual system sound, but sometimes it's simply easier to record directly to the camera if you can. This might not produce the highest audio quality possible, but many times it's more then acceptable when capturing talking heads or other none complex dialog. This release of Magic Lantern is still in alpha, so you will need to load the firmware file into the camera each time you want to use the features. No boot flag is set in the camera and if you run into any problems you can simply shut the camera down and turn it back on to bring it back to it's normal state. The Canon 7d alpha firmware can be downloaded here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/whats-new/104-releases/140-first-7d-alpha-released If you find the firmware useful, consider donating to the Magic Lantern team, even a few dollars helps to support their efforts. Finding new camera bodies to test isn't cheap and every little bit helps. Equipment used: Canon 5d mark III Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Sennhieser g2 wireless mic
