How to Stylize a Magazine Cover in Photoshop

17:37
I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou In today's episode, we show you how to stylize a magazine cover in Photoshop! Getting Started We start today's episode off by pulling in an image from Fotolia.com. This image will serve as our magazine cover. After we have our image pulled into Photoshop we are ready to begin stylizing. Adding Style We add style to our magazine cover by using a color gradient. There are so many awesome options in the Gradient Fill dialog box that you can really get in and play around a bit until you find something you like. In our case, we decided that we wanted our color gradient to go from green to magenta. Masking Next we bring in our Phlearn logo. We want this logo to appear behind our subject. We create an adjustment layer and use a brush to mask out the areas we don't want appearing on top of our subject. Finishing Touches We finish off by using some type and alignment tools in photoshop to add some text to our magazine cover. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for watching Phlearn! Magazine Photoshop Fails That Actually Got Published

Top 10 Hilarious fails that were printed for popular magazine covers like Victoria's Secret Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like 10 Crazy College Horror Stories https://youtu.be/WZ4uFu97uTY Ridiculously Expensive Kids Toys You Can't Afford https://youtu.be/5SHK8zWlNl8?list=PLXK3uPjJ22FUgkmE10ySoALx9YjknvXHI Description: Most of us have been there. We’re standing in line at the grocery store, waiting to unload our baskets, when our eyes catch the variety of magazines on display. From fitness to fashion to gossip, these strategically placed magazines are meant to pull us in and get us to make that one extra purchase. For a lot of people it actually works. We just can’t resist the stories and secrets that are being displayed on the cover. Even if we manage to get past that, the cover picture usually finishes the job as we want to see more of a scandal or popular celebrity who’s been photographed during a shoot or by the paparazzi. Despite earlier predictions about the power and influence of the internet, magazines aren’t dead yet. Circulation for the more popular publications range from a couple million readers for the likes of Redbook and Glamour, to several million for magazines like National Geographic and Better Homes and Gardens. Sure, a lot of these publications can be found online, but people are still willing to pay money to have a hard copy in their hands. There’s money to be made here and that’s why magazines continue to work so hard to fill those grocery and newsstands and attract potential buyers. What’s the secret to selling magazines and the stories they have inside? You need a reputation for providing good stories, supplying information that people want and, of course, including relevant pictures that tie in with the story and hold out interest. Let’s face it, we are heavily influenced by visual cues and most people are drawn to magazines thanks to the pictures on the cover. We also love celebrities and stars, so when a popular person or individual caught in a scandal gets thrown on a cover or handed a several page photo shoot found inside, we are likely going to pick up that magazine. This means that publishers work hard to get the best pictures and images that really pop. Naturally, they can go to extremes touching up images to remove wrinkles, shadows and other distractions so the individual looks their best on a cover. Sometimes this goes more than a bit far and the final product is so altered or ‘Photoshopped,’ that it doesn’t look right. The 10 magazine images ahead have all been Photoshopped or edited to some degree. In all cases, over editing or poor work has produced a picture which has caught people’s attention. These Photoshop fails have produced a range of reactions after people caught on to the alterations. From anger related to the female body image portrayed by bad editing to straight up bemusement concerning what can only be considered lazy Photoshop work, these fails make you wonder what sort of people are in charge at these companies and who is monitoring quality control. Create amazing magazine covers in photoshop

Create amazing magazine covers in photoshop with ease. In this photoshop time lapse edit, I show you how easy it is to make a simple magazine cover graphic. It's a fairly simple photo retouching / fine-art photography technique. I'm using Photoshop CC, but the tools I use can be found in any version of the software. For this edit, my tools mainly consists of the photoshop quick selection tool, and the photoshop eraser tool. That's all you really need for easy photoshop editing and manipulation; and for designing magazine covers in photoshop. I break the photoshop magazine cover down into 3 phases: 1- Professional portrait editing 2- One simple but cool photoshop manipulation technique using the photoshop lasso tool, quick selection tool, and the eraser tool 3- Adding simple photoshop text to the image So this isn't exactly a photography or portrait photography tip tutorial. I'm currently editing other videos where I get more in depth about how to edit portraits in photoshop. I cover graphic design techniques, and tips and tricks for photography. Seems Legit! Celebrity Photoshop Fails

Top 10 worst edited photos of your favorite stars. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 Other videos you might like: 10 Incredible Women You Won’t Believe Exist! https://youtu.be/tDfm-MAbJ1U 10 Fad Diets That Are Dangerous and Ridiculous https://youtu.be/kMd0-3Zahnw Description: There’s no denying that we currently live in an era where we have to be wary of the pictures we see online, because they can be altered to appear as something different than what is reality. What you see isn’t necessarily what you get. Photoshopping happens so often it’s difficult to tell the difference between real and fake these days when it comes to what we see on social media, on television, and in magazines. Thankfully some companies have decided to stop altering their images, for example American Eagle launched an anti-photoshop campaign. Many other companies have agreed to stop photoshopping their advertisements as well. This is a move in the right direction. Changing the way people look doesn’t send out the right message for young girls, especially when we photoshop the celebrities that they admire. Altering images of celebrities creates a blown-up ideal of perfection concerning what the perfect body is suppose to look like. Some celebrities don’t mind the changes, while others are adamant about not wanting to be altered in any way. Most of the photoshop we see today isn’t obvious; people are portrayed to be ideal because their flaws are airbrushed away. But there are some pictures that are clearly and noticeably altered. Some celebrities are missing limbs, have larger breasts, or bigger muscles. Certain stars even play around with their own images, either to mock media outlets or, unfortunately, because they’re unhappy about the way they look. With all of this attention on them, they don’t want to post a picture of themselves with even the slightest imperfection, in case they are criticized for it. Photoshop created a whole new level of body image issues. There is now this strive to look perfect, when in reality no one is perfect. But apparently flaws don’t sell magazines. It’s important to remember that what we see isn’t always the truth. Celebrities are real people too, and their perfect skin and slender frames are more often than not distorted to look that way. These misrepresentations need to stop if society ever wants people to think highly of themselves again. We can’t keep comparing ourselves to the transformed images we see every day. The images seen in this video are photoshop fails, pictures that are very visibly not real. If nothing else, seeing how these celebrities really look makes us feel better about ourselves, and reminds us that stars are people too. It’s crazy to see the lengths some companies will go to in order to create the image of perfection in order to sell magazines, movie tickets, or underwear. Be wary of the unrealistic things that you see online, it’s easy to fall for glossy images and airbrushed skin, but that’s not what real looks like. Here are several photoshop disasters that are far from looking legitimate. Rising Above the Magazine Covers | Brittany Calaluca | TEDxNSU

11:55
After a series of events including preparing for a bikini competition, taking a Photoshop class, and dealing with food obsessions, Brittany Calaluca realized that bodily perfection is not reality. As a fitness professional, she has adopted a personal mission to air out the industry’s dirty laundry of unhealthy diets, food and body-part obsessions, and a reliance on Photoshop to create the ideal images of a fitness model. Where is the real work being done—in the gym or on a computer? Brittany Calaluca considers herself a “life chaser.” An NSU undergraduate student majoring in exercise and sport science, she is also a coach, personal trainer, entrepreneur, creative thinker, artist, photographer, jewelry designer, and young woman making her way in the world. “Locally grown,” Calaluca loves the beach, kayaking, and outdoor fitness. In support of her passions, she owns and runs two small businesses: Rawk Sport and Fitness (a fitness coaching company) and Woodstock Peaces (a handmade jewelry company that aims to inspire young, female entrepreneurs). Last November, she spoke at NSU’s Diversity Summit, where she released her latest project, Rawk Sport Magazine, a no-Photoshop publication featuring local community members as the fitness models. Calaluca’s academic achievements include placement on the Dean’s List, membership in the Delta Epsilon Iota honor society, and her role as vice president of NSU’s Exercise Science Student Organization. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

How to Design a Book Cover in Photoshop

03:12
Designing a book cover in Photoshop is a bit complicated but is very interesting at the same time. A book cover has three components which need to be designed in the same document, namely; the front cover, back cover and the spine. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a book cover of the size 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches and then will learn to divide it into its components. You will also learn an easy way of manipulating a photograph to use it on the book cover and how to set the layout for the back cover and spine of the book. Step # 1 -- Draw the margin lines Start off by opening a new document and set the dimensions to a width of 12 inches and a height of 8.5 inches. This canvas will be divided into front cover, back cover and the spine of the book. First of all, we need to separate the front cover, back cover and the spine. Draw vertical margin lines, one at 5.5 inches and then another one at 6.5 inches. The area between the margin lines is the spine. You can vary the width of the spine depending on the number of pages the book contains. The right side is the front cover of the book and the left side is the back cover of the book. Step # 2 -- Create hue/saturation layer Now open the image that you want to use for the cover. If you don't want to use an image, you can also create an illustration or even make a typographic book cover. Then add the hue/saturation layer over the image layer and change the color and brightness. Now select both the layers and press "Ctrl+E" to merge them. This is an optional step. If your image does not need any changes then you can omit it and directly place the image on the front cover. Step # 3 -- Fill the layer with color Once the image is ready, drag it to the book cover document and copy it on the front cover of the book. Adjust its size according to the cover. To fill the background, select the "Eye dropper tool" and pick a color from the image. Then select "layer 1" and fill it with this color. Step # 4 -- Remove the extra areas Once done, we need to clean the sharp edges of the image so that it merges with the background color. To do so we will create a mask layer on the image and use the soft round brush to clean the edges of the image. Step # 5 -- Draw margin lines Before placing any text on the cover, it is important to draw margin lines. Create margin lines on all four sides of the front cover each at a distance of 0.25 inches from the edge. Step # 6 -- Insert the text Now, on the book cover in Photoshop use the "type tool" to add text. Use different fonts and sizes for the book title and the name of the author. Place them according to the layout and the front cover is ready. Step # 7 -- Apply gradient Whenthe front cover is ready, we will start working on the back cover. Use the "rectangle tool" to draw a rectangle of the same size as the back cover of the book which is 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches. Then go to its blending options and select the gradient options. Apply a radial gradient with "green" color on the right gradient bar and the color with the code of "ffffff" on the left gradient bar. Change the layer mode to "screen". Create margins on the back side as well. Draw margin lines on all four sides of the back cover, each at a distance of 0.25 inches from the edge. Step # 8 -- Place the text Now we will copy the title of the book and the author's name from the front cover and adjust its size and placement on the back cover. Use the "type tool" to insert the preview of the book. Use the "Garamond" font with its size as 10pt. The font size should never be bigger than 12 pt for the book. Step # 9 -- Place barcode and logo Once all the text is set on the cover, we will copy the barcode and the logo of the publisher and paste it at the back cover. These are the two necessary elements of the back cover. Then we will enter the price of the book and the back cover is ready. Step # 10 -- Place the text and logo on spine In the end, we will work on the spine of the book. Copy the title and the author's name and paste it on the spine. Press "Ctrl+T" to select and rotate the text to 90 degrees to the right. The text on the spine of the book always faces the front cover and never the back cover. Adjust its size and placement. We will copy the logo at the bottom of the spine and the book cover is ready.
