Every welder needs these! Beginner welding projects

11995 ratings | 1556092 views
Found some scrap pieces of metal and figured I need to make me the 3rd hand to hold 2 pieces quick while tac welding them together. The second one is a Mig torch holder where I can hang the torch while not in use. I just recently bought a MIG welder and since I haven't any experience with welding I need to practice on things that are easy to make but also useful in the future. Big thanks to all my patrons especially Sithis Michaelis! Good video. Thanks for sharing!
Cool! Well done! I want to do the same for welding cars. To the car in a repair place it is hooked and it is convenient very much. And on what effort is the magnet?
Ed Pontiff (2 months ago)
Made one from an old drill chuck but used a bolt that screwed into the back and welded back legs onto it , the front jaws can hold all types of shaped holding rods and is fully adjustable , works great !
Raun Smith (2 months ago)
Or just tack a piece of pipe under your table that's big enough your nozzle can fit in the inside. Boom, you've got a holder made in 2 minutes, instead of 20
Ollari's (2 months ago)
That works if you got a permanent workstation.

Sorry I'm late to the game here, but I just came across your video today. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed watching it tremendously. From the music to the comedic way you had to rework the hole you drilled in the base of the MIG stinger holder for the magnet. Well done. I look forward to going through and watching the rest of your stuff on here. Cheers.

A couple pieces of pipe a bit bigger then the cone welded to your table, and a magnet
Ollari's (3 months ago)
That would make for a crappy video though. ;)

Does this apply to tig welding? lol
Ollari's (3 months ago)
Of course! Even to plastic welding!
Thunkworks Matt (3 months ago)
Love both these ideas. I'm always struggling to find a place to rest my mig torch. And the third hand would be so useful.
Ollari's (3 months ago)
Thanks Matt!

Yes the old mig gun fall off the bench routine, now I'll make me a gun holder, maybe a little different so's not to infringe on any copyrights laws. Think that small part holder be better if had a small V notch on the end. Nice video.

good idea on the 3rd hand; would work even better if it had some teeth... use a saran wrap cutter as a template...
RetroEvoDesign (4 months ago)
For the mig holder I always just welded a piece of pipe or tube stock to the side of the table and stuck the tip in there and they double as points to clamp your ground to also... or just throw it on the table where it of course triggers itself off the corner or whatever piece of stock I threw it on. I like the use of the drill chuck to add weight to the third hand.
Ollari's (4 months ago)
Yes it would in deed! LOL
RetroEvoDesign (4 months ago)
Would of made for a pretty boring video though... cut tube, weld to side of table, end of video, lol.
Ollari's (4 months ago)
Yeah that could work too!

oo0Spyder0oo (5 months ago)
3nd holder is a good one but the first could easily be achieved using a welding magnet, they make holding iron at 90deg a snap.
Ollari's (5 months ago)
Yes, i have some welding magnets too, but for more intricate work or small workpiece I like to use the 3rd hand.
screwbushcomegetme (5 months ago)
if you want to waste $20 ruining that chuck seems pretty good.
Ollari's (5 months ago)
Hahhaha! Yeah, Sure! I keep a $20 chuck that's perfectly good in my scrap metal box. .

Be careful while welding stuff that has direct contact to magnets. Above the currie temperature, magnets lose their magneticity.
Shawn Easley (6 months ago)
Curious not bashing but why grinding the drill chuck? I learn everyday I work at a fab shop
Ollari's (6 months ago)
At first, i wanted to weld the 90° on the front of the chuck, but then it came to my mind just to "chuck the piece in.

Dude! I've shown your video to several people and they all ask "He knows so much but won't provide educational narration?" Also, substituting elevator music for such knowledge as you have isn't even fair to you. Best of luck but you might ponder a different format.
Ollari's (7 months ago)
Sorry Joseph. I don't speak English very well. So a narrative in my language won't help you much.
