In this video, I will teach you common phrasal verbs that we use when talking about traveling. But first, I will explain what phrasal verbs are and show you their importance in conversational English. We will look at how to correctly use "drop off", "see off", "take off", "get in", "check in", and more. Join me, and get ready for a big trip to improve both your life and your English! TAKE THE QUIZ: http://www.engvid.com/phrasal-verbs-for-travel-drop-off-get-in-check-out/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video I'm going to talk about something I love, and that is travel. So, if you like travelling too, if you're planning on going on a vacation, or if you know somebody who's travelling, this video will be very, very helpful to you. In this video I'm going to teach you some very important verbs. They're all phrasal verbs, and I'll explain what a phrasal verb is in a moment. So, these are all verbs that we use when we're talking about travel. Okay. So, to get started, I wanted to tell you a little bit about phrasal verbs. What is a phrasal verb? One of the difficulties students have with English are verbs where you have a verb and a preposition. So, when you see a verb and a preposition together, that's a phrasal verb. Now, you might be thinking: "What's a preposition?" Good question. I'm going to give you an example. We have here four words, each of these is a phrasal verb. They all have the verb "get": "get in", "get up", "get on", "get over", and there's many more, "get away". There's tons of them. Each of these actually can have multiple meanings, too. So, one of the most difficult parts about English is learning phrasal verbs, because this, the blue part is the preposition, it can change the meaning of the verb. Okay? So, prepositions are words like: "on", "off", "up", "down", "toward", "over", "away", these types of words are prepositions. So, you'll notice with phrasal verbs, they're very, very common in conversation. They're... You can write them down, too, but in general, when people talk they often use phrasal verbs. Okay? So, they're very, very important, especially when you're talking about going on a trip with your friends or family. So let's look at some of the common phrasal verbs we use when we're talking about trips. The first verb I want to teach you: "Drop off". Okay? So: "drop" is the verb, "off" is the preposition, together: "drop off" is a phrasal verb. What does this mean: "drop off"? When you "drop someone off" it means you're taking them to a place and then you leave them there. So, for example, maybe your friend needs to go to the airport, so you drive them to the airport and you drop them off at the airport. This means you take them there and you leave them in that place. Okay? So they don't come home with you; they stay there. So, for example, I have a friend named Frank, and when Frank goes travelling: "We drop Frank off at the airport." So, we drive Frank to the airport, he has all his luggage, his suitcases, and then we say to Frank: "Goodbye, Frank, you know, have a nice trip." We drop Frank off at the airport. You can also use "drop off" in a lot of other situations. For example, when you were a child maybe your parents, your mom or your dad, or maybe your grandparents dropped you off at school. This means that they took you to school, and then once you got to school, they would say goodbye to you and they would leave. So: "drop off" means you take someone to a place, and then you leave them there. You'll also notice... So, I have here the verb and the preposition. "Frank" is a name of a person and it's in the middle of "drop" and "off". Okay? So, these two are not together. We drop somebody off at the airport. Okay? So, sometimes with phrasal verbs... For some phrasal verbs you actually separate them, and you can put the names of somebody between them; for other ones you can't do that. For this one: "drop off", you put the name between the two... Between the verb and the preposition. So, now let's look at another example of a common phrasal verb. "See off". Okay? So, again, we have "off" in both of these. "See off" is when... It's similar to "drop off", but it's a little bit different. Sometimes your family or your friends are going away for a long time, maybe they're going on a vacation or a trip, so you want to "see them off". It means you want to say goodbye to them at the airport, at the train station, maybe at their house. So, it's that goodbye you say before somebody goes off on a vacation. Okay? So, for example: "We see Frank off." Frank is going to Australia, so we go to the airport because we want to say goodbye to Frank, so: "We see Frank off" is another way to say: "We say goodbye to Frank when he goes on his trip."

#Traveling Pakistan#Lahore visiting#tourists area in pakistan#wild life traveling SHORT TRAVELING HISTORY!! The origin of the word "travel" is most likely lost to history. The term "travel" may originate from the Old French word travail, which means 'work'.[3] According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the first known use of the word travel was in the 14th century. It also states that the word comes from Middle English travailen, travelen (which means to torment, labor, strive, journey) and earlier from Old French travailler (which means to work strenuously, toil). In English we still occasionally use the words "travail", which means struggle. According to Simon Winchester in his book The Best Travelers' Tales (2004), the words "travel" and "travail" both share an even more ancient root: a Roman instrument of torture called the tripalium (in Latin it means "three stakes", as in to impale). This link may reflect the extreme difficulty of travel in ancient times. Today, travel may or may not be much easier depending upon the destination you choose (e.g. Mt. Everest, the Amazon rainfore Travel dates back to antiquity where wealthy Greeks and Romans would travel for leisure to their summer homes and villas in cities such as Pompeii and Baiae.[7] While early travel tended to be slower, more dangerous, and more dominated by trade and migration, cultural and technological advances over many years have tended to mean that travel has become easier and more accessible.[8] Mankind has come a long way in transportation since Christopher Columbus sailed to the new world from Spain in 1492, an expedition which took over 10 weeks to arrive at the final destination; to the 21st century where aircraft allow travel from Spain to the United States overnight. Travel in the Middle Ages offered hardships and challenges, however, it was important to the economy and to society. The wholesale sector depended (for example) on merchants dealing with/through caravans or sea-voyagers, end-user retailing often demanded the services of many itinerant peddlers wandering from village to hamlet, gyrovagues (Wandering Monks) and wandering friars brought theology and pastoral support to neglected areas, travelling minstrels practiced the never-ending tour, and armies ranged far and wide in various crusades and in sundry other wars.[7] Pilgrimages were common in both the European and Islamic world and involved streams of travellers both locally (Canterbury Tales-style) and internationally.[9] In the late 16th century it became fashionable for young European aristocrats and wealthy upper class men to travel to significant European cities as part of their education in the arts and literature. This was known as the Grand Tour, it included cities such as London, Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome. However, The French revolution brought with it the end of the Grand Tour.[7] Travel by water often provided more comfort and speed than land-travel, at least until the advent of a network of railways in the 19th century. Travel for the purpose of tourism is reported to have started around this time when people began to travel for fun as travel was no longer a hard and challenging task. This was capitalised on by people like Thomas Cook selling tourism packages where trains and hotels were booked together.[10] Airships and airplanes took over much of the role of long-distance surface travel in the 20th century, notably after the second World War where there was a surplus of both aircraft and pilots.

Martyna Chrześcijańska, first prize in the contest " A Sea of Words 2014"

06:26
Barcelona, 21st October 2014 - The polish Martyna Chrześcijańska has been awarded the first prize for her short story "7 years in the Dreamland" in the 2014 edition of the Short Story Contest "A Sea o Words". The montenegrin Mladen Grgić (with “Suicides from the back”) and palestinian Sayed Ismail (with “Love comes from the North”) have been awarded the second and third prizes. Out of the 189 participants in this edition, fifteen young people from European and Mediterranean countries (Palestine, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Egypt, Spain, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Latvia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and Tunisia) have been awarded. In the framework of the Council of Europe campaign "Young People Combating Hate Speech Online", the seventh edition of the Mediterranean literary contest "A Sea of Words" sought not only to reflect on the existence of speech that encourages racism and discrimination in Euro-Mediterranean countries but also to propose ways of opposing these narratives. The contest is organized since 2008 by the IEMed and the Anna Lindh Foundation. More on: www.iemed.org/seaofwords

10 Roads You Would Never Want to Drive On

Top 10 Most Dangerous Roads and Highways from around the world you should never take your car on. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like Strange Things That Only Happen In America 10 Largest Holes Swallowing Earth Description: Since the invention of the modern automobile, we have been in love with our cars, trucks and motorcycles. It’s hard to think how we could function on a daily basis without a personal car around to take us to the grocery store, movie theatre or over to a friend’s house. This mode of transportation is such an important part of most peoples’ lives that we have no idea how we’d cope if cars suddenly disappeared tomorrow. Sure, most cars pollute and after a decade or so we get rid of the old and bring in a new car – filling up wrecking yards and burnings tons of gasoline in the process. The automobile is so important that rather than develop a whole new mode of transportation we instead focus our energy on creating more efficient gasoline burning engines and new models of electric cars. Nonetheless, the car is an integral part of our lives and our culture. Of course, many people have often heard the saying (but never really payed any attention to it) that driving is one of the most dangerous things we do in our daily lives. Indeed, getting behind the wheel of your ride and heading off to work or some other destination can be very dangerous. Statistically, the number crunchers say that you are far more likely to die driving your car than flying in a plane. The numbers seem to back this up by showing that over 90 people are killed every day in motor vehicle accidents in the US alone. It all makes sense once you think about it. If you think about all the people out on the road and add in distracted and drunk drivers, mechanical failures and bad weather then it’s easy to see why driving can be so dangerous. But what about the actual sections of roads and highways that seemingly have a high number of accidents and fatalities all year round. That is, it can be bad enough driving on ‘regular’ roads and highways around the world but there are roads which, for whatever reason, just seem more dangerous than the rest. You are probably picturing the classic mountain side road, carved into the rock with minimal safety barriers and exposed to landslides and all the inclement weather you can think of. Yes, those roads are very dangerous, but they aren’t the only ones to avoid driving on. As part two of our ‘dangerous roads’ series, we look at 10 roads you probably wouldn’t want to drive on. These motorways are found all across the world, in all sorts of environments and at all sorts of altitudes. There are the expected mountain roads – narrow and crumbling where one small mistake means you are going for a very long fall. There are also the remote and isolated highways running through deserts and the vastness of Siberia. There are even the sea level roads which provide their own nasty little surprise that can ruin your day (or life). We guarantee that after seeing this your daily commute will appear to be a walk in the park. 5 Most DANGEROUS Tourist Destinations In The World!

5 Most DANGEROUS Tourist Destinations In The World! Description: Under normal circumstances, tourist destinations are supposed to be attractive destinations that provide a relaxing atmosphere and nurturing environment. This is what attracts tourists in the first place. But among all destinations, there are some that are known to be quite dangerous to visit. With this being said, prepare, because here are the 5 Most DANGEROUS Tourist Destinations In The World! You dont want to miss this. Lets begin! 1. Death Road The ‘Death Road’ is a road that stretches more than 69 kilometers and is found in the Yungas region in Bolivia. Researchers have termed it as one of the world’s most dangerous roads. There are several risks that are associated with this road. The first is the fact that the ground on which the road is built is unstable and not firm. This makes the road susceptible to mudslides which also possess great risks to motorists. Another risk is the fact that the road has no side rails that are supposed to prevent vehicles from rolling over the descent that goes more than 600 meters. Statistically, over 200 people fall victim of the roads unfriendliness and tourists are mostly advised to avoid it. 2. El Caminito Del Rey El Caminito Del Rey is one of the most dangerous walkways in the world. It is named so because Spain’s King Alfonso once walked on it. It is only about a meter in width but is linked between two cliffs that are about 200 meters apart and 100 meters in depth. However, over the years the walkway has been neglected and is currently in a sorry state to say the least. The path is currently closed to the public but people steal chances to go and have a hike on the path. There have been over 4 deaths recorded since the path was neglected and this could probably explain why it was closed to the public. Even though it is closed to the public, it is still so popular that money is being pumped into repairs in order to ensure it is reopened. 3. Mount Hua Shan You want to go hike in the most dangerous place in the world? Then welcome to Mt Hua Shan. This is probably one of the most dangerous hiking places in the world. When you visit this place, it will not take you a minute to understand why it is dangerous. The wooden planks that have been aligned along the mountain could easily fall off anytime one steps on it inappropriately. When the planks fall off, the only option hikers are left with is to step on the foothold, otherwise, you have to let go. It is estimated that close to 100 people lose their lives on this mountain annually. So next time you plan to hike on this mountain, take note of the statistics. https://blindside.me/ 4. Running of the Bulls This is an event that happens every year in Spain. In this event, six bulls are released onto the streets and they are left to run freely for about 825 meters. The events attracts in excess of 20000 people each year. Statistically, about 100 people get injured on annual basis while over 15 deaths have been recorded since its inception. . While they are at it, people might either be considered to be brave or just completely foolish by running on this event. How would you categorize these people? Let us know in the comments below! 5. Trolltunga The Troll’s tongue is one of the most dangerous attractions in Norway. If you look at the site itself, you will definitely understand why it is one of the most dangerous places. The stone is elevated almost 800 meters high and takes one about 10 hours to get to the top. In addition to that, there are no rails around the stone to protect observers from the top vantage point and this even makes it worse. It is said that there is an Australian woman who plunged to her death from the stone this year, although it is the first ever recorded death in the Trolltunga. Simple Relativity - Understanding Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity

05:56
Simple Relativity is a 2D short educational animation film. The film is an attempt to explain Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity with a simpler visual representation and exciting animation. In a time when our day-to-day life is surrounded by technology, most people find it daunting to understand the science and its application. Simple Relativity is an attempt to excite the viewer about this complex phenomenon of Relativity so that they can approach this, and science in general, with a lot more curiosity rather than inhibition.

14 Roads You Would Never Want to Drive On

10:31
Some people love riding a roller coaster. The feeling of “having their heart in their mouth” makes them thrilled and high on adrenaline. But have you heard of the ways which go through the clouds? Today, let’s visit the most incredible and dangerous roads in the world. They overshadow even the coolest rides and leave people driving on them breathless and terrified. TIMESTAMPS Guoliang Tunnel, China 0:36 Maeklong Railway Market, Thailand 1:22 Yungas Road, Bolivia 1:58 Eyre Highway, Australia 2:47 The “Nose of the Devil” Railway, Ecuador 3:23 Pamban Railway Bridge, India 3:57 Karakoram Highway, Pakistan - China 4:35 Passage de Gois, France 5:12 Leh-Manali Highway, India 5:51 Tianmen Mountain Road, China 6:24 Road through Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia 6:53 Road through Skippers Canyon, New Zealand 7:34 The James W. Dalton Highway, Alaska, USA 8:22 “Train to the Clouds”, Argentina 9:21 SUMMARY - The Guoliang Tunnel is an amazing 0,7 mi (1.2 km) long mountain road in China. The story of its creation is unbelievable! Before its construction there had been a very dangerous path with narrow steep stairs which didn’t have any handrails. - The sellers take their goods away and fold their tents in seconds, giving way to the train which moves at a speed of about 9 mi/h (15 km/h). This is the reason the market is sometimes called Talat Rom Hoop which means “Market Umbrella Close”. - Yungas Road (also called Death Road) connects Bolivian cities of La Paz and Coroico. It descends from the height of 2 miles to 1,181 ft (3,300 to 360 m) above sea level. Despite the fact that the road is very narrow, even trucks manage to pass each other. - If you look at this highway, you will surely ask, “So what is so dangerous on this straight road?” Right, this is the longest straight road in the world with the length of about 994 miles (1,600 km)! - The “Nose of the Devil” railway is built on the rock which has the same name. It was called this way because people believed that Devil didn’t want a railway to pass through that place - that’s why so many deaths occurred among the people who built the road. - Pamban is India’s first sea bridge built in 1914. It connects the mainland part of India with the island which has the same name. In 1964 there was a storm which hit the island. It overturned a passenger train and all 150 people who were inside died. - At 807,7 miles (1,300 km) long, Karakoram is considered the world’s most high-altitude international highway. One of its sections passes at the altitude of more than 15,091 ft (4,600 m). - This is the road between the island of Noirmoutier and mainland France. This passage seems quite common, doesn’t it? It is, until you get to know that to drive along it, you will need to know the schedule of the tides! In fact, the road is approachable only twice a day - before and right after the low tide. - Leh-Manali Highway runs through several high mountain passes. It is located at the altitude of 13,034 to 16,404 ft (4 to 5 km). This road is extremely narrow, covered with dirt and gravel, but this doesn’t prevent local drivers from zooming through at high speeds. - This road leads to the top of Tianmen Mountain where a Buddhist temple is situated. It is only 6.8 miles (11 km) long but it can boast 99 bends with the distance between some of the curves less than 656 ft (200 m)! - The highway which runs through the dried Solar de Uyuni is located at the altitude of 11,811 ft (3,650 m) above sea level. Local landscapes are so unusual that they can be taken for some extraterrestrial grounds! - This road was built in 1880s and it is a true wonder of engineering. The construction took only 5 years and it has remained mostly unchanged since then! This amazing passage has numerous holes, cliffs, steep descents and sharp bends. - Only 108,7 miles (175 km) of this 413,8 miles (666 km) highway are covered with bitumen, the rest of the way you have to drive on gravel. Tough weather conditions, winds, unexpected changes from 2 to 4 lanes and back, poor visibility have made this road particularly deadly. - If you decide to make a 15-hour train journey, be ready to pass through 21 tunnels, 42 bridges and viaducts, 2 spirals and 2 more zigzags on the 134,8 mi (217 km) road! This railway is one of the highest in the world, its top point (at the end of the line) is situated at the altitude of 13,780 ft (4,200 km). Beautiful Light Music - easy smooth inspirational - long playlist by relaxdaily: Ocean Breeze

02:11:34
Listen to a 2h long playlist with relaxdaily music. Beautiful, light instrumental music with an easy, smooth and inspirational attitude. ► NEW: Enjoy an upgraded relaxdaily listening experience: https://relaxdaily.net/morning-music/ 'Ocean Breeze', a music mix I made up from my own releases from the last 1,5 years. Think of it as another 2h relax radio playlist. For more music, mixes and playlists join me at my website or my YouTube channel. - Michael (relaxdaily musician) Relaxdaily's background music instrumentals: beautiful, light, inspirational music that can be used as a soundtrack for multiple activities. Depending on your interest you might use my music in your relax radio playlist, as yoga music, as music while you're studying, doing homework, working (mentally, creatively), reading, writing, while thinking or reflecting, dreaming, reviewing, making future plans. Some use it as "sleep music" (I personally think there's better sleep music out there, but it seems to work ;) Some even listen to it in their minecraft music playlist. Call it chillout, smooth, ambient, New Age, instrumental, or background music -- this is not as much about a genre as it is about a feeling. A way of life. With the relaxdaily project, I try to take a little heat from our (generally) too busy lives. I try to deliver a soundtrack for you, when you feel the need for some positive, calming, inspirational tunes. The simple video shows grass waving in the wind at the pacific coast in California, just a few miles south of San Francisco. ► Enjoy another light and calm relaxdaily music mix here on YouTube; https://youtu.be/AzqTd73CCrA (Season 3) ► Find all relaxdaily music ad-free on my website https://relaxdaily.net © 2013-2017, relaxdaily

episode 8 part 1

02:24
This video is just a quick summary of our trip! (a more detailed movie will follow with greater details of the workings of the boat, Captains words etc..but whilst we're here in Hawaii, we intend on enjoying ourselves above deck and we couldn't think of anything worse right now than being down below on a computer!!). The storms and waterspouts, dolphins and fish we encountered, were moments too great (and too dangerous) to run off and grab the camera for...so you get just the overview and our words!! But feel free to msg us with any questions/queries about the trip/Narhval etc! :) In summary: Originally we left Port San Juan (Canada) with a 220 degree, diagonal line drawn from Vancouver island to Hawaii (the Rum Run)...but that soon changed as doldrums pushed us eastward and down the U.S coastline, to almost halfway down the coast of Mexico. With little to no wind most days and strong squalls at 2:30am most nights, we spent the first two weeks with weather, fear and excitement-induced insomnia. Swells reached 12ft at times (these were the funnest days!!), but generally stayed under 6ft. Spirits remained high the entire time...right up until we ran out of grub!! After a few days at sea we managed to understand our self-steering vane, affectionately named 'Charmayne', and set her up to keep us steering south-westerly for the rest of the trip meaning that we didn't touch the tiller for over 3000 miles! As the water turned bluer and the weather warmer, we peeled back our layers of donated and thrift shop attire in preparation of the heat wave to come and by day 11 our first salt water shower was shear bliss!!...(Being in Canada for 5 months and not getting into the ocean for a swim was really starting to take its toll...) As we ventured closer to Hawaii, we began adopting resident birds, flying fish and dolphins! :) Our trip from Vancouver Island to Hilo saw us covering a total of almost 4000 nautical miles, spending 31 days at sea and averaging 5.5 knots (not bad for an old Gaffer, a Geordie and a first-time sailor girl!) First mate was climbing around the boat like a little spider monkey by the end of the trip, hanking sails down during storms, washing dishes on the slippery deck and practising her knots whenever she had a spare moment. Captain has reignited his love of the deep blue and is remembering the freedom of which travelling by sea gives you! Aloha to all of our dear followers, friends and family. It feels really nice knowing you guys were with us each knot of the way

Scariest Bridges in the World

06:31
from the Vine Bridges of Iya Valley to the Eshima Ohashi Bridge, here are the Scariest Bridges in the World. Learn about the BIGGEST of everything Monday, Wednesday, and Friday just subscribe! # 8 Vine Bridges of Iya Valley Japan isn’t just home to big cities like Tokyo and Kyoto; it is also home to mysterious and strange places. One example is the misty West Iya Valley which is full of overgrown trees, flora, and the precarious “vine bridges”. The story of how these bridges came to be are lost to history, but what we do know is that they are made by real-life vines intertwined with planks. The bridge is sturdy but there are nearly one-foot gaps in between the planks, so if you’re a little nervous about walking on a bridge made of plants, you might want to find another way through the valley. # 7 Hussaini Hanging Bridge All you need to do is look at the Hussaini Hanging Bridge to understand why its so scary. It is a barely put together bridge that stretches across Borit Lake in Pakistan. With it’s sparse footing and steel wire it’s easy to see why it’s known by many as the world’s most dangerous bridge. Perhaps even scarier is the bridge right next to it which has collapsed and is treading water. It’s almost a warning that tells people not to use the bridge at all. # 6 Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (pronounced carrick-a-reedy) The Carrick-a-Rede bridge is a famous rope bridge in Northern Ireland that links the mainland Ireland to the tiny island Carrick-a-rede. It is not a very long walk at only 20 meters or 66 feet in length but levitates 98 feet above a bunch of rocks and sea waves. However, you might be nervous to cross this relatively short bridge because it is entirely made of wooden planks and rope knots. # 5 Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge opened in 2016, and it is a truly spine-tingling experience. The bridge is suspended 900 feet high right above the steep valley. This bridge was built so that anyone crossing it can enjoy the nature and breathtaking sights below them. But, you might be a little too nervous to take in the view as you stare down at the nearly 1,000-foot drop. The scariest part might be the fact that one of the glass panes cracked underneath the feet of the pedestrian traffic. Now, the bridge is limited to less than 800 people at a time. # 4 Haohan Qiao Bridge The Zhangjiajie isn’t the only glass bridge in China. There’s another one known as the “Brave Men’s bridge” hanging in the Shiniuzhai National Park. Before 2014, the Brave Men’s Bridge already had a fierce reputation for being a harrowing walk. That’s when the park manager replaced the 300 meter or 980 feet long bridge just to make everything that much scarier. # 3 Ai-Petri Bridges In Crimea, there are these bridges that swing with the high winds of the Crimean mountains. The Ai-Petri bridge requires someone to have a gut of steel to get through. These peaks regularly experience gusts of up to 100 miles per hours many days of the year. If you can manage to cross these bridges, you will earn a beautiful view of the surrounding cities and the Black Sea. # 2 Aiguille Du Midi Bridge You can take a cable car all the way to the top of the Mount Blanc Massif mountain range in France and enjoy a view of the clouds. This bridge between two peaks is very short, but because you have to take a cable car up a mountain, it’s also very high. You will have to conquer any fear of heights as this short foot bridge is 9,200 feet high. # 1 Eshima Ohashi Bridge This list has some truly terrifying bridges, but this one might be the scariest to drive on. The Eshima Ohashi bridge connects the cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato in Japan, although it looks more like a rollercoaster than a freeway. It is known for having pretty much the steepest gradient of any bridge, and it’s so steep photos taken of it head on make cars look like they’re driving straight. Just remember to drive safely and keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times if you ever have to cross this bridge.
