Highlighting Excel cells while entering data

64 ratings | 14232 views
You can easily highlight MS Excel worksheet cells while entering data using Excel VBA. For many people this can be a useful tool to avoid incorrect entries. For color codes you can view this website: http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/excel/colors.htm For many more interesting videos you can visit: http://www.familycomputerclub.com For some more details on this specific video please visit: http://www.familycomputerclub.com/highlight-excel-cells.html If you wish you can subscribe to my channel and be notified whenever a new video is uploaded.

You have to save the file as a macro-enabled file with the extension ".xlsm" .

is there any way to make the active (selected) cell transparent (clear of any color). I have a dark image for the background and i wanna keep seeing that image even when i have a cell selected.

Sir, the code you have made is amazing! But only one problem with the worksheet here that If I have have colored some cells in the worksheets.....so all the cells become white after using this code......so the cells I have colored should be kept as it is. So please modify this code in that way so that it will be helpful for all.........thanks sir

I agree with PRITI. I like how the active cell gives me the ability to track the current cell I am in, but I can not fill other cells with a different color. The color is removed the moment I click out of the cell. I followed your instructions to the "T" on a new worksheet and still had the same result.

Sir, actually I do not know much about vba code.....only I use the code you made.....So please have the code as I mentioned earlier.....please sir

What have you tried? Change the code so that only the cell in which you are working changes the color. If you don't find the solution let me know. Tip: The cell in which you're working is called 'ActiveCell'.

Dadisetty has a good point. I see the relevance of highlighting an otherwise non color sheet per the original request. But that extra bit that Dadisetty is looking for becomes relevant when fill colors are used to make the sheet easier to read or for reports. Perhaps formatting could be done when a report is printed but the fill can be an added plus when viewed on screen.

other cell colors are vanished when we are using this macro
Dadisetty laxmi govind (2 years ago)
sir please create a macro,so we can use other format colors also
Dinesh Kumar Takyar (2 years ago)
+Dadisetty laxmi govind The user just wants to highlight the cell in which he is entering data - most probably to make the data entry easier due to visual disability.  http://www.exceltrainingvideos.com/highlight-excel-cells-while-entering-data/

Thanks for the video, I'm wondering if you can highlight the active cell using conditional formatting?
Dinesh Kumar Takyar (3 years ago)

9mmbindsniper (5 years ago)
Just what I was looking for -HOWEVER When I *protect the sheet I get an ERROR and the following line of code is highlighted. (sheet protected, Data entry fields unprotected) "ActiveSheet.Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone" Thank you for any help.
