Thanks for this! I have had back issues and knee issues for ages, and often feel stiff in my joints. working on a hard floor makes everything terribly uncomfortable, but using a ball like this will make a massive difference to me and make things more fun. Question: have you ever tried doing plyometric exercises in the water? I have been doing them for some time - and boy do they work!!! Try this for super strong abs/core musculature: buy a inflated beachball, one that is around 12 inches across, or a bit less. Stand in a part of the pool where no-one is swimming, but where there is movement in the water - this is what is going to make your core work very hard as it will have to keep you stable despite the water around you that will be throwing you off and challenging your balance. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and hold the ball in both hands, just in front of your diaphragm. Hold the ball with your hands ontop of it, and make sure that all your fingers and thumbs are in a nice W-shape. Fingers and thumb tips should all be pointing away from you. Now ease the ball, extremely slowly, down into the water, and push it down as far as you can towards your pelvis/knees, keeping your body upright, and your stomach and leg muscles tight. The ball must be lowered with perfect form, the slower the better, and it should not wobble - ever. Hold it for a few seconds and then, bring it VERY SLOWLY back up again, and relax for a second afterwards. In all this you must seek to control the ball. Do three sets of ten. Then move onto this: Drop into a seated position in the water, with your legs and feet in front of you, knees slightly bent (as if you were sitting in a car seat with your feet resting on the pedals). Now, using your arms to do a breast-stroke style movements, do 2 full lengths of the pool., moving up the pool feet first as hard and fast as you can, without touching the bottom or stopping. Focus on staying level, and on making the movement rhythmic and smooth. try to stay level and reasonably upright. With these exercises form is everything. If 2 lengths aren't enough, do 4. You can also do elastic band exercises in water - tie it to the bottom or top of the steps into the water and go. I do 50-mins of these exercises, including stretches, arms, fitness sprints etc. When I get out, it is like I have been run over by a truck - that is how hard my whole body has worked, but the great thing is that you don't notice it while you are doing it. Best of all, if you fall, the water will catch you. Injuries are practically impossible when doing this kind of workout. Highly recommended for people with back issues, knee or joint issues, mobility issues, and for anyone who is obese. In the water you will feel as light as a feather and your heart will not be carrying your body weight, the water will be doing that, so it does not and cannot strain your heart.
