How Do I Develop My Own Style?
These days everyone seems to be a photographer. In a world of literally millions of photographs posted to social media every day, how can you develop your own style and stand out as a photographer. Well the good news is the answer is pretty simple. The bad news is that it takes a lot of work… well bad news depending on how you look at it. Developing your own style takes practice and dedication, but it also takes dedicating yourself to your own work and shutting out the online noise from time to time. I began to travel properly a few months after I graduated university in 2012. I booked a one way ticket to Australia and the fun began from there! How do I fund my travels? I normally apply for a work/travel visa in the country I am spending the majority of my time, I will then work for several months in a row, save up money and then disappear for a few months when I have the cash! I am also blessed enough to have made some really good friends on a lot of my previous travels, this normally means I have a place to crash! What did I do before I began travelling? Before I started travelling I gained a BSc in Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation, I intended to use my degree to get into Law school and become a Lawyer! That was all until I discovered road trips and wanderlust! Do I have any previous experience in Film or Photography? No! Everything I know I learned on the go! It really is the best way! Hands on knowledge in filming and editing really cannot be beaten. How do I start travelling? Just pack up and go! It really is the only way! If you keep telling yourself you're waiting for the perfect moment to travel, 10 years will pass and you'll realise you never did, adventure really doesn't wait!

PHOTOGRAPHY TUTORIAL - Tips On How To Take Better Pictures & More Unique Photos
It's all about how to take better pictures. But there is so much more. In this tutorial Ray Scott shows you an example of how you can learn to make unique photos that look and feel different from other images. With so many photographs being taken every day all around the world, it has become a difficult task to take truly "one of a kind" pics. There is no denying that beautiful photos taken of mountain ranges, lakes and city scenes can be awe inspiring, but with so many of these works out there, the challenge of capturing something completely different or at least presenting an everyday subject in a different light has never been greater. This video addresses this and attempts to inspire all photographers to learn to see what is around them with "fresh eyes". When in studio or in the field Ray uses Canon gear. This is a choice he made years ago knowing that he was buying into a system that he could grow into. His go to camera is the Canon EOS 6D with the second camera being a Canon 5D. Lenses used are all L series f/4 except for the 50mm macro with extender. 16-35mm f/4L, 24-105mm f/4L, and 70-200mm f/4L round out the kit which is carried about with either a Lowepro Urban Reporter 250 messenger bag for city shooting or a Lowepro Sling Bag for landscape field work. While Ray does more camera handholding than before due to the image stabilization capabilities of his various lenses, he still is a believer in using his Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod. It's light and it is sturdy. Ray is a firm believer in exposing himself to as much photography and its history as possible. By looking at other people's photos, he has gained a big appreciation of what this medium has to offer. Ray doesn't think that "copying" someone else's style is a good thing but rather feels that exposing oneself to others work can work as a teaching and inspirational tool. With this in mind, Ray has amassed a list of favorite photographers that he uses for inspiration. Some of these artistic photographers are Galen Rowell, Ansel Adams, Frans Lanting, Annie Leibovitz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Freeman Patterson, William Neill and Richard Avedon. One of the playlists on this channel is called "neighbourhood photographer" which covers tutorials shot in urban and suburban areas. It's always a challenge to see different things of interest when you've been to an area many times yet this is the best way to create good images. You need to return to familiar locations many times. To do so, Ray often drives by car to an area but when he really wants to cover ground yet see things more clearly, he uses his bicycle…bike…and explores the given place. Whether shooting landscape, macro, portrait or abstract images, Ray always tries to be aware of his surroundings to capture the best pictures possible. Part of this workflow means he is very aware of composition and uses various tips, such as the rule of thirds, as a good starting point in composing. He also likes to break rules from time to time to add new effects to his photos. Being aware of angles, shadows, shapes, lines, textures, patterns and colours goes a long way to making good pictures. He is also a big believer in "getting out there" and shooting as much as possible as it is the only way to improve and flex one's imagination. His message is it doesn't matter if you do your photography in the city, suburbs country, mountains or by the sea, just make sure you do it and follow your artistic passion. 10 Tips to find your photographic style. Is it important to have a photography style?
Do you think it is important to have a photographic style? I honestly think that the discussion of how to create a style in photography is a hindrance to the development of a young or new photographer. In short it’s a creativity killer and a topic that should not be considered by the photographer, but instead it should be left to those who view the photographers work to decide. I would define photographic style as something that you realize or become aware of after years of shooting and you look back at your work and realize that you have “habits” in your creative choices. It may be a type of lighting or post processing. Possibly using wide angle lenses more than telephotos or using wide angle lenses in situations where telephotos are generally considered the norm. It could be a preference for color or black and white. It may be as simple as preferring Landscapes or People. So my photography advice to anyone who thinks that they need to find a photography style or know their style…. STOP trying. STOP thinking about it. STOP listening to misguided people who tell you that you need a style and whatever you do…. Don’t define your style before it defines itself. Once you place a label on your work, you have created a set of rules - a box - that says you cannot step beyond that otherwise it doesn’t “fit your style”. If you want your work to remain relevant and interesting throughout your life and career, you have be willing to experiment, learn, grow, challenge yourself, adapt, solve problems – all of which is hard to do if you have a label that says you can’t. Seriously - is this idea of "having a style” really that important? Not at all. I have yet to meet the photographer who picked up a camera for the very first time because they were pondering the concept of style. I have also never met a photographer who told me they became passionate about photography because they wanted to have a style. Now - even though I think its not important - I know, people will still talk about photographic style. How To Find Your Unique Photographic Style
Website: http://www.BrettGaramella.com Follow these steps to find your Unique Photographic Style: 1) Gather a lot of pictures - about 100 or so. You can use a computer or a magazine. 2) Narrow those 100 pictures down to about 20-30 pictures. 3) Write down what you like about each picture - write just a few words, it is not only what you see, but also what you feel. You need to create categories for this list of descriptors: Subject, Light, Mood/Feel, Colors, Composition/Space, Depth, Location 4) When you’re done, only keep the list of descriptors. Use it and carry it with you for each shoot you do. Then you will have your own unique style and feel better about having a more specific vision - limiting yourself to the list will alleviate a lot of stress and help you grow as a photographer. It will help you stick out from every other photographer. Find your photographic style - Take a photo walk
Visit http://www.imagemaven.com for more photo tips and a free e-course on digital camera menus and how to set them up. After you've mastered the technical know how of your camera and your photo editing software, you might be looking at ways to make your photos more interesting and creative. In this video I'm going to discuss taking photo walks to find and develop your own unique photographic shooting style. This is what my designer friend Siita has to say on the topic: http://blog.rivasdesign.com.au/why-style-trumps-happiness-why-it-pays-to-develop-your-own/ "Style is all about feeling great in your own skin. For many unique style is just beginning to develop. It's found by expressing yourself -- Defining what you feel, the way you look at the world, what you think and contribute. And the good thing is .. Style improves with age -- Constantly bubbling up from a well of inner confidence. Style doesn't need permission! Doesn't seek approval to exist. Style builds in bankable layers -- As it's expressed we gain confidence, openness and all sorts of fun in life! Style is your answer to feeling content while achieving your goals. Siita's handy hint! Dig deep find your style, work on it until the layers start to build. Then step out in style -- express yourself with confidence. Build your uniqueness from deep within." -- One idea on how to develop your inner style or funkiness is to go on a photo walk with a focused intention, be that to capture something that extends you, gets you noticed, gets you responding, makes you happy. Anyone can take ordinary photos. You need to take extra-ordinary ones. To make it easier, find a really interesting location to do a photo walk in. Work the scene * Forget the place itself * Instead, focus on a word and try to shoot things that describe that word - ie warm, sharp, smooth, hard, happy, orange, blue, the number 7. * Every time you see that word, literally or metaphorically, make an extraordinary photo of it. * Concentrate on composition * Concentrate on light * Concentrate on colour * Shoot at different angles than you normally would * Get close to the surface of your subject * Really describe it in photos * Feel it When you get home look at your photos and really see if they describe the word or concept that you chose. See what works compositionally, technically and emotionally. Go out again on another day and repeat the process. After a while you will start to see your style emerge. It may change over time and grow with you as an artist. There are many ways to develop your style. Find yours.

WANT TO LEARN MORE FROM PROS AND SHOW YOUR STYLE ON SET? SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TO ATTEND PHOTOGRAPHY MIXER that will take place on June 24th in one of our Los Angeles studios -https://bit.ly/2sMt8jI Here are some snippets of this survey: @artcrooks: The type of photography I'm most inclined to shooting would be, I guess, color theory. I love to photograph people in front of red backdrops, yellow backdrops, blue backdrops, all primary colors. Eventually, I'll venture into darker portraits, and use dark red, but mostly color. @bentsuiphotos: I like a lot of colors, not saturated color. I kind of view color and light like foam, like soft foam that has a little bit of texture, and a little bit of weight. The Kubrick Files Ep. 5 - Where does Stanley Kubrick's style come from?
The first 100 people to click this link will get a 2 month free trial of Skillshare: http://skl.sh/CinemaTyler I’ve often wondered, why is it that Stanley Kubrick’s visual style seems to stand out as one of cinema’s most interesting eyes for storytelling? Kubrick’s unique style was formed in his photography. Today we are going to take a journey around New York City where much of Kubrick’s photographic work for Look Magazine was captured to see if we can recreate some of his photos. We’ll take a look at some of his photographic techniques that would later help him as a filmmaker and we'll look at his influences and hear his thoughts on photography in order to better understand how Kubrick became one of the most visual filmmakers in cinema history.
