What Killed the Crew of the SS Venture? - A Lesson in Visual Storytelling

09:06
Fan Theories are often debated heavily within the Jurassic Park fan community. Usually with the base splitting in two and supporting a side that supports their own personal feelings on the series. I want to take this time, to draw attention to a specific theory that needs addressing. This theory has long been debated within the fandom and one that a relatively large amount of people seem to put faith in. This specific theory will be discussed in full today, and hopefully can be put to rest for some that have had it long on their minds for the past 20 years. I'm talking about the theory that the crew of the SS Venture was killed by Velociraptors that stowed away onboard the ship, thus causing the boat to crash into the InGen dock and start the infamous Incident in San Diego. When addressing theories such as this we need to go directly to the source of the topic, and look at the evidence provided that gives this theory its legs. This video is all about filmmaking visual storytelling and storytelling filmmakers utilize to make for better films. The example is from Jurassic Park Site B which is not a Jurassic World Chaos Theory but rather a Tyrannosaur Fact as such. This proves why Mommy's Very Angry and also some things about The Lost World Roland Tembo and even The Lost World Dieter though to only a small extent. Its important to note that these are not only Genetically Engineered Dinosaurs but that these are Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Dinosaurs accompanied with the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Tyrannosaurus in what is certainly the Tyrannosaur Revenge against Ludlow. While talking about Jurassic Park Isla Sorna we need to also discuss the possibility of a return with Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Nick Van Owen even though its unlikely but the Thrasher Tyrannosaurus and Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Sorna demand a well described description with keywords that will rank high in the search, and thats just what we will do. Have you heard about the Indoraptor yet? After I'd completed this video and gotten ready to upload it, I actually made an interesting discovery, when I examined a certain piece of concept art more closely. Even though I just said that there was no way of knowing exactly how this severed hand was cut from the captain's body, it turns out there actually is. In fact in this exact piece of art, the cabin is shown to have a giant hole torn through it, where the Buck's head would have broken through, and effectively eaten the poor soul on the other side of the wall. I realize this is a serious fan theory that is talked about very frequently amongst fans, but I can't believe this is the first time I've actually seen concrete evidence for what factually happened to that bloody hand stuck to the wheel. There it is plain as day. The T-rex really did break through the wall and eat him! The evidence is at 7:52 and make sure to pause the video and get a good look and check this out for yourselves...I don't think anyone else in the fandom has caught on to this. 20 years late, but still quite cool!

Link to order this clip: http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675028021_United-States-soldiers_wheel-cart-on-street_German-prisoners_soldiers-watching-cards Historic Stock Footage Archival and Vintage Video Clips in HD. U.S. Army soldiers guard German SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV) POW's being held near the village of Wittring. American army soldiers guarding a group of German SS prisoners of war who are being held near Wittring, France (just outside the German border, in the Moselle region). A wheel cart is seen on the street. The German prisoners of war have SS markings on their right lapel and also the SS skull insignia on the cap, identifying them most likely as part of the SS-Totenkopfverbände or SS-TV; also called Death's Head units. (Theories on these captured soldiers include: 1) SS-TV units were primarily in charge of administering the Nazi Concentration Camps in World War II. Hinzert Concentration Camp was possibly the closest camp to Wittring. Perhaps these soldiers came from it or another camp; 2) They may have been part of the 3rd SS Panzer Division. Reportedly, whole platoons and elements of the 3rd SS Panzer division were not following orders and were giving up prior to the Budapest and Vienna battles to avoid Soviet captivity, as early as Jan 1945). Prisoners rub their hands to warm them in the cold. Camera shows a close-up view of one of the prisoners, as an American soldier attaches a Prisoner of War identification tag over around the neck of the prisoner. Location: Wittring France. Les Waffen SS, unités d'élites d'Hitler - Documentaire histoire

56:23
SS Marschiert in Feindesland [HD Colour]

03:32
( This Video is Not Political its Only For Historical Purpose) SS marschiert in Feindesland was a marching song of the Waffen SS, one of the military forces in Nazi Germany. The lyrics imply the elite status which SS men saw themselves possessing. They are based on patriotic heroism and the mentality of "fighting till death", which was a popular philosophy in Germany during the Third Reich. The lyrics changed as the war went on. Originally they referred to the shores of the river Volga in Russia, later to those of the river Oder on the German-Polish border, where heavy fighting took place in 1945. The lyrics openly declared that the SS would destroy the "Red plague".

Kenneth Sohn Remembers SS Men as a POW

Kenneth Sohn remembers seeing Hitler's Mansion (which sat high on a hill or mountain). Kenneth tells the story of when the SS Men came to the Prison Camps. The SS Men would threaten to shoot you or kill you if you were too weak. When the SS men showed up, the made the POW's work harder He remembers drinking potato water and his own urine during his captivity as a POW. All the POW's had was a tin cup to eat and drink out of for all meals/drink. Once he was liberated, his parents had to take care of him to get his strength back. He never received a Purple Heart.

SS-gebirgs-Division "Nord") was a German unit of the Waffen-SS of Nazi Germany during World war II, formed in February 1941 as SS Kampfgruppe Nord (SS Battle Group North). The division was the only Waffen-SS unit to fight in the Arctic Circle when it was stationed in Finland and northern Russia between June and November 1941. It fought in Karelia until the Moscow Armistice in September 1944, at which point it left Finland. It fought in the Operation Northwind in January 1945, where it suffered heavy losses. In early April 1945, the division was destroyed by the U.S. forces near Budingen, Germany. The division was formed from the units of the SS-concentration camp guards to guard the border with the Soviet Union following the 1940 German occupation of Norway. In the spring of 1941, the newly formed division was moved into positions at Salla in northern Finland with General Nikolaus von Falkenhorst in command. During the invasion of the Soviet Union, Operation Barbarossa, the unit took part in Operation Arctic Fox. The Brigade got a new unit attached, SS mountaineer (Mountain) Artillery Regiment 6, and was now designated as a Division, the SS Division Nord. In September 1941 the division was attached to the Finnish III Corps under General Hjalmar Siilasvuo, and took up new positions at Louhi, Kiestinki. By the end of 1941, it had suffered heavy casualties. Over the winter of 1941-42 it received replacements from the general pool of Waffen-SS recruits. Through the rest of 1942 and through 1943 it remains on the Kestenga front, which was quiet compared to other areas of the Eastern Front. In September 1942, the unit was renamed as the SS Mountain Division North. In September 1944 it was ordered to withdraw from Finland, upon the conclusion of a separate armistice between Finland and the Soviet Union. The division then formed the rear guard for the three German corps withdrawing from Finland in Operation Birch and from September to November 1944 marched 1,600 kilometers to Mo I Rana, Norway, where it entrained for the southern end of the country. The Norwegian Ski-Battalion unit was then left behind, in accordance with their contracts. They were merged into " SS-und-Schi-Jäger-Polizei-Battalion 506 (mot.) with app. 50% men from different German Police units in South Norway. The rest of the division was transferred to Germany. The division briefly refitted in Denmark where its losses were replaced by young Volksdeutsche (ethnic Germans) who had been conscripted into the Waffen-SS and received only a brief training. The division took part in Operation Northwind in the Low Vosges mountains of northeastern France. By 2 January, part of the division (SS Mountain Regiment 12 and 506th Battalion) went into action against the U.S. 45th Infantry Division, attached to 361st Volksgrenadier Division. For six days the SS men fought in and around the town of Wingen, finally being pushed back by the U.S. forces with most of the battle group killed or captured. On 16 January, the SS Regiment 11 surrounded six companies of the American 157th Infantry Regiment. The American troups were forced to surrender three days later, losing 482 men. Nord advanced for six more days before being stopped by American counterattacks. German attempts at a breakthrough were held altogether by 30 January. The division remained on the western front after the Northwind offensive, fighting American forces around Trier and Koblenz on the Moselle River in March. By Easter 1945 it numbered about 2,000 soldiers, including stragglers from other units. It still had six howitzers and an assault gun. The division refused to give up, and moved east to re-established contact with other German units. However, as i

"Einsatzgruppen (German for "task forces",[1] "deployment groups";[2] singular Einsatzgruppe; official full name Einsatzgruppen der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD) were Schutzstaffel (SS) paramilitary death squads of Nazi Germany that were responsible for mass killings, primarily by shooting, during World War II. The Einsatzgruppen had a leading role in the implementation of the Final Solution of the Jewish question (Die Endlösung der Judenfrage) in territories conquered by Nazi Germany. Almost all of the people they killed were civilians, beginning with the Polish intelligentsia and swiftly progressing to Soviet political commissars, Jews, and Gypsies throughout Eastern Europe." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einsatzgruppen "The SS (German: Schutzstaffel, German pronunciation: [ˈʃʊtsˌʃtafəl] ( listen), "protection squadron" or "defence corps"; also Runic "ᛋᛋ" with stylized "Armanen" sig runes) was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party (NSDAP). It began in 1923 as a small, permanent guard unit known as the "Saal-Schutz" (Hall-Protection)[1] made up of NSDAP volunteers to provide security for Nazi Party meetings in Munich. Later, in 1925, Heinrich Himmler joined the unit, which had by then been reformed and renamed the "Schutz-Staffel". Under Himmler's leadership (1929–45), it grew from a small paramilitary formation to one of the largest and most powerful organizations in the Third Reich.[2] Built upon the Nazi ideology, the SS under Himmler's command was responsible for many crimes against humanity during World War II (1939–45). The SS, along with the Nazi Party, was declared a criminal organization by the International Military Tribunal, and banned in Germany after 1945." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel "Reserve Police Battalion 101 was a Nazi German paramilitary formation of Ordnungspolizei (Order Police), serving under the control of the SS by law.[1] Formed in Hamburg, it was deployed in September 1939 along with the Wehrmacht army in the invasion of Poland. Initially, the Police Battalion 101 (German: Polizeibataillon 101) guarded Polish prisoners of war behind German lines, and carried out expulsion of Poles, called "resettlement actions", in the new Warthegau territory around Poznań and Łódź.[2] Following the personnel change and retraining from May 1941 until June 1942,[3] it became a major perpetrator of the Holocaust in occupied Poland/" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_Police_Battalion_101 See also Reserve Police Battalion 101 book by Browning on Amazon, goodreads and for more info, see here: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/battalion101.html Tags: Nazi's, Nazi Germany, Nazism, Third Reich, SS, SA, Einsatzgruppen, Reserve Police Battalion 101, Hitler, WWII, History, The Holocaust, Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing, racial anti Semitism, hate, racism, discrimination, atrocities, war, 20th Century

In sentencing, it was important for the court to prove that the murders were cruel. But I think that the murders cannot be called atrocities, as I said before, because you have to look at the world "cruel" in two different ways in relation to the charges. Every murder is cruel, but we have to differentiate relevant to the charges and we have to take into account the time the murder took place." 21. Wide exterior courthouse STORYLINE: Ending one of Germany's last trials for Nazi crimes, former SS officer Friedrich Engel was convicted on Friday of 59 counts of murder for a "cruel and illegal" World War II massacre of Italian prisoners, and sentenced to seven years in prison. But the court said he won't have to serve out his sentence due to his age. Engel, 93, denied the charges and blamed Nazi naval officers for carrying out the shootings in May 1944 at a mountain pass outside Genoa, Italy. Prosecutors sought life in prison but the Hamburg state court issued a lesser sentence, given "exceptional circumstances" created by the long interval since the crimes. The court rejected Engel's argument that naval personnel who guarded the transport from Genoa's Marassi jail bore the main responsibility, noting that Engel was the highest-ranking officer present. The court based its findings on witness accounts, including those of several former German military officers, and historical records presented during the trial, which opened on 7 May 2002. The shootings at the Turchino Pass were in retaliation for an attack on a movie theatre that killed five German soldiers during Italian partisans' fight to drive Nazi occupying forces out of the country. Prosecutors described the killings as particularly cruel, saying the Italian captives were bound in pairs and forced to walk onto a plank over an open grave where they were shot. At the time, Engel headed the Genoa branch of an SS intelligence unit charged with tracking enemies of the Nazis. He testified he approved the list of prisoners from Genoa's Marassi jail to be shot and was present during the killings, but did not order the massacre or shoot anyone himself. Engel's lawyer pleaded for acquittal, pointing out that the Hamburg state court last week upheld arguments that such reprisal killings were not explicitly outlawed under rules of war in 1944. That argument, however, also was rejected. The first Dutch SS volunteers

03:36
a meeting on June 9, 1940 between A.A. Mussert and Gottlob Berger of the German SS-Amt, Mussert was ordered by Hitler to recruit Dutch men for the Wiking division of the Waffen-SS. The Dutch volunteers would get their own regiment, the Standarte 'Westland'. There were four reasons why the formation of extension of Himmler's SS in the Netherlands was important. First, the SS wished, as a result of Himmler's desire for expansion, to take an important position in the conquered countries. Second, the SS thought it to be of great importance for the recruitment of volunteers for the Waffen-SS. The Nederlandsche SS could not only serve as a pool of reserves, but also had an important task for creating a foundation from which future recruitment could take place. Third, the Nederlandsche SS served to push Mussert in the desired direction of a Greater Germany. Finally, the formation of a Nederlandsche SS was of great propaganda value. At first Mussert refused to cooperate, but he had to make concessions to the German authorities to retain his own position. Despite his failure to cooperate and even advising NSB members not to serve in the SS, the unit was still established. The Germans got fed up with his half-hearted attitude and threatened to advance Meinoud Rost van Tonningen to his position, forcing Mussert to agree with the formation of the Nederlandsche SS, as a variant of the Allgemeine SS. On September 11, 1940 the Dutch SS was formed by Mussert, formally as Afdeling XI (Department XI) of the Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (National Socialist Movement, the NSB) making Mussert the theoretical leader of the department. Henk Feldmeijer, a protégé of Meinoud Rost van Tonningen was appointed "Voorman". In practice, Feldmeijer reported to Rauter and Heinrich Himmler, completely bypassing Mussert and his NSB. Feldmeijer sought more and more integration with the German Allgemeine SS. A training school was opened for the Dutch SS at the Avegoor estate in Ellecom in the Spring of 1941. On 1 November 1942 the name was changed to Germaansche SS in Nederland (Germanic SS in the Netherlands). This change emphasized that it was the Greater German aspect rather than the Dutch - that was of greater importance. Eerste ss battalion nederland copyright By the end of 1944 the Germaansche SS in Nederland only existed on paper, thanks to the changing tide against the Germans and their supporters as the war drew to a close.

Schutzstaffel Military March - "SS marschiert in Feindesland" [Rare Instrumental]

01:12
Devil's song, also known as "SS marschiert in Feindesland" or "Teufelslied", is a German marching song of the Nazi era. Some versions of the song were used in the Waffen-SS, Condor Legion, Hirden and other military and paramilitary forces of the Second World War. The tune of the song was copied from the Luftwaffe's Marsch der Legion Condor in 1939. The lyrics changed as the war went on. Originally they referred to the shores of the river Volga in Russia, later to those of the river Oder on the German-Polish border, where heavy fighting took place in 1945. The lyrics openly declared that the SS would destroy the "Red Plague" As the Waffen-SS gradually developed into a multi-ethnic force, translated and modified versions were sung by SS men from other countries. Among these were a French version, used by SS Division Charlemagne, a Norwegian version called "På Vikingtokt" (On Viking Raids), and an Estonian version used by members of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking and later 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS called "Kuradi Laul" (The Devil's song). It was also the marching song for the 19th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS. After the end of the Second World War, the song also found its way into the French Foreign Legion and is still sung today in a version with slightly different and translated lyrics as "La Legion marche vers le front". A version sung by the Brazilian Army Parachute Infantry Brigade (Brazil) is also known. USA: NEW YORK: TRIAL OF MAN ALLEGED TO HAVE HELPED NAZI SS GUARDS

01:14
English/Nat The civil trial of a former restaurant owner alleged to have helped train guards in Nazi Germany is underway in New York. Jack Reimer is accused of having helped Nazi S-S guards in Poland in their campaign of genocide and then later hiding his involvement to gain American citizenship. The government is trying to determine whether Reimer should have his citizenship revoked. Witnesses say his work with the Nazi guards make him an accomplice in their murder of Jews, but Reimer insists the Germans forced him into duty because of his fluency in German and Russian. Jack Reimer appeared at a federal courthouse in New York City with his lawyer on Tuesday. The 79-year-old Ukrainian-born defendant is on trial to determine whether he can keep his American citizenship. Reimer is accused of having trained guards in Nazi Germany and ultimately helping the Nazi S-S massacre Polish Jews. He is accused of later distorting his alleged past to gain entrance to the United States after emigrating there in 1951. He later became a citizen and eventually opened up his own restaurant in New York City. The government is trying to argue that Reimer covered up his past involvement in the genocide to gain his citizenship under false pretences. But Reimer says he was the victim, forced into working with the Nazis at the Trawniki training camp against his will because they needed his fluency in German and Russian. Former government officials who originally issued Reimer's citizenship papers testified against him on Tuesday. Ramsey Clarke, Reimer's attorney in the civil case, says Tuesday's witnesses are not credible. He accused those who testified of relying on hindsight about events they did not witness. Clarke played down the witnesses' remarks, saying they made claims now that they were unable to make at the time of the alleged crimes. SOUNDBITE: (English) "It was like a Monday morning quarterback, 50 years later by people who weren't at the game. (Q why?) Why? Because none of the witnesses were involved in reviewing things 50 years ago that they were testifying about. They know nothing about it." SUPER CAPTION: Ramsey Clarke, Defence Attorney On Monday, three Holocaust victims said it was unlikely Reimer was unaware or innocent of the killings going on around him at the Polish camp. But they were unable to positively identify him as having been at the camp. Rosemary Carmody, one of the witnesses who testified on Tuesday, believes the citizenship given to Reimer was a stolen one. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Well, as I said, if somebody who should not have had a visa got a visa, he kept it from somebody, some poor, honest soul who should have had it." SUPER CAPTION: Rosemary Carmody, Witness Reimer and Clarke left the courthouse looking a bit tense after the day's proceedings, with Clarke chastising the media. UPSOUND: (English) "Let's have a little decency here, get away will you, get away from the man, will you?" SUPER CAPTION: Ramsey Clarke, Defence Attorney The two hope to prove that if Reimer did help the Nazis, it was against his will. WWII SS German Himmler dagger

02:06
The SS (Schutzstaffel) was originally formed in 1925. It was formed to act as a small bodyguard unit to protect the Führer, Adolf Hitler. Under the direction of the Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the SS grew to be the most ruthless and feared organization of the 20th century. They were the vanguard of Nazism and eventually controlled nearly every function of German life and much of Occupied Europe. The SS dagger was introduced in 1933. Early on, members of the SS were awarded their daggers during a ceremony at the Feldherrnhalle Memorial in Munich. The annual ritual, charged with mysticism and meant to reflect the traditions of medieval Teutonic knights, was held on 9 November, the date of the martyred unsuccessful Putsch of 1923. Both officers and enlisted men wore the identical dagger until 1936. After this time, only enlisted men wore the M1933 dagger. The SS dagger was equipped with nickel crossguards with an ebony wood grip. The black grip contained a National eagle with swastika insignia recessed in the center area and an SS sigrunne button inset at the top. On early examples the scabbard shell surface was factory blackened using a metal bluing process. The scabbard had nickel mounts. The SS blade was a polished type containing the SS motto, Meine Ehre Heisst Treue (My Honor is Loyalty). The SS Himmler Honour Dagger was introduced in 1934 after the successful purge called "The Night of the Long Knives". It was presented to 200 members of the SS who took part in the purge. The obverse of the dagger had the standard "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" (My Honour is Loyalty) with the Special "Honour" dedication being engraved onto the reverse side of the blade. The dedication read "In Herzlicher Freundschaft, H. Himmler" (In Cordial Comradeship, H. Himmler).

Finland WW2 in color Suomi war 1939 Finnish Waffen-SS Potpourri Marssi March

09:18
Pretty awesome Finland in colour war pictures which I would like to share. Some of them are from the winter war of 1939 and the others are from the world war two. I don't have information about this photo's so if you know something about them then please tell! I only know something about the first 6 pic's. I've add Finnish or Suomi (which is Finnish for Finland) music. Songs; - Finnish Suomi SS Potpourri (that's a mix of different Finnish songs which you may know since they are 'stolen' from the Germans) - Suomi Marssi (sounds just like the Englandlied) - Div. SS Wiking - Asevoikka (Suomi) (sounds like ' mein guter Kamerad, ich hatt einen kameraden' ) I guess they also sing something that's pretty alike to what the Germans sing so that's why I've add the graveyard pictures there. I will try to find some lyrics, I have found the songtext of the Finnish Erika song which means Kaarina in Finnish. Kaarina (Erika) Suomi Finnish Kankahalla kasvaa kaunis kukkanen, Nimeltään Kaarina. It saw action on the Eastern Front during World War II. Formed in 1941 as SS Freiwilligen-Battalion Nordost, the battalion was made up of 1,200 Finnish volunteers who had signed to fight against the Soviet Union for two years. While many Finns were already serving with the SS-Division Wiking, the battalion differed in that it was staffed with Finnish officers and NCOs (Wiking being commanded by Germans). The mathematician Rolf Nevanlinna was chairman of the Committee for the Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS. After initial training in Vienna the battalion was transferred to Stralsund in June 1941 and at the beginning of August to the infantry barracks at Gross-Born, Pomerania, for more training and where it was attached to SS Division Wiking. The battalion was sent to the Eastern front in January 1942 and took part on battles along the Mius River and later in the Caucasus campaign of 1942, forming the vanguard of the furthest south made by the Germans during the campaign, reaching the Grozny oil fields before finally being pushed back by the Soviets. In May 1943 the battalion was transferred away from the front, as the two years was at an end, and was disbanded in July 1943. Those members of the battalion who wanted to stay in Waffen-SS joined SS Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier Division Nordland or SS-Standarte Kurt Eggers. The unit lost 255 men killed in action, 686 wounded and 14 missing during its service. The battalion was praised by many Waffen-SS commanders, even Heinrich Himmler, for its combat performance. Himmler said "Where a Finnish SS-man stood, enemy was always defeated." Moreover, the unit or its members were never accused of any war crimes.

The Nazi SS division made up of murderers and rapists

06:57
They were Hitler's equivalent of the Dirty Dozen and known as the 'worst of the worst' - an entire SS division made up entirely of psychopaths, murderers and rapists and led by a child molester. The 36th Waffen SS Grenadier Division, commanded by Oskar Dirlewanger, was initially created to wage war against resistance fighters in Poland, but soon became a weapon of terror used indiscriminately against civilians and armed combatants alike.Over the course of the war the unit was implicated in campaigns of rape, mass murder and poisonings including injecting Jews with strychnine and watching as they died in agony. The first men invited to join the 36th were convicted poachers on the grounds that they could use their skills as woodsmen to track down guerrilla fighters in their countryside hideaways. Each man was offered a pardon for his crimes should he survive the dangerous tasks he was to undertake, which in Hitler's Germany also meant earning their citizenship back.55 men signed up for the job.But the missions were so dangerous, and Dirlewanger so given to executing his men for infractions, that he quickly ran out of recruits. It was then that the offer was opened up to all manner of criminals. While offenders were typically banned from wielding firearms in the army, they were welcomed by Dirlewanger who amassed a band of several hundred murderers, rapists and those deemed criminally insane. In one of their most infamous exploits, his men were asked to put down the Warsaw Uprising. What followed was the Wola Massacre, in which 40,000 civilians in that district were slaughtered in two weeks.Dirlewanger's men went after everyone, including all hospital patients and staff, and even butchered 500 children found hiding in one building.A soldier serving in the area later said Dirlewanger that ordered his troops to conserve ammunition by finished the youngsters off with rifle butts and bayonets. The 36th did not emerge from the uprising unscathed, however. It went into Warsaw with just over 800 men, and lost 2,700 during the fighting including reinforcements, a casualty rate of 315 per cent.Dirlewanger did survive, however, and was recommended for an Iron Cross for his efforts. The 'heroics' of the men also saw their then-regiment upgraded to a division for the first time, and reinforce to a strength of 4,000.But as the war dragged on and defeat became more of a possibility, desertion became more and more common and the division began to fall apart. On 1 May 1945, the Soviets all-but wiped the divison out in the Halbe Pocket.Fritz Schmedes, who was then in command after Dirlewanger was wounded in an earlier battle, marched the remaining 700 men to the US Army, where they surrendered on May 3.Strafbattalion: Hitler's Penal Battalions by author Walter S.Zapotoczny is published by Fonthill Media, and can be purchased here Who are the Dirty Dozen? Waffen-SS

03:36
The Waffen-SS (German pronunciation: [Armed SS) was created as the armed wing of the Nazi Party's Schutzstaffel ("Protective Squadron"), and gradually developed into a military force of Nazi Germany. The Waffen-SS grew from three regiments to over 38 divisions during World War II, and served alongside the Heer (regular army) but was never formally part of it. Adolf Hitler resisted integrating the Waffen-SS into the army, as it was to remain the armed wing of the Party and to become an elite police force once the war was won. Prior to the war it was under the control of the SS Führungshauptamt (SS operational command office) beneath Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. Upon mobilization its tactical control was given to the High Command of the Armed Forces (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht). Adolf Hitler, realizing the potential threat the SA presented, ordered the formation of a bodyguard for himself in early 1923. Originally the unit was composed of only eight men, commanded by Julius Schreck and Joseph Berchtold. It was designated the Stabswache (Staff Guard). Soon after its formation, the unit was renamed "Stoßtrupp (Shock Troop) 'Adolf Hitler'". In April 1925, Hitler ordered the formation of a new bodyguard unit, the "Schutzkommando" (Protection Command). The unit was renamed the "Sturmstaffel" (Assault Squadron) shortly thereafter, and in November was renamed the Schutzstaffel, abbreviated "SS". Initially membership was open to "Aryans" only in accordance with the racial policies of the Nazi state.

NATO SS? Czech troops wear Nazi insignia in Afghanistan

The NATO mission in Afghanistan has been shaken by the news that two Czech officers were found wearing Nazi insignia. The symbols of SS battalions on their helmets has resulted in the two men being suspended. Their commanding officer has also been suspended amid reports that he'd ordered a cover-up. The two soldiers recently returned from Afghanistan and received state awards.

1st Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler in Action Part 2

10:02
The Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) was Adolf Hitler's personal bodyguard. Initially the size of a regiment, the LSSAH eventually grew into a divisional-sized unit. The term Leibstandarte was derived partly from Leibgarde "Life Guard" -- a somewhat archaic German expression for the personal bodyguard of a military leader - and Standarte: the Schutzstaffel (SS) or Sturmabteilung (SA) term for a regiment-sized unit. The LSSAH independently participated in combat during the invasion of Poland, and was amalgamated into the Waffen-SS together with the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT) and the combat units of the SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV) prior to Operation Barbarossa in 1941. By the end of World War II it had been increased in size from a regiment to a Panzer division. The elite division, a component of the Waffen-SS, fought in every campaign of the war. Especially in the Eastern Front. In the earliest days of the NSDAP, leaders realized that bodyguard units composed of trustworthy and loyal men would be a wise development. Ernst Röhm formed a guard formation from the 19.Granatwerfer-Kompanie, and from this formation the Sturmabteilung (SA) soon evolved. The Stabswache were issued unique badges, but at this stage the Stabswache was still was under overall SA control. Schreck resurrected the use of the Totenkopf (death's head) as the unit's insignia, a symbol various elite forces had used throughout the Prussian kingdom and the later German Empire. Soon after its formation, the unit was renamed "Stoßtrupp (Shock Troop) 'Adolf Hitler'". On 9 November 1923 the Stoßtrupp, along with the SA and several other NSDAP paramilitary units, took part in the abortive Beer Hall Putsch in Munich. In the aftermath of the putsch, Hitler was imprisoned and the NSDAP and all associated formations, including the Stoßtrupp, were officially disbanded. Shortly after his release from prison in April 1925, Hitler ordered the formation of a new bodyguard unit, the "Schutzkommando" (Protection Command). The unit was renamed the "Sturmstaffel" (Assault Squadron) shortly thereafter, and in November was renamed the Schutzstaffel, abbreviated "SS". By March 1933 the SS had grown from a tiny personal bodyguard unit to a formation of over 50,000 men. The decision was made to form a new bodyguard unit, again called the Stabswache, using capable and trustworthy SS men, mostly from the 1st SS Standarte operating out of Munich to form its cadre. By 1933 this unit was under the command of Josef "Sepp" Dietrich, who selected 117 men for the SS-Stabswache Berlin. Out of these initial 117 men, three eventually became divisional commanders, at least eight would become regimental commanders, fifteen became battalion commanders, and over thirty became company commanders, all within the Waffen SS. Eleven men from the first company of 117 went on to win the Knights Cross, and forty of them were awarded the German Cross in gold for bravery. Later in 1933, two further training units were formed: "SS-Sonderkommando Zossen", and a second unit, designated "SS-Sonderkommando Jüterbog." In September 1933 the two Sonderkommandos merged into the "SS-Sonderkommando Berlin". In November 1933, on the 10th anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch, the Sonderkommando took part in the rally and memorial service at the Feldherrnhalle, erected in the place where many NSDAP members had fallen during the putsch. All members of the Sonderkommando swore personal allegiance to Hitler. To conclude this ceremony, the Sonderkommando received a new title, "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler"" (LAH). And then later, 1st Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler(LSSAH) which would see combat unlike any other, and the Eastern Front would be their most brutal test.

Newsreel of the Estonian and Latvian Waffen-SS in Action

03:19
This unit had its origins in the Estonian SS Legion which was first formed on the 28th of August, 1942. Wikipedia: Division - Battles at Narva In January 1944, the 20. Estnische SS-Freiwilligen-Division began formation. The majority of the troops were drawn from the 3. Estnische SS-Freiwilligen Brigade, however elements from Ost Battalions Nr. 658, also known as Pups of Rebane (="Fox") and Nr. 659, the 287.Polizei-Füsilier-Bataillon and the returned Estonian volunteers of the Finnish army unit Infantry Regiment 200 were also absorbed into the division. On 8 February 1944, the division was attached to SS-Gruppenführer Felix Steiner's III SS (Germanic) Panzer Corps, currently defending the heavily pressured Narva bridgehead. The division was to replace the remnants of the 9. and 10.Luftwaffe-Feld-Divisions, which were struggling to hold the line against a Soviet bridgehead near Siivertsi. Upon arriving at the front on 20 February, the Estonians were immediately ordered to eradicate the threatening Siivertsi Soviet bridgehead. In nine days of heavy fighting, the division had pushed the Soviets back across the river, and restored the line. The division remained stationed in the Ssivertsi sector, being engaged in heavy combat. In May, the division was pulled back and reformed as the 20. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr.1), and the returned Narwa battalion was absorbed into the division as the reconnaissance abteilung. By that time active conscription of Estonian men into the German armed forces was well under way, in violation of the international law of war. By spring 1944, approximately 32 000 men were drafted into the German forces, with the 20. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr.1) consisting of some 15 000 men. When Steiner ordered a withdrawal to the Tannenbergstellung on July 25, the division was deployed on the Kinderheim-höhe, the first line of defence for the new position. Over the next month, the division was engaged in heavy defensive battles on the Kinderheim and Grenadier-höhe. In mid-August, the division's 45th Estland and 46th regiments were formed into Kampfgruppe Vent and sent south to help defend the Emajogi river line, seeing heavy fighting. When Hitler authorised a full withdrawal from Estonia in mid September, all men who wished to stay to defend their homes were released from service. Many chose this offer, fighting the Soviets alongside other Estonians and then withdrawing into the forests to become the Forest Brothers. Severely weakened by this, the division was withdrawn to Neuhammer to be refitted. Vistula-Oder Offensive - Final battles Eventually, the reformed division numbered roughly 11,000 Estonians and 2,500 Germans. It was returned to the line in late February, just in time for the Soviet Vistula-Oder Offensive. This offensive forced the German forces back behind the Oder and Neisse rivers. The division was pushed back to the Neisse, taking heavy casualties. The division was then trapped with the XI. Armeekorps in the Oberglogau - Falkenberg - Friedberg area. On 17 March, the division launched a major escape attempt, but despite making headway, the attempt failed. On 19 March, the division tried again, this time succeeding but leaving all heavy weapons and equipment behind in the pocket. In April 1945, the shattered remnants of the division were moved south to the area around Goldberg. After the final Soviet offensive, the division attempted to break out in the west, in order to surrender to the western Allies. After marching over the Reichenberg and Annaberg mountains, the division was encircled by Russian forces and capitulated on May 8. Some of the Estonians who had reached the western allies were handed back to the Soviets. The survivors could, at best, expect a lengthy stay in the Gulags. In contrast, some veterans of the Estonian Legion served as guards under American leadership at the Nuremberg Nazi war crimes trials. -- The Baltic Schutzmannschaft found themselves in a unique situation, they saw the Germans as liberators from Bolshevism. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were occupied by the Soviet Union for slightly over a year and had experienced the brutality of the Soviets hence a passionate zeal against Bolshevism. The fighting in and around Narva, Estonia was also known as the "Battle of the European SS" since it involved a great number of foreign members in the Waffen-SS.

German eye witness testimony of SS murders the world doesn't want to hear

03:20
German ex WW2 soldier forever haunted by memories of cruel shooting of girl pleading for mercy. Written English translation of a filmed interview of a 93 year old ex German Wehrmacht Soldier. He witnessed an SS mass shooting of Jews who were forced to dig a deep trench in which they were shot dead shortly after. The English translation below is accurate (NOT a word by word translation). I saw a group of people, men women and children, tied together by their hands with wire were being herded through a village by SS men. I said to my friend, also a soldier, let's go and find out what these people are doing. We followed at a fair distance behind as they were being led out of the village. Then we saw there were already hundreds of people on trucks and by foot. To our dismay we realized they were all Jews. These Jews had been forced to dig a trench 150 metres long,2.5m wide, 3m deep. They were pushed in one by one and were forced to lay face down head to feet until the row filled the length of the trench. Then from each end of the trench one SS soldier with a Russian machine pistol would walk along the trench shooting people in the back of their heads. When they had finished they walked along the trench again and if somebody in the trench still moved they were shot again. Then more people were forced to lie on top of the dead bodies. At one point a girl aged about 12 screamed terribly distressed in German "Please let me live I'm only a child" She was immediately picked up,thrown into the trench and shot. http://www.dhm.de/lemo/forum/kollektives_gedaechtnis/544/

WW2 - SS-General Josef Dietrich

03:28
Dietrich, Josef SS-General A Sergeant Major in the First World War and a member of the Nazi Party from 1928, Joseph Dietrich was chosen to form the S.S. bodyguard that became known as the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. Under Dietrich the Leibstandarte became an elite military unit and by 1940 a full division. The formidable reputation that the Waffen S. S. was to achieve for courage and resource in adversity was in large part due to Dietrich, who, while lacking the strategic genius of Rommel or Manstein, proved himself tactically adept and an exemplary commander of men. He proved too, to be a man receptive to new ideas. Disdaining the field grey of the Wehrmacht, he outfitted his men with camouflaged combat fatigues, an innovation so novel that the Wehrmacht likened them to tree frogs. Under Dietrich, now a Major General, the Leibstandarte distinguished itself in France and the Balkans. In Greece, Dietrich's S.S. troops harried the British down through the Monastir Gap and across the Isthmus of Corinth to a hasty evacuation of the Peloponese. For the invasion of Russia Dietrich ordered winter clothing for his troops. He had served on the Eastern Front in the First World War and knew the realities of the Russian climate, but such precautions were not taken by the Wehrmacht, and when Winter came Dietrich's supplies were quite often simply commandeered. In the savage battles of 1942 the Leibstandarte grew to maturity, their reputation for dash and elan in attack further enhanced by their steadfastness and determination in defence. For this Dietrich must take much of the credit. To his men he was known simply as Sepp. Though course and often foul-mouthed, his personal bravery was legendary. As a man who had come through the ranks, he was the epitome of a soldier's soldier, adored by his men, feared but respected by his enemies. As the head of his personal bodyguard, Sepp Dietrich was an old friend of Adolf Hitler as well as a loyal and trusted party comrade. In 1944 Hitler gave Dietrich command of three armies for a German counter-offensive in the West. Despite his failure to achieve a decisive victory in what became known as the Battle of the Bulge, Dietrich's attack shocked the Allies and greatly damaged American morale. In 1945 Dietrich led the 6th S.S. Panzer Army in the last desperate battles for Hungary and Austria, suffering appalling losses and withdrawing Westward to surrender his forces to advancing American troops rather than to the Russians. In 1946 Sepp Dietrich was sentenced to 25 years in prison by an American military court for the murder of American soldiers in Belgium. Continuing controversy over the verdict and over the incident itself contributed to his release after serving 10 years.

1st Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler in Action Part 1

09:17
