I have an awful time with impulse buying excessive amounts of groceries because my hometown is getting actual vegan options in grocery stores, so I get a little too excited haha. I do end up eating it all before it goes bad, so maybe it's not an awful way to impulse shop.

I like how you emphasized, it is not a bad thing to want to have a piece of clothing for a long time. I think we often feel obligated or pressured to keep changing it up, especially every year.

Great ideas! Gonna use it with my ESL class! I no longer purchase kitchen or bathroom cleansers, paper towels, makeup, fabric softeners, etc.

Something I just thought about...What if everyone started buying ethical & ecological fashion and making their own clothes? Wouldn't that be impossible too?
Conyshi EG (10 months ago)
Very good! I’ve stopped buying things I like but I do not need. I stoped being a consumerist for many different reasons and it feels great!

#4 really applied to me. I'm a homemaker while my youngest isn't in school yet and I would buy the latest cleaning tool that required constantly buying disposable cleaning products to use for it that were either filled with dangerous chemicals or just expensive. Ive started making my own cleaning products and using tools that can be washed and reused. I know this channel is focused more on the fashion side of things but I find your advise to be so universal.

You are so so right. Everything you said I already do for a long time.

Very good video! I really like to shop online so i make myself a wishlist and save the links of the items. Then i wait for the sale or just some time and often i realize i don´t really want the most of the items ;)

Ive drastically cut down spending on fast food and restaurant food and cook for myself. I stopped purchasing drinks at restaurants/cafes almost altogether - water for the win!

Have you heard about the "cradle 2 Cradle" concept? you should check it out, I think it would interest you!

I love your videos and can't wait to start my own capsule wardrobe. I first want to start with clothes I already have and then gradually add more pieces that I feel are missing. But my question is, once you've been doing the capsule-wardrobe thing for several years, how often do you still by new clothes? An average of how many pieces do you add per year?

Your face is just shinning with happiness, it's amazing :)

This video is shot as a vanity project and the smiling doesn't seem genuine. This is plausibly deniable narcisism. Very common among young female YouTubers who are puffed up by morons who pedastalize them. "Oh my God your eyes are so gorgeous and your skin is angelic!!!". Stop loving yourself excessively. It shows.
My Green Closet (1 year ago)
If you read the description I explained that this video ended up like this because it was a new lens I didn't know how to use. This video actually makes me uncomfortable but I didn't have time to re-shoot it.

Impulse shopping is out of the window. I only shop when I feel a shift in my lifestyle and if there is an upcoming event, could be a lunch, or PTA, even then I purchase something that be worn in a versatile way. I pay attention to fabric. Especially since it is really warm where we live and prefer skin-friendly fabrics.

I no longer buy things I don't know where to put and this means if I buy something then something else must go. It's amazing how much this has stopped me from buying on impulse or buying something just because :) I've also found that regularly going through closets, cupboards and drawers (monthly) to determine what I can donate to a thrift store to help someone else out has also prevented me from buying things I don't need. The whole process reminds me often of how much abundance we have in the west that we must be vigilant with clutter when there are those in the world who have so little they simply don't have enough. It's rather like how many people in the west speak of going on a reducing diet when there are those in the world who have no idea how they are going to get enough calories into their bodies to stay alive :)

Hi, you make me feel like I found a kindred spirit though I never considered myself as minimalist and I got a whole lotta stuff still. However I still wear my clothes from my college days which was over 20 years ago. They still fit me just fine and not discolored. In fact when I lost 20+ kg after my cancer surgery, I puller out those old clothes I couldn't wear coz I gained so much weight after childbirths. I could now fit into them again w/ ease and I gave away or throw out my 'fat' clothes. I wear my shoes till they're worn out and my friends laughed at me for being cheap. I don't think that I was being cheap. I'm just too lazy to maintain so many shoes that pinch my feet just to look good. Anyway thanks for the videos. I recently found your channel and found it comforting to know that I'm not being the cheapskate my friends think to be.
I don't buy much toiletry I'm using what I have and I occasionally I stuck up on some nesesities such of shampoo or body wash if I find cheap or running out of something I replace but I get like 2 pieces then I wait until I run of it to stuck on the item again, I also don't buy perfumes I have some on my wish list but I have some for a list 2 years right now so I'm not getting new ones anyways I'm always getting them on special occasions that's the reason I have many to start with😊

What I like to do is when a new trend comes up that I know I'll only wear for one season I figure out how to temporarily rework a piece of clothing I already have into that. When colorblocking was big I seam ripped and resewed sleeves from two differently colored shirts onto each other, and then when I was tired of that it was easy to put it back how it started again. Sequins can be sewn on and then removed (it's easy to wiggle the fabric so that the little holes where they were sewn in disappear), lace can be sewn over a hemline in a different color of thread and later removed, normal sleeves temporarily replaced with easy sewn on mesh sleeves, shirt pocket replaced with a contrast fabric, etc. Just learn basic sewing skills and it's easy to adapt any of your clothes to fit the latest season's style.

When I have to buy clothes or accessories, I buy from online thrift stores, swap or thredUp, they have excellent descriptions, good customer support and it keeps me out of stores.

This lens, lighting, and even your closeness to the camera all work very well.
Magnus Fox (1 year ago)
How do you smile with your eyes like that. I couldn't pay attention halfway through, too beautiful
Katie Thomas (1 year ago)
I have to make an outfit from it, or use it to replace something thats not in good quality anymore in order to get it from a store now, which really cut down on my shopping.

I have to say that I love your voice. It's so calm and beautiful! And I completely agree with the video.
Flairelle (1 year ago)
If I already have shampoo, cream, face cream, foundation I do not buy a second one to try out because I usually buy my regular anyway. Sticking to what works. If something does not work. I give or toss then buy a new one. Special occasions I do not buy something new. I mix and match pieces or even with the jewelry to spice it up. When there are sales like right now. I stick to online shopping and buy needs over wants

Just when I was dealing with switching to cruelty free beauty and more conscious consuming I found your channel! Haha just in time! =) You seem like such a lovely and responsible girl <3 I know nobody is perfect but the least that we can all do is thrive to be better and act honestly and kindly to our planet and all living creatures! (I'm not a vegan btw I just try to do something which is always better than nothing!!)

I no longer buy shampoo bottles. I've found natural bar soap style shampoos that are made in my local area. I've also stopped buying razors and wax instead. You can even get cold wax that washes off the strips with hot water and soap so you can reuse them. Oh and laundry soap- I stopped buying that too and instead use bali soap nuts with a few drops of essential oils to do our laundry.

I've stopped shaving in winter haha. Before I would just shave less in winter, like once a month, but I've realised I don't really have a reason to shave anything at all, so I just trim what I need. Blessed.

It is interesting that in middle class but in lower income countries we had always done this, whitout even propose to do so. We don't even feel that we are doing someting special, is just the way we do it, and I just realized with your video. Anyway, it is important to do this kind of videos because in some countries the consumism is just out of control.

So true about special event shopping-- I bought two secondhand dresses last year that I have worn constantly, just popping a blouse, sweater or shirt over them to change them up for different events-- and people always think it's a new skirt under that shirt!
Zed Flower (2 years ago)
I no longer buy boots every season. In South Africa you can get really affordable boots made of synthetic materials meant to last only one season. I bought a leather pair costing about 4X as much, but will wear them for years to come

I remember when i forgot to bring shampoo but the hotel room had a bar of soap so i used that. Apparently soap and shampoo does the exact same thing. Who would have thought! It will probably be a bad idea if youre a woman (no hate) but for men this is a huge money saver!

I think the length of your hair is the big difference, as someone who used to have long hair, I only wash my short hair with shampoo one a week
imapineapple15 (2 years ago)
Girl, I resonated with this so much! Lately I've been buying a few dresses from the thrift shop ($7-20 at the very most) and wearing them once or twice for a party, then donating them back or selling them locally on Facebook groups. Much better than buying new.

You have such a calming voice, which is perfect for the video.
Toria Rose (2 years ago)
Ha, I never did any of those, even before I became a eco minimalist :-) Thrift and outlet stores, did it before it was the thing to do (ya' know, when ppl were kind of ashamed to do such a thing, lol .. I never understood that, just seemed smart to me, even before others realized it). I just recently came upon your channel, so wasn't sure how "eco" you really are. Was hoping your list was going to be things like... Toothpaste/toothbrush (see myswak), deodorant, bar (or any mainstream) soap, OTCs, hair brush, razor, lol... Etc. Most of us have a ways to go :-) Btw, you can be very clean, attractive and much healthier without all that.
Sooner Or Later (2 years ago)
omg your skin is so beautiful, do you have a routine of face treatment? Also, how is your diet?
K Lu (2 years ago)
There is something ironic about a self-proclaimed minimalist making a video about things they don't buy.
HHH i really liked this video. I just wanted to point up that this is the way that many latin american girls live.. Make the life simple and live sustainably. Greetings from Paraguay !

One thing I no longer buy is tampons and pads, because I now have a menstrual cup. If you have never heard of that, definitely look it up. I am not kidding if I say this is the best thing I have ever bought.

Pituzer definitely one of the Best purchases I've ever done! It was hard to figure it out at the beginning, but is awesome!

You're voice is so calm that it actually made me feel nervous, I don't now why! I'm already following this guidelines, but this video just appeared on my recommendations and I had to see it XD What I've stopped buying completely is high-heeled shoes, I absolutely hate them, I never wear the ones I've bought

I don't like Zara. They once had dresses that used thick rag textile. Eww. A rag dress. Lol
imapineapple15 (1 year ago)
+julijakeit plenty of nice Zara at the thrift store. I always find it there.. So you don't have to give up completely :)

I do the same thing when it comes to buying clothes! My Pinterest wish list helps me stay on track and I'm constantly refining it/deleting the items I no longer want (:
imapineapple15 (2 years ago)
OUTSIDE OF STORIES I was just thinking about how I do the exact same thing! If I see it on for a really good sale and I still don't buy it, it's because I never actually wanted it
Akinom8002 (2 years ago)
You are so beautiful! :-) I usually don't write this kind of comments but your beauty seems to me so natural - you don't wear tonnes of make-up. I just really like it and want to tell you. ;-)
