TripLog Tutorial - Edit Trip

02:38
- Expand/collapse daily trips - Daily map view - Name locations - Change trip activities - Customize activities - Mileage lock switch - Tags and Notes Welcome to TripLog’s Edit Trip overview This is a brief look at some basic features offered by TripLog in regards to Editing or changing Trips. Expand and collapse: You may have noticed that by clicking on the days you can expand or collapse trips, but you can also expand all or collapse all from the daily menu button. Daily Map View: A cool feature meant to help solve the confusing delude of trips is the daily map view. By pressing on this Google map icon it will take you to a screen displaying all the stops and routes you took on that day. This is very helpful when you want to recall the details of a past trip or, If you’re like me, and you go for a few days not checking your trips and you need to remember what those trips are. Name Location: The app records trip stops with GPS latitude and longitude coordinates, and translates to street address if there is an Internet connection. Now, you can change those addresses to names making you trip timeline much easier to read. For example this is “HOME” and this is “BUSINESS CENTER”. The app will use those names next time you visit the same place. Change activity: The fastest and easiest way to change a trip activity for example “personal to business” on the trips screen, is by pressing the activity circle on the trip bars and choose one of the activities from the popup menu. Add activity: If you want to customize your activities, go to business activities in the main menu and now you’ll see a list of all the current activities you have. Press the plus button to add a new one, for example, ‘Second Business’. Or press an existing activity to edit it. Mileage Lock: You can edit a trip by simply pressing on the trip bar. Everything about a trip is available to edit from this screen. One thing I want to talk about is the Mileage Lock switch. It locks the trip mileage when you change the starting or ending odometer, rather than changing the mileage. Tags and notes: Now this is very important because if you are ever audited, the IRS requires the odometer reading and business justification of each trip. Notes are for long descriptions of the trips, and the Tags are usually shorter. A nice feature of tags is that the app can recall previously entered tags for easy entry. 012 - Combining photos with mapping data (Geotagging)

14:33
Geotagging is the process by which photographs are given a geographical reference, ie a location. Using this information, the photos can then be placed on a map, providing a more meaningful record of a trip of visit. In this tutorial I will show you how to use a free piece of software called @trip to position your photos on a map, label them with suitable titles and descriptions, and then upload the route with integrated photos to a website so they can be shared with others.

In July of 1923 (estimated), a group of 4 men led by a guide embarked on a 12-day canoe-trip, creating a map of their route as they travelled. The map log included handwritten details by W. H. McConnell about wildlife, weather, and their experience in the Park. This historic map was sourced from Bob and Diana McElroy's website: https://mcelroy.ca/notes/historic_algonquin_maps.html

Harley Davidson Boom!™ Box GPS Record Trip Function | Motorcycle Podcast

05:39
MAIN WEBSITE: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com If you have been listening to the Law Abiding Biker Podcast or have viewed any of my Harley Davidson Boom!™ Box Tutorial Videos then you know that overall I am a huge fan of the new integrated infotainment system that Harley Davidson Project Rushmore came out with. I have been labeled a Boom Box expert and continue to make the very popular tutorial videos as things are changed and updated. I have taught many thousands to use the Harley Boom Box system from the ground up and received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the biker community! Boom Box Tutorial Videos: Learn to use the Boom Box System http://www.lawabidingbiker.com/boombox Learn how to update your Boom Box Software and Maps http://www.lawabidingbiker.com/boomboxsoftware Learn to use the free Harley Davidson Ride Planner http://www.lawabidingbiker.com/rideplanner Boom Box GPS Trip "Record" Function: Many have asked about the trip "record" function, which is located if you go to the main menu-Navigation-Map. Once viewing the GPS map and you location toggle over to the lower right of your screen where you will see the main Map menu icon. Push in on that, scroll down, and you can check or uncheck the record option. I tested the trip "record" functionality thoroughly and am fairly disappointed. In fact, it is really just a waste of space at this point in the overall Boom Box system. I was hoping over time in the software updates that come out regularly that they would add and fix this feature, but they haven't. Note: Check out my software and map update tutorial video and always make sure you have the latest version of software. http://www.lawabidingbiker.com/boombox You will quickly learn when using the "record" function that when activated it leaves a highlighted green line in the route that you ride and trails behind you. When you get from point A to point B you can see the overview of the exact route you rode. Unfortunately, it pretty much stops there. If you turn your motorcycle off for a few minutes and then start it back up the route is erased and the trip "record" button automatically unchecked. Further, if you leave your motorcycle ignition on and want to look at the route you can. You can use the touch screen and move the map around, zoom in, and see the names of the roads you took. I suppose if you wanted to you could write on a notepad the roads and route, so you could later go to Harley Ride Planner on your computer and recreate the ride. You could then download the ride from you desktop/laptop computer to a memory stick and then upload it into the Boom Box. Note: Here is my complete tutorial video on the Harley Davidson Ride Planner and how to use the online resource, download a created ride, and upload it into the Boom Box. http://www.lawabidingbiker.com/rideplanner This has become a hugely successful video. Export/Import: Most disappointing, is the fact that even if you drove from point A to point B without turning your ignition off and wanted to store and name that ride locally you can't. Worse, is that you can't even export the ride/route to a memory stick to upload to Harley Ride Planner! So, until this is updated or fixed I give this function a big thumbs down for the Harley Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. Ride safe! Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up!

Trip Planning With Garmin inReach - gpx garmin connect courses

13:30
IN this video, I'll go over the methods you can import tracks, waypoints and sync maps to your garmin inreach devices as par of trip planning. Now this video is geared for the more recent inreach explorer plus but this will work with all previous inreach devices. You'll just need to use the Earthmate app on your smartphone or tablet to get to use the maps. ** GET THE GEAR ON AMAZON** https://www.amazon.com/shop/jimcyr STEPS 1. Find a track or course to import into your inreach portal 2. import any waypoints as GPX file. 3. sync or download any map layers from inreach or earthmate You will be spending a lot of time on the MAP tab in your inreach portal. This is where you can manually add waypoints, routes and when using explorer plus - maps. But to same time, we will focus on importing data from other sources. GPX file format is the common file format to share tracks, waypoints and other data from a GPS device. We can use any program to export the GPX file like garmin basecamp, but we will use garmin connect. Which I think is an updated way to share tracks as opposed to garmin adventures. Since garmin basecamp hasn't been updated in a while I shall assume that you have a garmin connect account. But bear in mind, we can use any program or app to generate a GPX file. We will also look at importing courses from garmin connect. Now, depending on your usage of garmin products, tracks, routes and courses are essentially the same thing. Over the years they meant different things or context, but as you are sharing data these days everything ends up being a track. You can export a gpx track from an existing activity from garmin connect, if you have connection, you can browse their public profile and save as courses their activities. Courses in garmin connect can be public tracks that you can duplicate or send directly to a compatible device. This is a great way to discover new routes in areas you have not been to. A Malnad Monsoon

04:11
Chasing the monsoons from Hampi to Coorg, down some of India's most beautiful roads. This is Malnad. Full trip-log here: http://sheshank.blogspot.com/2017/07/chasing-monsoons-through-malnad.html The route map for this trip (Sep 2016): https://goo.gl/maps/1u6HfCk2HY42 Day 1: Bangalore to Hampi ride with a quick stop at Chitradurga to check out the fort (not worth the detour). Breakfast on the highway and lunch in Hampi and taking the rest of the day easy. Quick Tips: The road from Chitradurga to Hampi is a pothole-laden, narrow two-laner with a lot of truck traffic. It is exhausting riding trying to overtake slow truck, avoiding getting run over by fast trucks and maneuvering to miss landing in craters. There was construction activitiy happening to widen the road, so that's good news for future rides. Hampi, being a temple-town is Vegetarian and Alcohol-free. For good times, stay on the other side of the Tungabhadra river (not near the Virupaksha temple). Day 2: Breakfast at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Virupaksha Temple and exploring the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire. Quick Tips: Some places, you won't be allowed to bring a vehicle in (like the beautiful Virabhadra Temple), so try to explore those early before it gets really hot. The river bank behind the Virabhadra temple is incredibly soothing and devoid of tourists. It's a nice place to chill, read a book and contemplate life. There's a lot to Hampi, so if you're interested in history, plan for at least two whole days of Hampi exploration. Day 3: Pre-dawn start from Hampi with a plan to eat the legendary Davangere Benne Dosa for breakfast and lunch at a little homestay in the tiny Talaguppa village near Jog Falls. Walking around hills and relaxing the rest of the day in Talaguppa. Quick Tips: There's no petrol pumps in Hampi town. The nearest spot to get some fuel is half-way to Hospet from Hampi. That's a small petrol pump, so don't expect it to be open very early or very late or accept cards. Make sure you have plenty of fuel and cash for a hassle-free Hampi experience. The two-lane road from Harpanahalli towards Davangere is incredibly beautiful through fertile fields with gentle twists and very little traffic (maybe that was because of the Karnataka Bandh). Day 4: Sunrise at Jog Falls and a ride onwards to the Hulikal Ghats (or the Hulikal Forest Reserve). Continuing from Hulikal onwards to Thirthahalli. Quick Tips: Hulikal isn't en-route from Jog to Thirthahalli, so you will be riding down the ghats and turning around to come all the way back. The Ghat Section in Hulikal has some traffic and the road surface itself isn't great. The tight hairpin bends and steep inclines will force a low speed but this diversion is fully worthwhile. It is an incredibly scenic route. Day 5 & 6: Exploring Thirthahalli and the surrounding area. Quick Tips: Thirthahalli is a noisy, dusty little town with little to offer. I don't recommend spending as much time as I did in this town. The Rameshwara Temple and banks of the Tunga river are worth spending time in. The older part of town (around the temple and along the river) is still quaint and beautiful. Day 7: Thirthahalli to Agumbe town and onwards to Madikeri via Moodabidri and Sulya. Lunch in Madikeri town and dinner at the hotel in Mayamudi. Quick Tips: Agumbe is the town where much of Malgudi Days (the TV show) was shot. It is a tiny little town with a lot of the old architecture still in place. Plan to spend some time exploring the town. Agumbe Ghats are another detour that is worth taking for the sheer scenic beauty. Twisty roads, tight hairpin bends and stunning vistas. There's a lovely, bare-bones, old-school bar in the Capitol Hotel (Hotel Capital on Google Maps) near the Cauvery Mahal Theatre. This is a good place for the Pandhi (Coorgi fried pork) or some fried fish. Don't expect much in terms of service or variety of options. Day 8: Relaxi in Mayamudi Day 9: Mayamudi to Bangalore Quick Tips: It's easy to get lost while trying to get out of Coorg. Don't trust Google Maps, ask locals for directions.

Build Your Own Travel Journal

02:26
Get your life together with the Nifty Organization Journal: bit.ly/2AYkXm2 Here is what you'll need! Start with a cover page that will help bookmark your trip. Print out photos or draw an iconic scene from the place you are visiting. Add a little calendar and highlight the days your trip will take place. Pick a few of your favorite washi tape rolls and wrap a few inches of each around a scrap piece of cardboard paper or old gift card. Attach this to the back cover of your journal so you always have a tape dispenser on the go. Use scrap paper to create a little pouch for tickets and stubs. Have a designated research page to write down everything from where to eat to best accomodation options. Break down your “to-do list” into 1 month before, 1 week before and 1 day before the trip. On your itinerary page, write down the weather for each day to help you plan your day and outfits. Create a budget page. Use a pie chart to help track how much you are allow to spend on different categories (shopping, eating, transportation, etc). Create a packing list. If you’re going to have multiple bags, break down what will go in each bag. Pack travel-size stationery such as a small watercolor palette. Draw out a map to help track where you went during your trip. Fill pages with stories, photos, drawings, and collectibles (eg. postcards, receipts, etc) from your trip. Glue the backside of an envelope to a page to create extra storage. Enjoy your adventure! My first attempt at making a travel video, using just my smartphone. Neela Sandh is a small pond with a waterfall near Mori Syedan, Rawalpindi. It's almost an hour drive from main Islamabad. It's good for a day out with family and friends. Neela Sandh has a proper car park with a hotel. Don't forget to subscribe and share the video. Let me know what are some others places around Islamabad which are good for a day trip.
