Bauhaus : A History Of Modern Architecture Staatliches Bauhaus (About this sound listen (help·info)), commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was an art school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicised and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933. At that time the German term About this sound Bauhaus (help·info)—literally "construction house"—was understood as meaning "School of Building". The Bauhaus was first founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar. The Best Dress Watch For Around $500? - Junkers Bauhaus Swiss ETA Automatic Watch #6050-2 Review

21:26
Today I review an impulse buy from Long Island Watches. Made in Germany with a solid swiss movement (Either ETA or Sellita), this extremely well built bauhaus mini masterpiece exudes style and elegance in a very understated and cool way. With its Bauhuas design and Junkers heritage, the 6050-2 I think will still be as classic and be able to stay classy for decades to come. Although not the perfect watch with a few drawbacks, its still a great addition to a collection and well worth its asking price in my opinion. http://www.longislandwatch.com/Junkers_6050_2_Watch_p/6050-2.htm Make sure you subscribe to catch my weekly videos and if you have any questions please email: [email protected]

What the hell is 'bauhaus typography'? — Gerd Fleischmann

02:23:46
"Printed matter with bold lines, primary colors, and an asymmetric layout are named colloquially “bauhaus typography”. In the same way architecture with a flat roof, even walls and without any ornaments is called “bauhaus architecture”. Further, there was no common “bauhaus” style in typography and print. The works of Moholy-Nagy, Herbert Bayer, Joost Schmidt, co-op (Hannes Meyer), and others were totally different, even the works of each of them were not consistent in style", says Prof. Gerd Fleischmann. This lecture covers all these topics and even more.

Kedem Shinar bases boxy Israel home on Bauhaus architecture

03:14
Tel Aviv architect Kedem Shinar drew on Israel's Bauhaus architecture and her training in Japan, to create the clean lines of this bright white house in Carmey Yossef. The 350-square-metre residence is set on a plot surrounded by pine, cypress and olive trees in Carmey Yossef, a settlement between Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. For the design, Shinar took her cues from the International Style developed at the Bauhaus, the renowned German art school that ran between 1919 and 1933. Over 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings were constructed in Tel-Aviv between 1920-1940, according to the city's Bauhaus Centre. Gridded glazing, suspended porches and concrete, give CY House a semi-industrial aesthetic and reference the Bauhaus building itself. "The design idea, which draws inspiration from Japanese architecture, the De Stijl style and local Bauhaus architecture, was to merge the light and the landscape with the space of the house by using an interplay of walls and openings," explained Kedem Shinar, "some transparent and some opaque, a play of open and closed, and exposed and protected." Inside, a black grand piano takes centre-stage in the Eames-inspired interior, which features a double-height living space. Two bedrooms and bathrooms are located off this central living space. Bauhaus, History of Modern Architecture, International Style, Part 2

13:19
In 1919, Architect Walter Gropius was appointed to head a new institution in Germany that would help rebuild the country . Called the Bauhaus (a German expression meaning house for building), the Institution called for a new "rational" social housing for the workers. Bauhaus architects rejected details such as cornices, eaves, and decorative details. They used principles of Classical architecture in their purist form, functional and without ornamentation of any kind. Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, are some of the Bauhaus leaders who migrated to the United States. The term "International Style" was applied to the American form of Bauhaus architecture. Modernism: Bauhaus

01:41
Coined by the architect Walter Gropius, Bauhaus combines the root of the German verb bauen (to build) with haus (house). It is the name given to the art school founded by Gropius under the original title of the Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar. The Bauhaus, which lasted from 1919-1933, has come to represent the distillation of the Modern movement and the fundamentalist design ethic. Part of the Modernism Web site, featuring objects from the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and curator David Ryan, this video was originally produced in 1999. http://www.artsmia.org/modernism/

The Bauhaus style became one of the most influential currents in Modernist architecture and modern design. The Bauhaus had a profound influence upon subsequent developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography. The school existed in three German cities (Weimar from 1919 to 1925, Dessau from 1925 to 1932 and Berlin from 1932 to 1933), under three different architect-directors: Walter Gropius from 1919 to 1928, Hannes Meyer from 1928 to 1930 and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe from 1930 until 1933, when the school was closed by its own leadership under pressure from the Nazi regime. The changes of venue and leadership resulted in a constant shifting of focus, technique, instructors, and politics. For instance: the pottery shop was discontinued when the school moved from Weimar to Dessau, even though it had been an important revenue source; when Mies van der Rohe took over the school in 1930, he transformed it into a private school, and would not allow any supporters of Hannes Meyer to attend it. Bauhaus to tiny "haus": micro-home village in Modernist Berlin

31:40
When it was created in 1919, the Bauhaus aimed to be a "School of Building", exploring dwellings, life & art: Berlin's Bauhaus Archive continues in this spirit with events like the Tinyhouse University. Renowned for his one-square-meter house, German architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel continued his tiny house experimentation by launching a utopian village on the grounds of Berlin’s Bauhaus Archive. With permission from the design museum to utilize temporarily their garden, residents can park, and live in, homes here no bigger than 10 square meters, as long as they provide a bed for “a person in need” (e.g. refugees, homeless). The “Tinyhouse University” is both a design/build school and a hands-on living experiment, including Le-Mentzel’s 100-euro-house, Cafe Basic Income, Leonardo Di Chiara’s transforming Avoid, Jan Korbes converted silo shelter, “swap body” housing (Retreat which fits on standard freight container system) the Holy Foods House (with attached tiny garden and open-source showerloop providing an “infinite shower”). The Bauhaus, founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius, is the most significant German movement that tried to combine all areas of the arts in ideal unity. The artist should be freed with new pedagogical methods to academic specialization order to go back to his craftsmanship. 1923, this philosophy was further developed by the reality of technical civilization. Far away was the symbiosis of industrial production and aesthetic-functional design as a credo of the movement. The short creation and design of the Bauhaus protagonists who were expelled in 1933 by the terrible political circumstances in Germany, yet it has left an effect that is also relevant for the present time. This can be also and just say for the designed by Bauhaus furniture that reflect the demands of aesthetics and functionality in an ideal way.

26 Hilltop Avenue, Blairgowrie Inspired by Bauhaus architecture, Karkalla Beach House Blairgowrie is a story of bold geometric lines set upon a contemporary ascetic. Embodying the soul of the rugged coastline just meters from its doorstep, its look is defined by a rusted steel cladding that meets a velvet blue render, which together are contrast against a symphony of Australian hardwood. These three transitions of the building create a truly inspired look, and reflect the balance and counterbalance found in nature. BAUHAUS

Music: DJANGO REINHARDT---Charleston Staatliches Bauhaus , commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was a school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933. At that time the German term Bauhaus (help·info), literally "house of construction", stood for "School of Building". The Bauhaus school was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar. In spite of its name, and the fact that its founder was an architect, the Bauhaus did not have an architecture department during the first years of its existence. Nonetheless it was founded with the idea of creating a "total" work of art in which all arts, including architecture, would eventually be brought together.
